New On-Line Program for Parents Do parents you know want help raising happy, healthy, safe children? Tell them about HOMESTYLES, a no-cost, on-line program! The University of Arizona, in conjunction with Rutgers University, presents an evidence-based program for families with young children. What is HOMESTYLES? ■■ It is a series of program guides (in English or Spanish) that give quick tips and fun ideas from experts and parents to help others make small, simple changes at home. How much time does it take? It takes only about 15 minutes to review each guide. Then each day, parents spend a few minutes making simple, healthy changes suggested in the guide. Parents will read one guide each month for the next 12 months. Parents need Internet access, plus email OR phone.

■■

How much does it cost? There is no charge! In fact, if parents try simple changes and do surveys along the way, they can earn $125 and keep small gifts we send such as pedometers and measuring cups.

■■

Who can sign up? Parents who have at least one child who is 24 to 48 months old at the time they sign up.

Visit HealthyHomeStyles.com to sign up! Available in English and Spanish. Tell your parents today! If you have questions or would like flyers contact: cals-Homestyles@email.arizona.edu Submitted by Gayle Alleman, Assistant Research Scientist, University of Arizona

Niños en Mi Casa Program Have you ever thought about how nice it would be to work from home so you could stay home with your own children? Or perhaps you are already a stay-at-home-parent and wondering how you could earn income as well? The Niños en Mi Casa Program has the answer! The Niños Program provides one-on-one, home-based technical and financial assistance to help individuals complete the state certification process to become a Department of Economic Security (DES) certified family child care provider. Technical assistance includes the DES orientation class, home visits to help you safeguard your home, assistance with form completion and eight (8) hours of Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) trainings. For those that qualify, a small financial grant of $250 can be used to help purchase items necessary to safeguard your home; locking door knobs, first aid kits, or fire extinguishers. It can also be used on things required for certification such as TB tests, proof of immunizations, or Child Care Liability Insurance. The Niños program will also roll fingerprints at no cost to the applicant and provides payment for the fingerprint clearance card and CPR/First Aid classes. In Maricopa County, please call our program at 480-829-0500 x1415 or by email at mhorner@asccaz.org. If you reside in Coconino County, you can call 928-714-1716 or 800-222-3574 or by email at pstefani@asccaz.org. For further information please visit our website at www.asccaz.org, click on ASCC Programs, and then click on Niños en Mi Casa.
