“I started my art training in grade schoolboy attending classes at the Toledo Museum of Fine Art. Art was my high school and college (Bowling Green State University, Ohio State University, and Columbus College of Arts & Design).
For employment, amongst a variety of positions, I finished as an Architectural Lighting Designer. After retirement, I resumed oil painting in a realistic style with a floral motif as my primary subject on a single stretched canvas.
In 2008, I started combining multiple canvases of different thicknesses, removing the canvas, re-cutting and re-stretching the canvases to form shapes other than square or rectangular. Before painting, I would assemble and permanently secure all the pieces to form one stretched canvas with different thicknesses and shapes, sometimes tapered, sometimes rounded, some freeform, some with openings, etc.
One of my latest paintings is in an “L” shape. That is meant to go around a wall corner. My next transition was to go from realism to cubism/ whimsical, but with a twist, the cubism/whimsical would include some realism, and I sometimes added just a tiny amount of glitter for a touch of sparkle when the light hits it. So, for example, my dancer series employs glitter instead of sequins on parts of the dress and gowns.
“Unfortunately, now, after 32 years of having Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis, I have developed tremors in my arms that are not allowing me to continue to paint anymore. Therefore, all of my paintings that are on my website will be for sale at 50% off, with half of the proceeds going to homeless charities. I have enjoyed art and painting all of these years, but I hope that my paintings will sell, then my website will be terminated. Thank you.”
