ASAP is grateful for his leadership and the emphasis he gives on praying for and with the people in his district in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

“While we are to labor earnestly for the salvation of the lost, we must also take time for meditation, for prayer, and for the study of the Word of God. Only the work accomplished with much prayer, and sanctified by the merit of Christ, will in the end prove to have been efficient for good.” (Desire of Ages, p.362) Praise the Lord with me for the growth and advancement of His work in Southeast Asia during the past fourteen years of ASAP’S existence! I truly believe that there is a direct correlation between the success in mission work and the prayers on the home front. To each of you who are united together with us in prayer, I send my heart-felt thanks. ASAP supports many projects that all lead to one purpose—sharing Jesus’ gift of eternal life with Southeast Asians. Though we have a targeted mission and work hard to fulfill the giant vision God gives us, I have learned that the true secret to advancement is to “Always Say A Prayer.” Surely, as the quote above from Ellen G. White says, “Only the work accomplished with much prayer, and sanctified by the merit of Christ, will in the end prove to have been efficient for good.” As you read this prayer focused issue, it is my heart’s desire that you will be inspired to make prayer an even greater priority in 2010. At this time so close to the return of Jesus Christ, join the growing group of intercessors and pray for the salvation of millions in darkness in Southeast Asia and around the world. Scott Griswold’s article on page 22 will give you a new focus for your prayers. The ASAP missionaries featured in this issue are true prayer warriors who beseech God’s throne of grace for mercy, guidance, protection, and for their every need. You will be blessed as you read how God answered lay pastor Lieu Cong Son’s desperate prayer on a lonely dark night, page 4. As I joined in prayer with this lay pastor and others during the past training, I felt the Holy Spirit come down and fill the room in an almost tangible way. For those who suffer persecution and hardship, their prayers mixed with tears flowing out of them like a rushing stream. They prayed for endurance and strength to preach the gospel amidst the trials they faced. I will never forget the prayer of the lay-pastor whose wife left him with their daughter after he became an Adventist lay-pastor. He humbly asked God to keep him faithful in serving him for the rest of his life. It will be an even more amazing, glorious time to no longer need prayer in heaven, but to get to speak with our Lord and Savior face to face, won’t it? But in the meantime, I praise God for giving us the awesome privilege of intimately communing with Him. The ASAP pastors, church planters, literacy teachers, and workers in Southeast Asia join me in soliciting your prayers. “Finally, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you,” (2 Thessalonians 3:1 NIV).

answers to prayer in vietnam Within the past two years, I thank God for the results of fasting and praying in unity. God helped us to organize more outreach efforts than ever before to preach the gospel to people who have never known the Lord. Each time before we go out to witness, we gather together in different locations to fast and pray. I believe that the Lord worked on the hearts of the people who received the DVDs and materials in answer to prayer. Many started coming to church. Every day we would have some new people coming to ask for more materials or ask to study with us. Out of gratitude to God for hearing their prayers for interested souls, the workers and members gave more offering and tithes than ever before. Even the visitors gave generously. I witnessed how motivating this entire experience was for everyone involved.

5 I have served the Lord as district leader in more than one area of Vietnam and had the opportunity to witness to the very poor and the educated and wealthy. I observe that our brothers and sisters remain steadfast in faith and committed to spreading the message and leading out in Bible studies and prayer even in the areas where they continue to receive persecution and hindrance from the police, neighbors, and family members. They share their faith in God with the community and live simply and with much joy, trusting Him in every difficult situation. I observed, even though they sometimes do not have enough to eat and do not have clean water, they just pray about it. A year and a half ago, Pastor Isah Young asked me to go to a province 320 km away to followup on a letter he received from a radio listener. He wanted me to meet with people in a Sunday church who wrote that they were interested in learning more about the Bible. Whenever there is an opportunity to share Jesus, I usually respond with a “Yes”, but this time I was reluctant to go. I did not mind traveling that far on my moped but I replied, “I know that area and people in that city have a much higher education than I have. How can I lead them to believe in God? They will not listen to me” Pastor Isah Young responded, “Pray about it.” After much prayer, I agreed to go. I did not want to be like Jonah who ran from Ninevah. I prayed that the Lord would lead me to the right place and guide each part of this journey.

An Adventist brother living in the province showed me the location of where the interested congregation was. I stayed there for eight days and after visiting people in their homes, discovered that these people had been listening to the Peace & Happiness radio broadcast for many years, yet I was their first contact with the Adventist Church. The Lord had prepared their hearts to know the truth and I taught them using the New Beginnings DVD program from early morning until 10:00 p.m. each day.

I believe many people are praying for the work of Vietnam because we see God working and feel God’s protecting hand on us. During that time God blessed with a total of eighty believers who accepted the truth presented to them. In December, I returned to this city to encourage the two ASAP lay pastors now working there and held a Bible worker training. During the first day of the training the police came in and dissolved the meeting. We moved to a different location and were able to complete the training successfully. I praise God to see that the small number of believers grew to approximately five hundred. I believe many people are praying for the work of Vietnam because we see God working and feel God’s protecting hand on us. Not long ago, my brother and I were on a mission to distribute the stipends of the ASAP missionaries within the highlands of Vietnam. We were traveling on a quiet, winding road when we heard a loud

“boom”. The moped started swerving around the road and we quickly slowed down to a stop and saw that one of the tires was flat. He asked me to get off to lessen the load and said that he would slowly drive the moped about eight more kilometers to a repair shop where we would eventually meet up again. I agreed, thinking this was a good plan until after he left. Then I realized I was all alone with jungle on each side of the road. Fear suddenly filled my heart because I knew this area was full of robbers. I was carrying a lot of cash, God’s money for the faithful ASAP youth evangelists and lay pastors. I started worrying, “What if some thugs attacked me and stole the money? If they beat me up, then people would understand what happened. But if they just stole the money and left, people might think that I pocketed it.”

As the dark started to close in around me, I knelt down in the middle of the dirt road and prayed. I said, “Be with me, God, and protect your money from any thieves.” About five minutes later I heard the small sound of a moped. A young lady passed by. After driving on a little distance, she turned back and stopped beside me. She asked, “Why are you walking by yourself? Don’t you know how dangerous it is? Just a few days ago the police arrested five gang members right in this area.” She said, “Get on my bike and I will take you home.” She happened to be the wife of the forest ranger and was carrying a gun. This “angel” took me to the repair shop where I met up with my brother. I thank God for always providing just what is needed at the right time. * Names have been changed and faces blurred for the safety of God’s servants.

Pray that I will be anointed by the Lord to go forward in His work.

Pray for the blessing of the Lord on the DVD distribution project and that we will have enough DVDs and players to reach out to new areas.

Pray that the government will be easier on our workers and members who actively evangelize so that God’s Word can be preached all throughout the country and many will believe in Him.

Pray for my son and daughter who work as youth evangelists and that my entire family will be supportive in God’s work for Him.

Pray for continued safety for the missionaries and that they will have all they need, such as funds for gasoline and assistance in repairing their mopeds.

Pray that the poor ethnic people in the Highlands will have enough physical and spiritual food, along with clean water wells.

Hearing the Shepherd’s Voice Always Saying a Prayer in Vietnam—By Isah Young*

am so touched by God’s beautiful promise in Psalm 23, “the Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not lack anything.” As human beings, we are so limited in what we are capable of doing. The sooner we discover this fact, and follow the Shepherd, our ultimate provider, the better off we are. I believe the house church movement in Vietnam continues to grow rapidly because those involved take time in prayer to listen to the Shepherd’s voice and obediently follow Him. Here are some results of the way the Shepherd has led, fed, protected, and cared for His sheep in Vietnam during this past quarter.

cover and requested more DVDs. Now they are bringing their children to the house church every day for Bible studies. The Good Shepherd heard the cries of 700 families, battered from the recent storms in the Central and Highland areas of Vietnam. ASAP responded with $20,000 of assistance for the flood victims and families worst hit. In another area, six groups now have new worship chapels to praise God in, and six villages now have fresh clean water wells. The results of listening to the Shepherd’s voice and obediently following Him extend far beyond what I shared above. God promises in Psalm 23:6, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” My heart aches for the lost people around the world who desperately attempt to appease their gods by offering sacrifices yet never obtain the assurance of the peace they seek. I hope and pray that more souls will learn to hear and obey the Good Shepherd’s voice and claim this promise, this assurance. For it inevitably will calm hearts, soothe souls, and bring them success in their lives. *Names of workers in this article are changed, and exact locations of places are withheld for safety of God’s workers and the work they are doing.

Praying for a Harvest Always Saying a Prayer in cambodia—By Ruth Jackson

ow to share the message of the Bible with the people of Cambodia? That is the burning question! Recently, in Takeo province, my husband and I noticed two boys listening eagerly to the seminar we were running. Afterward, they came up and insisted that the next day we come to their village to share God’s Word with the people there. These boys had only just been introduced to the Christian message through the witness of their ASAP literacy teacher, and at their urging, though we were ready to be home, the Spirit led us to say “yes”. Late on Sunday we drove down a rough dirt road with Pastors Sum Ngeth and Hang Dara, their wives and a few church

members. We bumped along until we arrived at the home of Mr. Heng Sreng, the uncle of the boys. After my husband shared the story of Jesus with Sreng and his intently listening friends and family, he thanked us and told us that he was ready to become a Christian but just needed someone to teach him. He stated that he had been waiting for the “pastor from Australia and the translator” to come. Waiting for the “pastor from Australia and the translator” to come we asked? How did he know anything about us? We had never heard of him and certainly had no plans to visit. But God knew the hearts in that isolated place! Not long ago Sreng’s daughter had become an Adventist and had been communicating with her father over the phone about her new faith in Jesus. We had met her some weeks earlier on

a Sabbath visit to Koh Kong where Pr. Hang Dara had also translated for us. That Sabbath we had held special prayer with her for her family. Though we were completely unaware of any connection with anyone many miles away in this remote village, God was not! Unbeknownst to us, God had impressed her to tell him that the pastor from Australia and the translator would soon come to visit in his village and they would explain more about the true God and the way to heaven! Was our arrival there simply a coincidence? Perhaps a random event, a mere chance, or was it indeed the leading of God? There was no church in this village, no organized group, not even a single Adventist, yet God had so ordered circumstance and minds to respond to one man’s search. Today, Heng Sreng has burnt his spirit houses and chosen to accept Jesus as his Saviour. He continues to have Bible studies with Pr. Sum Ngeth and is taking his first tentative steps toward God. His nephews are growing in their new faith and desperately wanting to tell others. Yesterday we met them once again and encouraged them to be strong in the face of obvious difficulty, prejudice and challenge from their Buddhist neighbors. Ellen White writes, “All over the world men and women are looking wistfully to heaven. Prayers, tears and inquires go up from souls longing for light, for grace, for the Holy Spirit. Many are on the verge of the kingdom, waiting only to be gathered in.” AA p.109 How to share the message? Not by might, not by power but by My Spirit says the Lord. Thank you for your ongoing support, love and prayers for the outpouring of God’s Spirit. SIMPLE, YET EFFECTIVE Pray for the poor and sick people so that God will help them physically and spiritually. I feel bad for the people who live by the garbage dumps. I teach them God’s simple health principles such as boiling their drinking water, washing their hands and keeping their clothes and homes clean so they will not get sick so often. I pray with them and keep praying in my heart that they will listen and do what I teach. A CHANGE FOR BAN CHANTHY Ban Chanthy, a 29 year old mother of four who works in

the garbage dumps, did listen, and her life is full of hope in Jesus today. When I met her, she had a chronic stomach disease for three years. Her husband was a smoker, drinker and gambler. She lived in fear and pain. After one month of praying for her and receiving natural treatments, she got completely better. But the best answer to prayer was when her husband returned home a changed man. At present, Chanthy, together with her husband come to church every Sabbath day to study the Bible. We are so happy to have this family with us. So far, Chanthy has convinced many people to believe in God.

GREAT RESULTS Daily, I go to people’s homes, administer natural remedies, pray and tell them

stories of how God worked miracles in similar cases today and in the Bible times. I helped four people whose legs were paralyzed due to strokes, five with gastric problems, and one with TB. Six out of these ten patients, who did not know the name of Christ before I met them, now come to church regularly.

CONNECTED TO THE POWER I start every day by praying at least for one hour (usually at 3 am and before I go to bed) and also spend about one and a half hours studying the Bible. It is our tradition to invite our neighbors to join us for our family worship every evening. I praise the Lord for that. I know this connection to God is what makes me an effective worker and a loving mother and grandmother.

What Happens When We Listen By Jon D’Avanzo

bout a year ago I was having a hard time sleeping. It was one of those nights where I tossed and turned until I finally gave up trying to sleep and began reading my Bible. It felt as though God had something to say to me and I was all ears. While reading the Bible, God impressed me to call Judy Aitken in the morning because there was a special project that I was to be a part of. The Lord also impressed me that it would cost $3,500. Since these types of impressions rarely happen to me, I wondered whether there was a chance the impression was only from my own thoughts and not from God.

i had no idea that god could use me in this way, and it has greatly strengthed my faith. In the morning I called Judy. I asked her if there was a special project she was praying for. She told me they were just praying at the staff worship a few minutes earlier about a need for a well project that was in Village 23 in Laos. The villagers were in need of a water system and well because the village is situated on a plateau high above the river level. The path to obtain water is slippery and dangerous, and women and children often fell and injured themselves along the way. Because they needed to drill down three hundred feet and use larger pipes and build a tank adequate to supply water for forty families, the costs were higher than average for an ASAP well project. The small handful of church members who work as banana farmers had saved about $400, but that was not nearly enough. They wanted to build a well with a water system that would be available to the entire village as a way of showing the love of Jesus. web:

I then told Judy about my impression from the Lord and the amount that I was to donate. She began to praise God! He had answered her prayer because the water system cost $3,200, and the extra $300 I was donating would provide a Bible worker/lay pastor as well which was also very much needed. You can learn more about this missionary, Kham La, by reading his profile on page 21 of the newsletter. The well in fact was a source of daily nourishment to this village and it gave the people a foretaste of the Water of Life available to them. Now, over seventy members worship each Sabbath in this village. I had no idea that God could use me in this way, and it has greatly strengthened my faith. I am so glad that I did not turn over and go back to sleep that night. I encourage you to listen to God speaking to you. Why Pray for Myanmar? Always Saying a Prayer in myanmar—By Sam Ngala

t was a gloomy afternoon at one of the Adventist schools in Myanmar where my father was serving as a teacher. Though I was only seven years old at the time, I vividly remember how the devil was at work that day. There was a great commotion in the girls’ dormitory. Soon a mass of people were rushing to the school’s chapel. Curious by such a commotion, I decided to join them and ran all the way in and out of the people to reach the chapel and see for myself what was happening. Before I had even stepped foot into the chapel, I heard high-pitch shrieking sounds coming from a high school girl. Those eerie sounds immediately silenced my train of thought. As I came in, I saw a young lady, foaming madly at the mouth, being held down to the ground by many strong men. Her eyes looked wild and she screamed words that no one understood. To this day, I have never encountered anyone stronger than she was. I witnessed my father and a group of dedicated people fall to their knees, circling around her. Many prayers lifted heavenward, asking God to cast the devil out of His daughter. The devil, not willing to give up without a fight, went into another high school girl that was standing nearby. Some of the staff and high school boys rushed to hold her down so that she would not attack those around her. As the crowd continued to plead for Divine intervention, I joined my small prayer along with them. After praying, for what felt like days to a little child, we saw the fulfillment of what the apostle Paul said in Romans 8:31-32, “What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all—how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?” (NIV) Praise God! The girl that was demon-possessed was set free. Why should we pray for Myanmar? If you travel across my country, you would see spirit (nat) houses in front of almost every home, under banyan trees, by the foot of mountains, by

entrances to villages and towns, in busy market stalls, everywhere. People live in fear of spirits not knowing that there is a powerful, merciful Father in Heaven who can deliver them. They sacrifice animals and do good deeds, or merit, to appease the spirits. They beg the spirits for prosperity, good harvests, to ward off evil, to fight spells and to cast spells on others, to be healed and protect them. More than 50 million people in Myanmar have never been witnessed to by a Christian.

DAILY SCENERY I go and visit different homes and patients. I pray for the family, and teach them

the health message, that as an Adventist I hold dear. When I use any food or remedy, such as fruit and vegetable juice, massage, hydro therapy, charcoal poultice, herbs, etc. to treat the people, I always include prayer as the best remedy. Wherever I go, I enroll those that I come into contact with in Voice of Prophecy (VOP) health lessons.

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDLY Last April, my husband and I gave health and lifestyle counseling to

a Muslim family for two hours every week. He was drinking 10 to 12 cups of coffee a day. Within two months as a result of the counseling, his blood sugar went down from 600 to 200. Since their house is small and can’t accommodate a lot of people, my husband and I tried to give health teaching in his front yard. Although their neighbors came and listened to our health teaching, some of them did not like what we were teaching. Please pray for this Muslim family and his neighbors. He suffers from Tuberculosis and Hyperglycemia.

WHEN PRAYER TRANSFORMS When I conducted medical missionary training in Kyauk*, I met and trained Miss San*, a 26 year-old non-Adventist who became an Adventist. Because of her decision to follow God, her parents drove her out of the house. Instead of getting discouraged, she has been actively working with the youth from *Kyauk church. Because of her prayers, her faith, and bravery to stand firm for Christ, her siblings chose to become Adventists as well. Praise God for what He does. CONNECTED TO ABOVE I always have a prayer in my heart. To me, prayer is the core of my life and work. I do not only pray individually, but also corporately, with others from my church. I always pray for every patient; that is the very first thing I do before giving treatment or lifestyle training. P Thailand Church Planter: Boonrod Sriya By Judy Aitken

Boonrod Sriya serves God in a rural area within Ubon Province of Thailand. As I was interviewing him at the last ASAP training, I discovered a theme to his answers. Many of them focused on the important role prayer plays in his personal life and ministry.

JUDY: Boonrod, tell me about your family. BOONROD: We are doing well now. My wife, Sai Hua and I used to have hot tempers so we used to fight all the time, to the point that she wanted to separate from me. Through prayer, the Lord gave us victory over temptation and He has cooled us both down. Since we pray together and have devotions together every day, we love each other more and more. JUDY: That’s beautiful! What about your children? BOONROD: Family worship has changed them! My five-year old daughter used to be a naughty girl but now God changed her to become obedient. During the two years we have been having daily family worship, we pray for each other, church members and people in the village. Now my children can pray, sing and have memorized the Ten Commandments and many promises in the Bible. Praying together brings more power from the Holy Spirit to enable us to work for the Lord and it is a good influence for our church members. I have my personal prayer time as well, because if I don’t, I have nightmares. JUDY: What other ways has God come through for you personally? BOONROD: One time when Pr. Boonrat Moolkeo was conducting a seminar here in Ubon, he found out that I was seriously sick so he came and prayed for me. I needed a blood transfusion and they could not find the right kind of blood for me. I believe God delivered me after Pr. Boonrat prayed, because after that people offered to donate blood and we found a match. I was so sick I could not even speak and thank him at that time. But in my heart I thanked God. After I recovered, the Adventist Mission called me to work for God. I am so happy to serve Him. JUDY: I heard that your church group is growing. What is causing the growth? BOONROD: If I do not witness to others, I feel useless and like I have robbed God of the time he has given me. When I am out visiting people and telling them about God, I feel peaceful in my heart and content. I taught my church members how to witness also. We began praying for God to lead us to the people who He prepared their hearts to come to church. From the outside, we cannot tell who has the seeds planted in their hearts. Prayer helps us know who is ready to learn more. Thank God for twelve people who were baptized. One man was already a Christian who worshipped on Sunday and also practiced Buddhism. After he learned about the Sabbath truth and the power of God, he had us visit his home and cast out the evil spirits. JUDY: Do you have any more stories of answered prayer? BOONROD: I have seen many answers to prayer. One of my church members would get chronic migraines. The headaches increased in strength until he had to resign from his job. He seldom came to church and moved to Bangkok and sank into a secular life including drinking and smoking. As soon as I heard he returned back home, I went to visit him and took him to the hospital. I prayed for him and invited him to come back to church. The elders anointed him with oil and prayed. The following day he felt better. One of his Buddhist friends convinced him to visit a shaman, so he went. At night he felt surrounded by his enemies, that were trying to kill him. It was not long before he returned to church and confessed his sin of unbelief. After his prayer for forgiveness, his headache immediately went away. Now everyday he works in the rice field, headache free. Another story is how God protected Mrs. Thongsook Chonboon. One Sabbath day, she decided not to go to church, but worked in her rice field instead. She heard her daughter yell, “Snake, snake!” but she continued planting rice and ignored the warning. Her daughter yelled louder and she looked up and saw the snake right by her. She ran to the edge of the field and asked her husband to go and kill the snake. They found out it was a king cobra. After this experience, she was so touched by God’s great love for her. She felt bad that she was working on the Sabbath day and decided to go to church instead and pray to God, thanking Him for His protection. JUDY: What would you like me and your family of God in America to pray for? BOONROD: First praise the Lord with me that now because of ASAP, I can work full time for the Lord. Before I only worked as a part-time volunteer Bible worker. God answered my prayer to have more time to witness. Please pray for the twelve new believers and seven who are taking Bible studies with me now. Three of them have children who do not want them to be baptized. Pray for one man who lives near the church and cannot walk and others who are sick.

Much Prayer—Much Blessing Always Saying a Prayer in NORTH AMERICA—By MARTIN KIM

love the motto of the Jefferson Baptist Church in Oregon where Dee Duke serves as the senior pastor. “Much prayer, much blessing; little prayer, little blessing; no prayer, no blessing.” We at ASAP wanted to experience much blessing. For this reason we began the 2009 year by hosting a “Ten Days of Prayer”. We opened our doors and invited ministry leaders and anyone interested in prayer in the community to join us for the first ten nights of the 2009 year. The Lord blessed us in many ways and we heard testimony after testimony of answered prayers. As the ten days of prayer came to an end, we decided to continue meeting on a weekly basis because we realized the blessing of coming together to unite in prayer. However, a few of us were not content to just meet once a week for united prayer.

As we continued to pray about the idea of coming together more often for prayer, the Lord made it clear to us in different ways and through different people that He wanted us to open up ASAP for a daily prayer fellowship. Since March 29, 2009, we have been meeting from 1-2 pm Monday through Thursday and from 12-1 pm on Fridays to pray. It has been a rich blessing to our ministry and to our prayer partners to come together each day for deep intimate communion with God and intense supplication. We often wonder how we ever made it in the past without this hour of power.

However, a few of us were not content to just meet once a week for united prayer We thought about the disciples’ experience after Jesus ascended to heaven, and how they seriously took Jesus’ command to “tarry.” In Luke 24:49, Jesus said, “tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” Jesus didn’t tell them to pray for ten days. They were to pray until they were “endued with power from on high.” Speaking of this power, Jesus said, “you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). When the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples it enabled them to take the gospel to the then-known world. Much prayer resulted in much blessing! The disciples prayed for ten days and then preached for ten minutes, and thousands were converted. Oh, how we felt the need to experience what the disciples experienced on the day of Pentecost.

MY MOTHER’S EXAMPLE Since giving my life to Christ five years ago, I had a growing

understanding of the importance of prayer, but something that has really impacted me over the last few years is my mother’s relationship with God. Through her example, I have seen how closely we can walk with Jesus if we choose to. We can talk with Him, we can see Him work, and we can trust Him and love Him with all of our hearts. And she connects with Him strongly through prayer, often praying up to two hours, sometimes more. That is an experience that I want to have.

SEEKING GOD’S FACE TOGETHER I love going to the ASAP prayer meetings because whenever I go, I am confident that there will be others there who share the same spirit of prayer. It makes a difference when you know that those around you believe in prayer just like you do, and you are seeking God’s face and His throne together. I am blessed by the prayers of others, and in addition to private prayer, the public prayer often adds another dimension to my connection with God. I leave greatly blessed whenever I attend. PRAYING FOR REVIVAL I long to see God bring revival to my life and to the lives of those around me, and I want to see it spread. I am confident that He is going to do something because He has placed revival on the hearts of many, independent of each other. We are asking Him to pour out His Spirit in a way that we have never before seen. There have been many powerful revivals in history. My question is, Why not here? Why not now? BECAUSE I NEED IT I come to the prayer meetings because I need it. There have been times when I have felt spiritually dry, discouraged, confused, or overwhelmed and left feeling refreshed. I come because there is even more of a blessing in lifting up others in prayer with a group that is united than if I did it by myself (Matthew 18:19-20). This year Pastor Sadua Lee and I visited and preached the gospel to many new interests in mountain areas of Central Laos. We thank God for 38 people who have been baptized from this area. Recently I heard from Cha Dua, one of the converts, who told me that he had shared the gospel with seven people who are now asking for baptism. GOD USED MY WIFE My wife is the one who brought me to believe in God. After listening to the stories of Jesus and salvation that my wife told me, I started to believe in Him. I then decided to go out to tell the Good News to other people. I went to receive training in Thailand for four months. When I returned, I started a group in my village. I continue to work with this same group. MANY ANSWERED PRAYERS God answered many prayers of mine. My church members and I prayed for needed water. The women and children would walk down a steep hill. Now the whole village has water. The Lord provided! We prayed to be led in our work of evangelizing. The Lord led! We prayed for the sick to be healed. The Lord healed them! USING CHRIST’S METHOD I love to see how God works through me. I seek to help people when

they are sick or in need of something. Through natural remedies and much prayer, I treat the sick and see them get better. When they get cured, they believe in God. I also help them in many other ways. When I help the people with their needs, they are much more open to hearing about Jesus.

HE GIVES ME WISDOM My goal is to be anointed by the Holy Spirit so that I will have the courage and the ability to lead more people to know Him. In times of difficulty, God gives me wisdom and points out a way which He wants me to take. I feel it is a privilege to work for Jesus. When I can help other people who are not able to repay me in any way, it gives me great joy as I know that I am doing something for Jesus. PRAYING FOR A CHURCH We have been praying that God will provide us a church. Currently,

we meet in the house of the village chief, who is Adventist. He is the one who led my wife, and then the rest of my family to Christ. Mr. Sen has set aside land to build a church, but please pray the government gives us permission to build this and also pray that God will send all the money needed for this as He sent money for a well.

Get to Praying and Pray to Get Going By Scott Griswold

have to ask you, “Are you praying for Buddhists?” The reason I ask is because I’m surrounded by millions of Buddhists who never even had one chance to hear Jesus’ name. Does that bother you? It’s my job, and my heart, as the director of the Global Mission Buddhist Study Center to know where they are and to encourage Christians to share God’s love with them. Huge populations exist in places like Japan and Thailand where whole cities have hardly a witness for Christ. There are hundreds of small Buddhist tribes scattered through the rice paddies and mountains of Myanmar, Laos, Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet, and beyond.

So what about you? Are you willing to pray for those you don’t know? It’s not easy. At first you might not know what to say. You might get bored. But I’m confident that if you ask God to give you the Holy Spirit, He will empower you. If you persevere, God will use you mightily to help finish His work. Sometimes I’m overwhelmed by the needs of these millions. Here is what I am confident of: Jesus wants to come soon. He’s waiting for all of them to know His gospel. We can hasten His coming. Let’s get to praying and pray to get going.

The question is, “Who’s praying for them like we pray for our straying brothers and children?” They matter terribly to God, even if no Christian knows them. Three years ago my son Nathan and I visited one Buddhist country with Pastor Rick McEdward. It’s a country ASAP has projects in. Our purpose was to talk with mission leaders about laying a strategy to reach some of the 35 or so unreached Buddhist tribal groups in that country. It was an exciting time. We divided the names of the ethnic groups among the attendees and prayed. I challenged them to adopt two people groups and keep praying.

Great plans were laid and we went away. Time passed, we got busy and heard nothing. In time I wondered if the effort had been worth anything. Then this year I had a chance to return. Eagerly, one of the leaders showed me a stack of pictures. “Do you remember inviting me to pray for two people groups?” he asked. I remembered. “There are now Seventh-day Adventist believers in both groups!” he excitedly reported. How did it happen? He prayed. He acted. God worked His miracles in response.

I have two reasons why I give to ASAP. I see that God is doing something amazing in those countries, especially Vietnam. There are so many people accepting Christ, so many miracles. If people choose not to believe them, they will have to reckon with God some day. I appreciate that 100% of what I give goes to the project in the field that I give it to. I know the money is used carefully and stretches far over there. David
