The American School of Bombay seeks an educator with a growth mindset to join our team of collaborative and passionate international educators and enhance our comprehensive music program As a member of the cross-divisional Arts Team, the music teacher will partner with colleagues to deliver a robust arts program Educators at ASB embrace the school’s mission and provide a dynamic, creative, and inclusive learning environment for every learner In recognition of the importance of its diverse school community, ASB works to ensure all members are seen, heard, and valued.
Your Responsibilities at ASB:
Teaching and Learning:
● Utilize a repertoire of teaching skills and knowledge of adolescent learners to deliver a Criteria-Based Music program to middle & high school students
● Use a culturally responsive and inclusive lens to assess content and learning.
● Explore the musical art form and scaffold the development of musical learning portfolios to encourage creative, critical, and innovative thinking,
● Leverage digital tools that resonate with students to enhance artistic skills and experiences
● Create opportunities for students to engage and collaborate with peers to promote understanding and empathy among diverse cultures
● Adapt teaching methods to align with students' cognitive, social, and emotional development, interests, and prior knowledge.
Curriculum and Planning:
● Design engaging and relevant units that connect to real-world problems or situations and provide students with opportunities for voice and choice
● Align curriculum to the National Core Arts Standards
● Direct musical performances, including soloists and ensembles
Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities:
● Engage in professional development to stay current in educational practices
● Promote collegial collaboration through strong interpersonal and intercultural communication
● Participate in professional communities to exchange and reflect on instructional practices
● Maintain documentation and collaborative resources in school-specific platforms
● Actively participate in team, divisional, and whole school staff meetings
● Liaise with support teams to prepare for concerts and events.

Student Wellbeing:
● Lead a grade-level advisory to support students' social-emotional development
● Chaperone students on ASB’s week-long experiential learning trips
● Supervise students during transitions to ensure a safe environment
● Encourage students to engage with the community beyond the classroom
● Lead or support co-curricular activities to enrich student learning and personal growth.
Co-Curricular Performing Arts Program:
● Actively engage with ASB’s co-curricular programs, galvanizing students to participate in co-curricular performing ensembles with an enthusiastic approach
● Prepare students for festivals such as AMIS and SAISA
● Chaperone students to festivals, competitions, and showcases within and outside Mumbai
● Direct and conduct student performances for stand-alone concerts and school events.
Who We’re Looking For? The ideal candidate will bring:
● A Bachelor's degree from an accredited program and teaching certification.
● A minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience in a K-12 accredited school
● Expertise in Music Education
● An understanding of the development needs of middle and high school students is needed to ensure all students are treated as individuals
● A commitment to DEIJ and SEL learning practices
