Celebrating artists & makers across the Lewes District for 30 years!
A warm welcome to the 2023 Artwave guide, with details of exhibitions taking place across the Lewes District (and beyond) from 2nd - 17th September. We are delighted to be celebrating our 30th anniversary year with our biggest festival yet.
When Artwave started in 1993 with a founding mission ‘to make the arts accessible to all’, the festival featured 70 artists across 18 events in and around Lewes. This year you can discover work by more than 1000 creatives, and visit upwards of 180 venues, with free-to-visit exhibitions in private homes, studios, potteries, windmills, railway stations, farms and churches, from Ditchling to Herstmonceux, Newhaven to Danehill. We’d call that mission accomplished - and still going strong!
So join us in championing artists and makers, shopping local and supporting our brilliant artistic community.
Thank you to all our generous sponsors, supporters and all the creatives who take part. Without you Artwave would not be possible.

20th – 24th September 2023
Walk the Chalk is a celebration of the newly-renamed King Charles III England Coast Path which, when complete, will be the longest coastal trail in the UK.
In late September 2023, this five-day event centred on South Hill Barn, Cuckmere Haven and the Seven Sisters, will discover local heritage, chalk, fossils, flora, fauna, history and folklore through art and creativity. But most of all, Walk the Chalk will celebrate the joys of being in nature and our iconic coastal landscape.
