missing teeth Missing teeth can profoundly impact your quality of life, from the way you eat to the confidence with which you smile. If you face the prospect of missing teeth – or you already wear dentures – dental implants offer a solution that can restore your smile and quality of life.
What are dental implants? Dental implants are small, screw-like posts that are used to replace the root of a missing tooth. Made from titanium or ceramic, strong materials that have unique characteristics to fuse to live jawbone, dental implants are surgically inserted into the jawbone to create a strong foundation for a replacement tooth such as a denture, crown or bridge to be attached to the top.

The dental implants of today can offer replacement teeth that look, feel and function just like your very own natural, healthy teeth. The procedure can help to improve your chewing functions and restore your natural smile, helping you to smile, talk, eat and laugh just as you would normally do. It can also help to increase your confidence, so you may forget that you ever lost a tooth.

BENEFITS of dental implants Improve appearance
Better nutrition
Dental implants are the closest replacement to your natural teeth. We will work with you to match the colour of your surrounding teeth and fill the gap to look just like your own teeth.
Chewing raw veggies, crunchy fruits, nuts, cereals and seeds can all be consumed with the same amount of force with your natural teeth. You can therefore eat healthily without a struggle!
Feel confident Your speech isn’t affected with implants as it is with dentures. Because implants feel like normal teeth you can eat, speak and laugh again without embarrassment.
Save tooth and bone structure Prevent bone shrinkage and facial sagging caused by missing teeth and help preserve adjacent teeth and your facial structure.
Feel comfortable
Durable & long-lasting
Because your replacement teeth are securely anchored to your jawbone, they can’t slip or slide like unsecured dentures can.
With high success rates, your implants can last you a lifetime, so you can enjoy a strong, hassle-free and long-term replacement for missing teeth.
We offer a number of dental implant treatment options to help restore your smile, confidence and general wellbeing. Consult your Ascent Dental Care practice about which tooth replacement options are right for you.
your implant options
Dental implants are an effective treatment to replace and restore any number of teeth. Whether you need to restore just a single tooth, multiple teeth using implant-supported bridge or restore all of your teeth with a full mouth reconstruction, our dental experts are experienced in providing these treatments and will help you find the best solution for your own needs.
Single tooth implant placement Single implants are recommended to act as a replacement when a single tooth is missing or if a tooth needs to be extracted. If you are missing just one natural tooth, then one implant is normally all that will be needed to provide a replacement. This type of treatment is useful when we do not want to damage, modify or impact the healthy adjacent teeth on either side of the missing tooth.
Implant-supported bridge If you have several missing teeth in a row then it’s likely that you may need two or more implants to give you support to a bridge and hold several dental crowns in place. For example, two dental implants can hold three dental crowns together in one dental bridge. The number of implants required will depend on the number of teeth missing and their location.
Full-arch reconstruction Implant-supported dentures can provide a costeffective solution for full mouth reconstruction, and can be provided as one of the following; Fixed (hybrid) – a non-removable solution that requires 4-6 implants to secure a fixed full mouth bridge Removable (overdenture) – a removable option that requires as few as two dental implants to provide additional stability to an upper or lower denture.
same day dentistry A brand new smile in just one day At Ascent Dental Care we’re pleased to offer a life-changing concept, known as ‘same day dentistry’, that enables us to replace your missing teeth and restore your smile in just one day. With a ‘Same Day Smile’, your implants will be designed to be fitted straight after tooth extraction, so you are not left without any teeth for a period of time, and you can leave the practice with your new smile in just one day!
Fewer dental visits – total number of appointments from time of extraction to final restoration are shortened

Prevents movement – helps to prevent surrounding tooth movement toward the space of the missing tooth/teeth
Benefits of same-day teeth

Aesthetic – no time left with a gap
WHAT does implant treatment involve?
1
Initial consultation First, you’ll meet with our treatment coordinator who will take the time to talk you through your options, to determine which implant procedure is right for you. They will discuss what you want to achieve, any relevant medical history and can also give you an estimated cost.
2
Clinical assessment & treatment planning Next, you will meet with our dentist or Clinical Dental Technician (CDT) for a clinical assessment to determine whether you’re suitable for implants. We’ll take X-rays and CT scans of your mouth and create a 3D model of your existing teeth to help us discuss your options and formulate a treatment plan.
3
Placing your implant Depending on the quality of bone available will determine if you require bone grafting before implant placement. The dental implant procedure is straightforward and usually performed under local anaesthetic, so it’s relatively comfortable. The implant is inserted into the jawbone by an oral surgeon.
4
Healing In some cases, your new teeth may be restored the same day, but usually, your bone and gums will need some time to heal before an abutment can be attached. You may have a visible gap while the implant heals, or we can fit you with temporary teeth.
5
Fitting your replacement teeth Unless you’re having same day dentistry, it’s normal to wait between three and eight months for the implant to fully intergrate with your jawbone. After it has healed, your replacement tooth or teeth can be fitted - this includes the abutment and bespoke crowns.
6
Review & ongoing care A dental review will be arranged after surgery to see how you and your new smile are coming along. We will continue to check your progress over a 3–4-month period and will communicate any implant maintenance and aftercare.
implant FAQs Would I be suitable? Anyone who has lost a tooth or several teeth is a candidate for dental implants. You must be in good general health and will also need to have adequate bone to secure the implants or able to have a bone graft. Your dentist will perform a healthy mouth check to ensure you’re committed to keeping a good oral hygiene regime.
How painful is treatment and do you offer sedation? We use Intravenous (IV) ‘conscious’ sedation to help you relax during the procedure. We also use anaesthetic to numb the area that we are treating. The effect of these doesn’t put you fully to sleep but they work together to put you into an induced state of complete relaxation.
What if I don’t have enough bone?
Can I take pain relief?
Rest assured, in this scenario, bone can be rebuilt using a procedure called bone grafting, where we can add bone or bonelike materials to the jaw. You may also require a sinus lift, a procedure which increases the amount of bone available in the upper jaw. In more complex cases, we are also able to offer the option of pterygoid or zygomatic implants, which your dentist can discuss with you.
It is unlikely that you will experience major discomfort after the procedure. If you have mild discomfort, your dentist may suggest over-the-counter pain killers.
Will I need somebody to take me home after the procedure? Not necessarily, however, if you undergo treatment with sedation you will need a chaperone who can take you home. You may feel tired after the procedure and we encourage you to take it easy and not do anything too strenuous for the rest of the day.
Do I need to take care of my implants? Just like natural teeth, it is your responsibility to practise good oral hygiene for the optimum health of your implants. We will give you clear post-operative instructions explaining how to look after your mouth after treatment, plus information on ongoing maintenance and long-term care of your implants.
Patient testimonials LINDA
RUTH
I got to the stage where I was very conscious of my teeth; they kept falling out and I wouldn’t go out or smile – it was making me miserable. I was crying when I first got here – but they were marvellous and they promised me that I would have a lovely smile when I walked out of here, and I have.
All of my front teeth had fallen out when I was eating a slice of toast and so I had a gap at the front of my mouth. Before visiting Ascent Dental Care, I wore dentures, but this meant I couldn’t enjoy singing in my choir as they kept moving. Since I found Ascent Dental Care and Faresh, I’ve never looked back and now have beautiful teeth.
