Underlying a painting’s physical presence is pure energy as it coalesces into form. A relationship with that energy guides what emerges when a painting becomes whole. My works hold intuitive environments. Color and line on canvas can prompt recognition of certain qualities of nature or states of being, expressed as elements of force and equilibrium. There is an interaction between light and human experiences, from simple emotional responses to deep visions of consciousness. A painting exists through light and a fusion arises when their energies align. In sound, the phenomenon of sympathetic vibrations is an example of shared resonance. This parallels a painting’s tonal energies resonating in us. Light is in constant flux. The power of a painting is its capacity to allow us to enter the stillness within that motion – to enter the cohesive unity of the present moment. WILLIAM SONG

LAKE MANASAROVAR and MOUNT KAILASH are located in a remote area of the Himalayas in Tibet. They hold a sacred significance to various spiritual traditions, signifying peace, awareness, and the interaction of energy principles that form this creation. The mountain and lake are a sanctuary, symbolizing spiritual purity and matter infused with spirit. The high altitude air, the fiery intensity of the sun and the icy waters of the lake all ring with high vibrative frequencies that support inner sight into consciousness beyond the physical senses. The yantra (sacred symbol) of Shiva consciousness in the Vedic tradition associated with the mountain and lake is comprised of three horizontal lines representing “me, mine and not mine. The lines symbolize a state of being where these three mental constructs - that reflect maya and ego, and keep human beings isolated from each other and nature - are no longer active. These paintings integrate the yantra with the elemental creation energies of fire, water, earth, air and space. A primordial equilibrium arises from their union. WILLIAM SONG
