WELCOME TO ASCOT Welcome to Royal Ascot 2022 which will offer a record £8,652,500 in prize money, an increase of £1,322,500 (18%) on 2019 values. Worth over £8.5m this year, a total of eight Group One races headline a race programme that features 22 Pattern or Listed level races. No race at Royal Ascot is run for less than £100,000 and all Group One prize money begins at £500,000.
Last year Stradivarius tried to equal Yeats’ fourtime Gold Cup success and although he was unsuccessful, the Gold Cup was the world’s highest rated stayers’ race, with Subjectivist, Princess Zoe, Spanish Mission and Stradivarius the top four home.
Once again, there will be seven races each day at Royal Ascot which will open with the Queen Anne Stakes, one of three Group One races on the Tuesday, which becomes the first £2 million race day at Royal Ascot.
We are delighted that the Royal Meeting will be participating in the Breeders’ Cup ‘Win & You’re In’ programme once again. This means the winners of the Queen Anne Stakes, King’s Stand Stakes, Prince of Wales’s Stakes and Norfolk Stakes all receive automatic starting positions and entry fees paid into their corresponding race at the Breeders’ Cup in November.
The Prince of Wales’s Stakes and the Platinum (formerly Diamond) Jubilee Stakes will become the first races at Royal Ascot to be run with a total prize fund of £1 million and no race at Royal Ascot will be run for less than £100,000. There are some minor changes to the Thursday and Friday order of running to provide a more balanced programme, where previously three handicaps concluded the cards.

Again, we are pleased to be hosting our annual Royal Ascot Winning Breeders’ Lunch on Friday, 22nd July, the first day of the King George Weekend at Ascot. We will be presenting the Winning Breeders’ mementoes
as well as staging the Royal Ascot 2022 Winning Breeders’ photograph. You will find much more information about the week in this brochure and on behalf of the whole team at Ascot, I wish you the very best for a successful and enjoyable 2022 Royal Meeting. Yours sincerely
Nick Smith Director of Racing & Public Affairs
