Do.it is a product of Save the Material By ModoComunicazione Shown below a brief presentation of our company: Save the Material is a fresh reality specialized in projecting design items and in the supply of services such as laser cutting, rapid prototyping and 3D scan for students, designers, architects and enthusiasts. Our company aims at building a new and eco-sustainable approach as far as service is concerned: we are able, in fact, of suppling our services both working with new materials and with production scraps from other production chains. Our aim is connecting the creative community with a portion from the world of production that often remains in hiding: production scraps. Factories, craftsmen, waste disposal plants, abandoned warehouses containing semifinished products deserted because out of production. We like to think that through the support of our artists, designers, craftsmen, stylist and students we will be able to realize “sustainable” design projects giving a second life to disused materials and objects thanks to the support of new technologies, as well. We stably collaborate with major Design and Architecture studies and with most of Rome’s institutes. We are partners with “Quasar Design University” and the high fashion academy “Koefia”. Collaborating with the latter we “tested” the potential of laser cut and of 3D printing in the fashion field, producing the dresses of Marco Taranto’s collection that participated and won the talent-show “Project Runaway” broadcasted on Fox Life during Spring 2014. On May 2014 we organized the workshop “TRANSLATE”- Structural design in material fabrication”, in collaboration with “Sapienza University” of Rome and with “Noumena Architecture” studies in Rome and “Nous Engineering” in Amsterdam. Concept:
Consistent with our modus operandi we thought about a 3D printer being as eco-sustainable as
possible, starting from a body made of environmentally-friendly materials such as aluminium and foreseeing different versions made of recyclable materials like MDF with FSC certification (http://it.fsc. org/ ) or plastic materials from wastage of previous productions. In spite of all this, the performances of our printer would be clearly superior to those already in the market, unique for a FDM printer. Working with this technology we were able to appreciate the potential but also the limits: from these limits we started to get a more reliable printer. The most important innovation is the inclusion of sensors at the entrance of the extruder. If for any reason (es.finished reel) filament extrusion stops, build automatically goes into the break with a chance to restart it once you’ve solved the problem, with a great saving of time and material. Mechanic properties: • • • • • • •
double extruder: core x/y axes; 4,2 inches micro-disks colour touch screen display; Linux operating system for further expansibility; Audio / Video connection; inner slots for filaments; compact dimensions and line aimed at minimizing encumbrance.
