R E T R A C T I O N DOUBLE NEGATIVE

RETRACTION The double negative project focus on creating a third condition as the result of intersecting two negative/void spaces. The retraction concept emphasizes on the condition of being retracted/pulled back/ pulled backward. Thus, this project focuses on the condition of being pulled backward or in other words, simplification.

The first and the second void create an intersections in the center of the bounding box. It creates the third condition which is the simplified form of two voids. The complex pattern on the entrance wall is being retracted to the simpler form in the center of the box.

RYTYHM + RETRACTION

As the coninuation of double negative, the stairs project emphazise the concept of retraction, combined with the following concept of sequential ryhtm and movement. Through the method of triagulation, this project creates two systems which envelope the whole project. First, the simple pathway which leads from the parking lot all the way to fourth floor. The second system is the skin that embody the pathway based on the rythm and retraction concept.

ITERATION DEVELOPMENT

The focus of each iterations is to figure out the midpoint of skin system and the enveloped pathway. This includes figuring out the relationship between the skins in different part of the project with the squential programs provided. Some skins will transformed to provide structural support, while the others gradually open up to let the lights in.

SOLID + VOID This project mainly focus on the relatioship of solid and void to define the spatial program within a building, which in this case lies upon a library. The concept of this library lies upon the manipulation of cores system (vertical + horizontal). The vertical core happens to be the elevator; while the horizontal cores are sets of book stacks. The combinations of these two cores create a solid and void condtions in the form of extruded triangular loop.

ITERATION DEVELOPMENT The progress in each iterations is mainly focus on the overall gesture of solid void in the project. The first interation at least, develops the solid void condition through substraction technique. The second ,third, and the final iteration are combinations of cores concept and the overal gesture of solid void conditions in this library project

The main triangular void as it is shown, works as the main void which brings down light from the roof all the way to the ground floor. The main goal of this library is to bring down as much as natural ligh as possible by manipulating the solid and void relationship between each spaces

THE MARIACHI CENTER Spring 2014 Inst. Orhan Ayyuce east los angeles community college

DESCRIPTION

Mariachi Center is the public center for the Mariachi

Program

communities in East Los Angeles area. The project itself was designed to accomadate the mariachi population in the surrounding area of Mariachi Plaza with a

Circulation

beneficial public center. The concept is derived from the characteristic of Mariachis group (Mexican music group) which often time associated with nomadic, yet interconnected as musicians. These characteristics are often time being carried to their dynamic perfor-

Interconnectivity Pattern

mance whihc never being limited or even bounded by stages. The concept of nomadic, dynamic, and interconnected bring up a design which provides the mariachis a space to be able to freely move around and perform whenever they want, just like they love to do. Atlhough the modern design would bring up a lot

of social issues such as: gentrification, etc. It is believed that this project still could serve its main purpose to accomadate a performing public space for the mariachis and the surrounding societies.

OBJECTIVE

To design appropriate and beneficial community center in the Mariachi Plaza area. There will be a special program which is included to enhance the relationship between the Mariachis and the architectural culture.

Floating Cities’ Promenade

DESCRIPTION

La Ballena embaded the body of the Floating city in purpose to create a full-experience rtyhmic spaces which connected every major programs in Floating City. Moreover, the main objective of the promanade itself is to create an interconnection relationship within every passanger inside the ship. The promanade is designed and articulated according to the program embanded within it. Major program are including stores, main plaza, factory entrance, rest area, restaurants, and peer view. The programs were carefully selected to maintain the independent lives of the Floating Citiy which will sail while producing and manufacturing its own supplies and product. This unique urban spaces promade is influenced by the organic design and life.
