Connellsville Canteen Educational Field Trips $ 40.00 - 1 ½ hours up to 50 people The Connellsville Canteen is a historical interpretative center concentrating on the Laurel Highlands during WWII. It focuses on what made this area great, from the Canteen Ladies who fed over 600,000 troops on their way to war, and those who were deployed overseas from the area and how their contributions contributed greatly to the war effort. On display there are a wide range of mementoes including Bronze Stars, Purple Hearts, and burial flags – to include a very rare gold star burial flag. We have many one of a kind items on display to include a main propulsion control panel plaque from the USS Snapper submarine and a German flag that was found in the ruins of Hitler’s bombed out house at Berchtesgaden. The Connellsville Canteen also hosts rotating exhibitions dealing with conflicts and wars with displayed historical items from around the world. Exhibits include leaflets & propaganda dropped on troops during war time, the Holocaust & Anti-Semitism, the 1936 Berlin Olympics and Korea, a divided land, which includes original artifacts from North Korea.
