" I try to see things fresh by ranging broadly, then gradually zeroing in, often drawn to a detail without knowing yet what the whole is, then coming to understand the whole through many significant details. Photographs prompt and push my thinking: I let them speak, work on my feelings and mind, and sort them as images first, seeking connections." Anne Whiston Spirn, Language of Landscape, 1998

CONCEPT SKETCH From Airport to New Vertical Aircraft Industrial Park
01 VERTICAL RUNWAY HORIZONTAL PARK ABANDONED AIRPORT REVEGETATION Guangzhou,Guangdong, China Academic / Group Work My Position: responsible for the site research, concept revegetation, spatial anaylsis and perspective drawings. Sep. 2017 / 2017-2018 First Semester Instructor & E-mail address: Xi Yang / yangxi@sz.jnu.edu.cn 150 ha The site is an abandoned military airport which located in cencun airport, guangzhou. At the center of the space is a runway taxiway and aprons.Surrounding the airport runway is a large area of farmland. The economy, environment and citizen living of the whole site is severely restricted by the existence of the airport. With the decommissioned of the airport, how to reorganize this vast horizontal ground become an issue. Therefore,by introducing a kind of future vehicles' vertical takeoff and landing manned aircraft' production which could utilize crop straw to manufacture new aircraft, the site economy problem could be solved. At the same time through a series of citizen engagement, i set up activities to create a platform for public to cognize and experience the new means of transport.Through studying of the pattern of the airport, i apply the circulation of airport in my design in order to conserve the trace of the site and also offer different experiences through wandering on the original runway.

Abandoned Airports in the Pearl River Delta After the reform and opening up, airports in the Pearl River Delta region has been forced to remove because of the urbanization sprawl, which result in a dilemma between some airports and urban life. How should the huge grey infrastructures left behind by abandoned airports reconnect with urban life?

3
Grasping the opportunity of global development and combining with the actual situation of the site, we put forward our concept. Hoping that the implantation of new industries can revitalize the economic of surrounding, provide employment opportunities for people, and the public can participate in the production of eVTOL as recreation, which promote the development of new vehicles at the same time. The abandoned airport will be able to extend its history with neoteric identity and functionality.

CONCEPT SKETCH Three Elements for Children to Re-imagine a Fun Game Scene
02 DISCOVERY LAND COMMUNITY PARK Shenzhen,Guangdong, China Academic /Individual Work Feb. 2018 / 2017-2018 Second Semester Instructor & E-mail address: Shi Chen / schen05@risd.edu 3 ha The site is an unused land located in a residential area in Bao'an District, Shenzhen. Near the site is an urban slum, a gated residential community and two kindergartens, which means there are many families living nearby. But the site is not suitable for activities because of the low accessibility , large height difference, and a high-voltage pylons in the site. Therefore, even when the children are in the kindergartens, the limited play space and programs have blocked the utilization of the site. Through my observation of children playing in this community, I noticed that the children tend to re-imagine their playing space into an interesting game scene through three methods. One is to create terrain, the other is to find different pavement, and the third is to rely on the natural environment. The pleasure gained through these three methods will be more attractive than just using the fixed recreational facilities that already provided. In that case, by utilizing the height difference of the site to form rich terrain and combining with the drawable pavement and planting, I hope the site can be activated by children and they can have a conversation with the park through their imagination.

Observation: Three Elements for Children to Re-imagine a Fun Game Scene Children can re-imagine the existing space into an interesting game scene by three ways----Creating Terrain, Finding different Pavement and Using elements of Natural environment. They can have fun in their fantasy story scenes. But there are security issues when children are playing these games in urban slums.

Children in the urban slums use cartons, railings to create steps and slopes. During this process, they can reimagine an adventure on the reefs and islands of the sea.
The child's game called What's the time? Mr.Wolf use different pavement to divide the safe and dangerous area. Changes in the pavement will bring many possibilities to the child's game
Children like to find some elements of nature to have fun. For example, when they climb trees and observe insects, they imagine themselves explore the forest with insects and other animals.

CONCEPT SKETCH A Flexible exhibition park which can be fully utilized at different time.
03 FLEXIBLE EXHIBITION PARK ABANDONED PORT REVEGETATION Minhang, Shanghai, China Acadamic /Individual Work Nov. 2018 / 2018-2019 First Semester Instructor & E-mail address: Hao Hu / 541614840@qq.com 45 ha
The site used to be the largest timber import and export port in Shanghai. Due to the transformation and development of the surrounding industries, the timber factories around the port relocated one after another. How should the port be reutilized as a subsidiary eliminators of industrial transformation? Seeing the rapid development of new industries and the potential demands around the abandoned port, the project comes up with the concept of an “Flexible Exhibition Park to provide space and programs for the daily activities of the entire regional people. Synchronously the project provide commercial display space and large-scale commercial activities to meet the needs of the new industries. The Exhibition activities help to promote the interexchanges in the region and attract city visitors and more companies to activate the whole area.

Because of the long-term accumulation of waste soil left by construction excavation in Shenzhen University City, floating soil accumulates in the mountain and plants are difficult to grow. The concept of this project removes floating soil and designs an eco-friendly mountain park according to the needs of College students.
The project planed and designed the villages. We took actions to determine the future orientation of the villages and solve the existing problems as well.
