KEEPING YOU dentally fit 1. Keep your regular appointments.

4. Start them young.

It’s important that you visit your dental practice every six months. Routine examinations are essential to help protect and restore your dental health. Regular appointments mean that you’re not only contributing to long-term self-confidence but you’re also taking an active role in preventing problems. We will be able to catch tooth decay in its track, long before it does long-term or permanent damage that requires costly restorations or impacts your overall oral health.

We believe preventive dental care starts from an early age. As a family-friendly group of dental practices, we love helping children start their journey to good oral health. From babies and toddler coming for their first examinations to helping with hygiene for older children – we’re here to support your child in retaining a smile they can feel confident about. Younger patients may feel a little apprehensive about having their teeth examined, however our experienced team strive to have an empathic approach to talking, educating and treating your children.

2. Have healthy mouth checks with our hygienists. Did you know that good oral hygiene can make your whole body healthier too? Our dental hygienists are qualified to give your teeth a professional deep clean, removing plaque from areas the toothbrush often misses and help prevent or detect gum disease. If you’ve had dental work such as implants or orthodontics, or simply to keep your smile in tip-top condition and super healthy, make sure you visit the hygienist at least twice a year. They can give you lots of good advice on maintaining good oral health.

3. Don’t ignore bleeding gums. It’s important to keep your teeth and gums healthy. If your gums are red, tender, swollen and bleed you may have gingivitis (gum disease). If left untreated this could lead to advanced periodontitis and the loss of one or more teeth. Thoroughly cleaning the teeth and near the gum line, our priority is to help prevent or stop the progression of gum disease through early detection and excellent oral hygiene care. If you are diagnosed with gum disease, we will refer you to our team of periodontists and devise a treatment plan based on your specific needs.

5. Brush-up in-practice or online. We’re here to help you maintain your oral health from top tips to brushing and cleaning between your teeth, to the latest treatments and practice news. So when you are unable to come into the practice, you can still maintain your oral health online. We offer advice on our website and on our blogs and social media which means you’re always connected in between visits. Plus, you can always book an online consultation to discuss your dental concerns.

ooth extraction

Gentle removal of problem teeth.

Reasons for an extraction.

Tooth extraction is something we would all like to avoid, which is why we always try to save the tooth and address the issue with restorative treatment wherever possible. However, when a tooth has become so damaged or decayed that it would be healthier for the mouth and remaining teeth to be removed, then an extraction may be the best option.

There are several reasons why a patient may require extraction, common reasons include:

We aim to make the experience as quick and painless as possible for patients, including offering IV sedation. We can also discuss options to enable you to leave surgery with a replacement tooth following the extraction.

Impacted wisdom teeth

To make room for an orthodontic appliance/ dental prosthesis

Milk teeth not falling out at a common age

Infection or decay in one or more teeth

Advanced gum disease

Damaged teeth after trauma

Abscess

Options to fill the gap. If the extracted tooth is vital to function or appearance, we offer a number of restorative options.

repair, prote White fillings. repair teeth aesthetically.

Gentle root canal therapy. prevent tooth loss.

WHAT are they?

WHAT is it?

You can have your teeth repaired aesthetically with composite resin or ‘white fillings’. Forget the days of silver amalgam (metal-based) fillings. We offer a fast, gentle and aesthetic solution to filling cavities, restoring your tooth back to its full strength and appearance whilst preventing any further damage and decay. They can also be used to close gaps and improve the shape of any uneven, rough or crooked teeth.

Root canal treatment (also referred to as endodontics) is required when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth (called the pulp) is infected with decay or injury. If the pulp is infected, the infection may spread through into the root canal system which may eventually lead to an abscess. An abscess is an inflamed area where pus collects and can cause swelling of the tissues around the tooth. It is this that can cause you pain and if root canal isn’t carried out, the infection may spread and the tooth may need to be removed.

WHY would I need them? Many people are more conscious about the way they look nowadays, so they don’t want silver fillings that show when they talk, laugh, or smile. These ‘tooth-coloured’ white fillings look a lot more natural and are less noticeable. And it’s not just for new treatments - ask us about switching your amalgam fillings to our discreet, natural-looking fillings, so that you can smile with confidence.

HOW can it be treated? Now considered as routine as a filling, our team at the practice are highly skilled in performing root canal treatment and make every effort to ‘save’ the tooth that has been damaged or infected. The treatment is designed to eliminate the pain, clear the infection and seal the inside of your tooth to prevent re-infection. Usually, a local anaesthetic is used so it shouldn’t feel painful.

ect, relax... Periodontal (gum) disease. healthy gums equal healthy teeth.

Nervous patients. conquer your dental anxiety.

WHAT is it?

WHAT can be done to alleviate my fears?

Periodontal or gum disease is a very common condition and is an infection of the tissues that hold your teeth in place. It is normally caused by poor brushing and flossing habits that allow plaque (a sticky film of bacteria) to build up on the teeth and harden. Your gums may bleed whilst brushing and you may have bad breath. This early stage of periodontal disease is referred to as gingivitis, and if untreated may worsen. Therefore, it’s important to get treated early.

HOW can it be treated? During your dental appointment, your dentist or hygienist will remove the plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line. Although dental cleaning is not a treatment for gum disease, it can be a preventive measure to stop the condition from progressing. You can also have scaling and root planning, which is a deep-cleaning, non-surgical procedure and if the condition is more serious, you may have to have periodontal or gum surgery with one of our periodontists.

We understand that a trip to the dentist may make you feel a little anxious. We are sympathetic about these feelings and thanks to advances in technology, treatments are much less invasive and the pain relief we offer is more accurate and efficient than ever before. Our relaxation and sedation options can help nervous patients feel calm, relaxed and comfortable getting the dental treatments needed to smile again.

HOW can you make treatment comfortable? We offer intravenous (IV) ‘conscious’ sedation, a procedure that combines sedative, to make you relaxed and drowsy, with analgesic (painkiller) and anaesthetic (numbing), and unaware what is going on. We will carefully and gently administer the IV sedation and monitor your breathing and pulse throughout the treatment to ensure that you are always safe and comfortable. You will need a chaperone to take you home safely.
