WELCOME TO ASCOT

Welcome to the 2024 Flat season at Ascot. Across our 17 fixtures (excluding the industry-owned QIPCO British Champions Day) we are delighted to be offering record prize money of £15 million, an increase of just over 4% on 2023.

The uplifts are spread across the programme, with Royal Ascot set to be run for more than £10 million and a minimum race value of £110,000. Other increases come as part of the Premier Racedays fixture structure, including on Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup day where your support is so appreciated to ensure full fields for the competition.

Importantly, we are not running any race for less than (they were worth) last year and no Flat race at Ascot will be run for less than £15,000. This is in spite of a reduction in central funding to the Core element of the programme, which has therefore required further increases in executive contribution.

We remain committed to the High Value Developmental Races programme supported by the BHA, EBF, Juddmonte, Darley and Tattersalls. We host five of those races this year, including the £50,000 Crocker Bulteel Stakes on QIPCO King George Day.

Last year, six of the world’s top ten racehorses (including ties) ran at Ascot, including Group 1 winners Mostahdaf, Big Rock, Hukum and Paddington. The highlight was the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth QIPCO Stakes as Hukum outbattled Westover in a thrilling finish. It was officially the best race run anywhere in Britain and Ireland last year as well as the second best in Europe and the fourth best in the world.

This year promises to be another exciting Flat season and we look forward to welcoming you back to Ascot in 2024.

Yours sincerely,

ROYAL ASCOT TRIALS DAY

Royal Ascot Trials Day provides the perfect opportunity for horses being prepared for the Royal Meeting in June. The seven-race card has four specific trials and in recent years the day has produced several horses that have gone on to win or be placed at Royal Ascot.

Prize money on the day will be £315,000 with the two Group 3 contests worth £80,000 and the Listed Paradise Stakes worth £60,000. The Darley British EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes is worth £40,000 and continues to form part of the High Value Maiden and Novice programme promoted and supported by the BHA and Darley.

The Group 3 Commonwealth Cup Trial proved its importance in the build up to Royal Ascot last year as Bradsell finished third before going on to win the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes, now renamed the King Charles III Stakes.

The Group 3 Longines Sagaro Stakes, a designated Gold Cup Trial, also proved to be a crucial race in 2023 with Coltrane winning before going on to finish second in the Gold Cup itself. The race has been won in previous years by Gold Cup contenders Stradivarius and Princess Zoe.

The Royal Ascot Two-Year-Old Trial EBF Conditions Stakes is once again FREE TO ENTER and will provide complimentary entry to the winner for one of the six twoyear-old races at Royal Ascot. In 2021 Chipotle demonstrated the benefit of course experience by winning this race and then the Windsor Castle Stakes. Last year, the winner Maximum Impact also took up his complimentary entry offer in the Windsor Castle Stakes while in 2022 Bakeel went on to run well in the Norfolk Stakes.

QIPCO KING GEORGE WEEKEND

QIPCO King George Day, Saturday 27th July, will be worth a record £1.79 million prize money in 2024. The King George VI & Queen Elizabeth QIPCO Stakes will be run for £1.25m and no race on the card will be run for less than £50,000. Last year, The King George itself was the best race run anywhere in Great Britain and Ireland while the Flexjet Pat Eddery Stakes proved to be one of the strongest two-year-old races of its kind run anywhere in Europe with the first six home all winning at Listed level or higher. That included Group 1 winners Rosallion, Ancient Wisdom and Sunway.

For the third year running our £25,000 stable bonus scheme will also be in place. The bonuses are paid out to the top three stables, split between the trainer and stable staff with the winners determined by points accumulated in each race throughout the day as follows.

Last year saw Roger Varian and Ralph Beckett tie for leading yard, both taking home £10,000 each.

DUBAI DUTY FREE SHERGAR CUP

The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup takes place on Saturday 10th August when the world’s top jockeys will once again compete in the unique team competition format.

The teams; Great Britain & Ireland, Europe, Ladies and Rest of the World – will be made up of three jockeys who are allocated to each horse as part of a draw. Last year we welcomed ten Group 1 winning jockeys from eight countries and it was fantastic to see Japanese star Kazuo Yokoyama win on Rogue Lightning.

• £525,000 in prize money is available

• Entry is free in to all races

• Fields sizes are capped at ten for each race

• Two reserves in each race

• Prize money is paid to tenth place with £500 for reserves that travel to the racecourse

A bonus payment of £25,000 to the leading stables is also up for grabs with points allocated as follows. Last year saw Andrew Balding take home £12,500, with one winner, two seconds and a fourth place on the day.
