“We are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.” 2 Corinthians 2:15 The Priceless Gift Catalog you hold in your hands is unlike any other catalog. The contents within contain items and descriptions that save lives--both physically and spiritually. We call this catalog “priceless” because it is impossible to put a value on the sweet fragrance of Christ’s love and sacrifice. These gifts dramatically transform lives through the compassionate love of Jesus Christ. Each gift points directly to ASAP’S purpose of sharing Christ; be it salaries for national pastors, literacy teachers who reach out to the poor (mostly women and children) living in slum areas of Asia, church buildings or Bibles and other religious materials in their national language. You will notice other gifts that share Christ’s love via practical ways such as giving food in response to drought and flood, and transportation for national missionaries to travel between villages. ASAP shares your sense of urgency to spread the gospel because Christ IS coming As Soon As Possible. Together with the mission leaders who are in charge of God’s work in Southeast Asia, we have captured gifts that have the biggest impact for Christ. Thank you for partnering with ASAP to build Christ’s kingdom. Thank you for finding a way to make the gifts in this catalog a reality. Last year I asked my children to shop from this catalog for my holiday gifts. This year I plan to do the same. Time is short. Why not lay up treasure in Heaven? Why not take every opportunity to share the priceless gift of Christ’s love? It is my prayer that you will be richer this year than you have ever been in the eyes of heaven as you make eternal investments.

Why Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar? The simple answer to this question is because the Bible says: “For so the Lord has commanded us: ‘I have set you as a light to the Gentiles that you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.’” Acts 13:47 The more complex reason for focusing on Southeast Asian countries has to do with the great need in this part of the world. For instance, because Vietnamese, Laotians and Burmese have been ruled by communist governments, religion has been oppressed over the centuries and millions still have not had an opportunity to hear about the life-changing priceless gift of salvation just waiting for them. Many Cambodians, living in a country that is still struggling to pull itself together after the devastation of war, struggle to make a living when they lack education and opportunities. Yet in the midst of poverty, they find true joy when they meet Jesus Christ. Because the Thai people are predominantly Buddhist, they remain one of the hardest people to reach in the world. The ASAP board of directors voted to include Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, in the mission statement last fall. At that time they had no idea how important this decision was. When Cyclone Nargis, the worst natural disaster in the recorded history of Myanmar, tore through the country killing over 146,000 people, God used ASAP to be the first to respond to the Adventist brothers and sisters in need. Through the generosity of ASAP donors, many lives and homes were restored. This experience opened up avenues for ASAP to plan to assist the Adventist Mission in Myanmar in evangelism projects. ASAP believes in using Christ’s compassionate method, a wholistic approach, to winning souls into the kingdom of God. We believe in meeting the basic needs of the people through humanitarian and education projects, and leading them to a knowledge of Jesus Christ through evangelism projects. We believe that quality should supersede quantity. As we focus our attention and resources on this corner of the world, our prayer and aim is that many would be saved.

The projects in this section directly relate to getting the message of salvation through Jesus out as quickly as possible. EVANGELISM

sponsor a medical missionary— $30/mo in cambodia $150/mo in thailand

The Great Physician needs more laborers who can administer His healing touch. Medical missionaries combine prayer with natural remedies to point people to Jesus who not only heals their infirmities, but also heals their sin sick hearts.

gift 104

Members of growing groups long for a wooden or brick church. They last longer than bamboo and thatch churches, and are great for larger groups that are maturing and thriving. House churches in Vietnam need repairs throughout the year. The average amount needed for repairs is $650. For bamboo churches/literacy schools, see page 22 in the education section ($700 each).

gift 105

Your gift will make it possible for ASAP to send trained missionaries to villages where no person has heard the name of Jesus. For instance, in Myanmar, ASAP is ready to launch ten church planting projects in unreached villages. A national missionary should be placed in the village ($60 per month), Bibles and evangelistic materials ($200) provided, a generator bought to show evangelism programs ($230) and a moped for the missionary ($850). *Amount may vary depending on the location.

luke 19:10

God opened the way for me last year to make more than one hundred missionary trips and bring the gospel to thousands of people. I distributed a large number of sermons on DVD and Bible publications. I was beaten and thrown out of the houses I visited seven times and reported to the police for arrest multiple times. I was involved in a traffic accident while on my way to witness. Yet I believe that I am under God’s providence; He preserves my life in adverse conditions.

equip and empower through training—$100 to train one missionary for one year

ASAP believes in providing good training for our national missionaries so that they can be effective soul winners who will “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks the reason for the hope that they have” 2 Peter 3:15. Many missionaries have a heart full of love for God but little knowledge about God. Help make it possible for ASAP missionaries to be well trained.

Twice the Help?

by seksak kiatyanyong , pastor of the ekamai sda church and coordinator of the omnoi sda church plant , edited by jayme anderson

A young lady, named Pa, began coming to the Omnoi SDA church plant near Bangkok, Thailand that ASAP helps to support. She sat in the front each week and was very excited about the things she was learning about God. She started Bible studies with me to learn more. Though she began praying to God, she still kept an idol next to her bed. She reasoned that if she worshiped both of them, she would receive double the blessings. Pa suddenly started experiencing pain throughout her whole body. Strange sores appeared on her skin, and she became afraid. When she visited me, she explained what was happening to her. I prayed for her and explained that she could not keep the idol and pray to both, but needed to choose who she wanted to give her whole heart to. When she got rid of the idol everything went back to normal. Pa continued Bible studies and chose to be baptized. Praise God!

Meeting Jesus at the Beach By vietnam lay pastor: LE NGUYEN A team and I often go to a famous beach vacation spot near our housechurch to witness. After saying a prayer and studying people’s faces, we approach them. We introduce ourselves, chat about everyday life, show a friendly interest in them and wait to share pamphlets and information after they talk about the problems in their life. For instance, if they look anxious and worried, we have a DVD sermon about peace found in God ready to hand them. I thank God that a day never passes without someone immediately receiving the Lord into their hearts and a Sabbath never passes without some joining our house-church worship. We always tell people about the radio broadcast that they can listen to when they return to their homes. We met 75-year-old Pham* this way. He started coming to the house-church worship service, asked for Bible studies, and now serves God faithfully. Since then, his wife and about thirty of his children and grandchildren began studying with me. *Names changed and face blured to protect the individuals

Featured Projects strengthen the asap national missionary workforce

This is THE most important project in the ASAP Priceless Gift Catalog and needs the majority of support. The dedicated, trained individuals on the front lines, sharing the gospel day in and day out, is the lifeblood of ASAP. Without their loving service to the Lord, ASAP would not function. This army of workers continues to grow every year as God answers our prayers for more laborers to be thrust out to harvest the ripe fields. ASAP felt impressed to raise the stipends of the workers because of increased prices for rice and the rising cost of living in Asia. We trust God will provide for His faithful workers!

This year, it is in the works for the broadcast to be aired on a FM station in Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital.

EDUCATION “Show me Your ways, O Lord. Teach me Your paths.” psalm 25:4

“l am thankful to ASAP for supporting the literacy program in my region. By having this program, children have joy in their lives. Now they and their parents know the name of Jesus. They also can read, write, sing and pray to God. This program helps my churches to grow.” ASAP Church Planter Long Pheng

EDUCATION Getting an education is a dream for many Southeast Asian children. They would love to learn to read and write and have their own notebook and pencil, but many cannot afford it. Help fulfill the dreams of young people in Southeast Asia as you support one of the projects in this section. Please note: The special thing about each ASAP education project is that it is a soul winning opportunity.

literacy program—$20 provides basic school supplies to one student

Many children desperately want to attend school but cannot because parents have no way of providing for the costs involved. Sadly, many end up in child labor to help support the family. Women who never learned how to read and write also attend these literacy schools. In a matter of one year, most of the children are caught up to the reading level of their grade.

gift 130

give a student the best textbook ever written—$10

Most of us may have several Bibles at home. And most of them may not be read. The students in Southeast Asia are eager to have their own Bibles which they can use at school as well as bring home to read to their parents.

help one child of an sda pastor attend an adventist school—$10/mo

By providing $10 a month you can help alleviate the anxiety of pastoral couples who want to provide their children with an Adventist education. You also can help ASAP give assistance to students attending Mission College in Thailand.

Q

by pin thearith, asap church planter in cambodia

When I opened a new English/literacy class in the Borey Kamsan church, fifteen students came the first night. Among them was a seventeen year-old crippled boy named So Pheak. When I first saw him ride into class in his wheelchair, I had no idea that he would end up becoming such a good student.

Before the second Sabbath came, he road his wheelchair around the neighborhood eagerly inviting each and every student to join him at church. He brought ten more students to worship God and most of them were the students who tried to discourage him with their empty warnings just one week before. After the worship So Pheak asked them, “How do you feel about worshiping God now that you have experienced it for yourselves?” They told him, “We feel like a heaviness has lifted off our hearts. We think it is good to worship God. He must be the true God. But will He forgive us for how we doubted Him?” This question prompted So Pheak to come and ask me more about God and now we are studying the Bible. He is persuading the others to study the Bible with us. Now we have eight students in the Bible class and each week he continues to invite new students to church on Sabbath too. I am very thankful to God for providing me such a sincere student who is not afraid to tell others about Jesus. I would like to request ASAP to pray that he will have a strong faith in God forever.

Q

psalm 25:4

When l read your letter l thought, l can do without a little to help someone. l’m 80 years old and the Lord has blessed me with good health all these years. He has also supplied my every need. l am like the little widow with a barrel of meal that has never run dry.

“Show me Your ways, O Lord. Teach me Your paths.”

After the first week of classes, I invited all the students to join me in worshipping God on Sabbath. So Pheak was one of the three students that showed up. The following Monday, I asked the three to share with the rest of the class what they thought about the worship. So Pheak was first to raise his hand. He said, “I was so happy after worshipping God. There was a peace in heart I never felt before. It was great to sing and praise Him.” After class, some of the students sternly warned So Pheak. “Be careful! Jesus might come in and possess your soul,” they said. He sat quietly and did not respond to them.

Featured Project ignite body and mind—support the feed & read program—$240/year for one student or $20/mo*

The ASAP Feed & Read program is changing lives and bringing hope to children who are without hope. Many children growing up in slums and working alongside parents who dig in the trash dumps for recyclables now have a chance to break the cycle of poverty. Through this program ASAP seeks to provide at least one hot meal a day and provide a basic Christian education for the children of parents that earn less than a dollar a day. *The increase

donate a bamboo and thatch school/church—$700 each

Bamboo schools/churches are modest structures that allow Southeast Asians to come together to learn and worship. Since a bamboo structure serves as a church on Sabbath and a literacy school during the week, it is like feeding two birds with one scone. Currently ASAP has multiple groups meeting outside and in small homes that are not suited for the number of students and church members. Your gift can change that!

“Do not stand on a high pedestal and take 5 cents in your hand and say, ‘Here, my poor man,’ but be grateful that the poor man is there, so by making a gift to him you are able to help yourself. lt is not the receiver that is blessed, but it is the giver. HUMANITARIAN ASAP’s humanitarian projects aim to reach out to individuals and groups to improve their well being and give them skills they need to overcome desperate or poverty stricken situations. Each project is managed by trusted ASAP national missionaries and Adventist staff and is inspired and driven by our Christian values. Whether ASAP is assisting people impacted by a disaster or empowering women through sewing schools, Jesus’ love is at the forefront through practical acts of service.

restore lives! keep the sda center–aids hospice running— $34,000/year, $200,000 needed for building a permanent center

People with AIDS are often deserted by their own family members. They are ignored by friends and despised by their neighbors. Many have no place to sleep, no money for food, and no shoulder to cry on. ASAP provides care, a home, food, and a family environment for Adventists with AIDS and their family members through the Sda Center/AIDS Hospice. A school even meets for the children and those in the neighborhood. This place, most importantly, is where people experience the love of Jesus. ASAP feels a burden to build a permanent AIDS hospice residence out of the city as Ellen White advises. We solicit your prayers and support for this to happen.

Q

by sopheap horng, children’s ministry director of cambodia adventist mission

I was worried about Phallavy when she was a toddler because she didn’t speak. I prayed to God and told Him, “We dedicated Phallavy to you, so I know you will use her some day to serve you.” When she was three, she started speaking at home and asking her dad and me many questions like, Why is this? What is that? Where? When and How come? I knew that during the time she did not speak, she was observing and learning a lot.

Q

Blessed is he who considers the poor; the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.

proverbs 28:27

From September 15-19, 2008 we conducted evangelistic meetings held at the Sda Center (AIDS hospice) church and every night a different PK (pastor’s kid) was asked to participate. Surprisingly, little Phallavy wanted to tell a Bible story and sing the song, My God Is So Great! When I saw her standing in front of 130 children and sharing Jesus with them, my heart was filled with joy for God answering my prayers. I knew He had sent the Holy Spirit to work on Phallavy’s heart and help her to not only be able to speak, but to speak for Jesus. Phallavy and I were so happy to see many children, some HIV positive and some not, accept Jesus Christ into their hearts. Please join me in praying that God will continue to use my daughter, Phallavy, and other children to be His voice.

“He who gives to the poor will not lack.”

Since growing in my womb, I enjoyed reading Bible stories to Phallavy, my daughter who just turned five, and her older brother David. To this day, Phallavy cannot go to sleep without hearing a story out of God’s Word. She started attending church since she was two weeks old and has been my little shadow as I lead out in Sabbath Schools, VBS programs, the hospice activities, Pathfinders and other church related events.

Featured Project provide a future by supporting shine cambodia shine (micro-loan project)—$26,000 needed to launch

The thought of selling our children would never cross our minds. However, parents in Southeast Asia often sell their children simply because they do not see another way of getting enough money for food to provide for the rest of the family. With a little money we can help women start small enterprises so they do not resort to drastic, harmful measures. When ASAP meets the financial goal of $40,000, a new program called Shine Cambodia Shine will begin, where microloans will be given to women in need. This well thought-out program will mirror what is happening in the Philippines through Project Hope. It will transform entire communities in poverty stricken areas of Cambodia. The women will have monthly contact with ASAP national missionaries as well as their SDA loan officers. They will not only learn how to run a small business, but they will learn about topics such as how to have a happy family, personal hygiene, and about Jesus Christ, their Savior.

Christ is Coming ASAP … Reach Asia Now!

proverbs 28:27

Every day he came to visit me he would ask, “Is there anything I can do to help you?” For many years I had no place to live. I used to sleep on the side of the street. I asked the village chief if he would allow me to build a small cottage in a ditch. He agreed and gave me permission. Yem Dalai and some church members helped me buy thatch and wood and helped me build the hut. On August 26, 2008 I was able to sleep in my own home. I am happy and thankful to God for giving me a place to lay my head and giving me a family in Christ.

“He who gives to the poor will not lack.”

My name is Keo Pun. I am a sixty-five year old widow. I live hand to mouth. When I am hungry sometimes I search for snails and crabs in the field to eat. I have faced many sorrows and difficulties in my life but the biggest one was losing my husband and seven children during the Pol Pot regime. I felt very alone and had no one to look after me until I met Mr. Yem Dalai the ASAP church planter. When he first came up to me, I did not want to talk to him, but he did not give up. When I finally told him about my terrible situation, he encouraged and comforted me. He told me about God’s greatness. He said, “God loves the people all over the world including you.” This touched my heart. He read many stories and verses from the Bible and explained the meanings to me.
