The Crowning Accessory to Royal Ascot Style. We are delighted to present the 2022 Royal Ascot Millinery Collective, in association with Fenwick, our Official Royal Ascot Millinery Sponsor.

Royal Ascot – Tuesday 14th to Saturday 18th June 2022 – is the highlight of the British summer season and this year Ascot worked with world-renowned photographer and fashion director Damian Foxe to capture the hats in a timeless and beautiful way – as seen in these images. The Collective was showcased in the stunning setting of the Rosewood London in Holborn where its palatial staircases and corridors provided a contemporary yet classically elegant feel. ITV Racing stylist Sarah Kate Byrne styled the millinery perfectly with a selection of fashion from Fenwick Bond Street, adding vintage pieces that are also available from their new in-store collection. As well as styling classic occasionwear looks, Sarah Kate demonstrated how to have fun and showcase your individual style. From styling a dress back to front, for a chic buttoned-up-the-back look, to using a waist tie as a neck scarf to complete a look in a slightly alternative way, these small touches show how one garment can be styled in multiple ways to offer a different look. The 12 looks comprise classic Royal Enclosure styles alongside inspiration for dressing in the Queen Anne Enclosure and Village Enclosure, where the Dress Code varies, as well as inspiration for the Windsor Enclosure where no formal Dress Code applies. Innovative millinery is the crowning accessory to the Royal Meeting each year and the Royal Ascot Millinery Collective, now in its seventh year, celebrates the truly spectacular ‘wearable art’ that milliners create to be worn again and again, or passed down through generations. The ongoing support from Fenwick strengthens the esteemed collection further, thanks to the exceptionally-curated designer fashion and world-class millinery for which this British institute is recognised – you can find all 12 designs stocked exclusively in their Bond Street store. STEPHEN JONES OBE R O Q U E BRU NE , £ 570

“A single veil is uniquely flattering to your face, imagine if you have twenty!” STEPHEN JONES OBE

For me this Stephen Jones hat was a nod to classical Ascot and ‘My Fair Lady’. The delicate layers together with this simple cream dress made for a stunningly simple and timeless ensemble which paired perfectly with vintage Dior ear clips.

“We are delighted to be part of the Royal Ascot Millinery Collective this year. Our giant rose hat is handmade with dip dyed pink ombré silk petals reminiscent of My Fair Lady. It is a bold and joyous piece created with 2022 in mind and celebrating the recommencing of many hat wearing events.” JOHN BOYD

Sarah Marshall of John Boyd showcases her incomparable petal making skills with this lilac hued, blousony flower atop a straw base. A standout piece of millinery that only needed a simple, complementary toned dress to let this majestic flower do the talking.

“Royal Ascot is the ultimate moment of expression of our craft. It is the reason we exist and survive! It’s also our greatest source of inspiration. Today hats are worn for ultimate moments in people's lives, and Royal Ascot is one of these moments.” PHILIP TREACY OBE

Pale, sherberty lemon petals on a straw base shot through with metallics make Philip Treacy’s contribution a simple but impactful piece of millinery. The textured wool dress in buttermilk and gold vintage earrings pick out the hats finer points perfectly.

M A G G I E M O W B R AY BE A , £ 1,62 5

“The iconic headband is always my go to style, but I wanted to create something more editorial while feeling luxurious. The band is reminiscent of the French Hood or Gable Hood but created in the style of the modern halo band. Embroidered with a diamanté lace to reflect the design of the matching veil. The veil can be worn as a stand-alone design or worn either in front of the headband or under, or not at all, allowing a multitude of looks.” MAGGIE MOWBRAY

PLEASE NOTE: Not suitable for the Royal Enclosure.

Maggie’s headband with diamanté veiling was a real show stealer when paired with a vintage Dolce & Gabbana bamboo pattern dress. This monochrome combination with a perfect red lip screams ‘look at me’ and needed no other accessories!

S ARAH CANT SY LVA BE LLE , £975

“‘Sylvabelle’ is an extension of my SS22 collection, ‘Riviera’, inspired by the colours and and textures of the Côte d’Azur, especially as it is portrayed in mid-century holiday adverts. The dramatic headpiece of ombré tulle and two-tone sinamay takes its name from the Plage de Sylvabelle, where the green land meets the Azur Sea, and the sun fringes everything in gold.” SARAH CANT

The kaleidoscopic colours and shape of Sarah Cant’s dramatic piece called for a dress pairing that could hold its own – something this Emilia Wickstead floral number with balloon sleeves and impeccable tailoring delivered in spades.

L I S A TA N J U BI LA NT, £ 1, 5 00

“With 2022 being an important year for Her Majesty The Queen, I could think of no better inspiration for my Royal Ascot Millinery Collective design. ‘Jubilant’ is a celebration of The Queen and her Platinum Jubilee milestone. This spiral-shaped headpiece features seven complete twists to represent the number of decades The Queen has ruled as our monarch and is handcrafted in platinum-coloured sinamay woven with lurex threads for a little extra sparkle. It floats above the head but is grounded by a base large enough to fulfil Royal Enclosure requirements. A special piece for a truly special year.” LISA TAN

The technical skill that went into making this tiered silver pagoda style piece by Lisa Tan deserved to steal the limelight, hence my pairing it with a stylish but understated linen striped set and elegant vintage drop earrings.

JESSICA COLLINS B OMBINI STUDIOS W HI M SI CA L FA NTA SY, £ 1, 8 0 0

“I am honoured to be a part of the Millinery Collective 2022, as this is my first time showcasing my bespoke wearable works of art for Royal Ascot. All my designs are completely ‘one of a kind’ . Your headpiece is tailor made to be as unique and individual as yourself, allowing you to be unapologetically you. I am thrilled to introduce you to my headpiece Whimsical Fantasy, eccentric yet beautifully inspired by nature and British woodlands, adorned with delicate blossoms, mushrooms and birds, finished with moss and dew drops making you a part of nature.” JESSICA COLLINS

This headpiece is as much art as it is headwear with each tiny feature — be it birds or toadstools, butterflies or flowers — all vying for attention. For full drama I thought this abstract, watercolour print would hold its own.

J U S T I N E B R A D L E Y- H I L L LUX V I NTAGE I NSPI R ED R I D I NG H AT, £ 1 ,495

“We are thrilled to be part of this year's Royal Ascot Millinery Collective. Our collective headpiece takes its inspiration from the glorious works of costume designer Walter Plunkett with an additional nod to the 1980s. The lux riding hat’s sharp angles are draped in hand died silk organza ruffles and ribbons. I think we have created a piece for the modern day quaintrelle, a piece of head candy for the brave and the bold.” JUSTINE BRADLEY-HILL

The ribbons festooned from Justine Bradley-Hill’s Victorian style bonnet paired with this sun coloured emsemble created a look reminiscent of flames and sunshine — captured here perfectly in motion, showcasing this distinctive look.

WILLIAM CHAMBERS SU PE R BO U Q U ET, £ 1,695

“Royal Ascot is all about celebration and fantasy, so I created this super-sized version of our popular floral bouquet hat, with leather orchids and a large silk rose in juicy raspberry tones. Celebrate with flowers!” WILLIAM CHAMBERS

William’s piece is an elaborate mix of crinoline, leather and fabric lending texture and dimension to this classically elegant side-sweeping hat in vivid pink. I paired it with a Vampire’s Wife floral dress, pink clutch and pearl hoops, keeping the hues delicate and feminine just like William’s creation.

VIVIEN SHERIFF HE R E CO M ES THE SU N, £ 2 ,495

“We are delighted to present our Royal Ascot Millinery Collective headpiece in celebration of the Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee. 9 carat gold leaf on a finely hand-woven base, an array of delictely burnished feathers in silver, platinum and gold; a truly spectacular platinum millinery salut!” VIVIEN SHERIFF

Vivien’s designs are instantly recognisable and the metallic feather points in her piece for the collective lent this hat drama which I knew this lamé dress and vintage pearl clips would complement perfectly.

E DW I N A I B B O T S O N W I LD GA LLO PI NG R OSE , £4 , 895

“My Wild Galloping Rose headpiece was designed as a celebration of femininity and beauty, a slight flight of fancy, where better to express one's self than your hat, especially your Royal Ascot hat. A mix of roses and butterflies fluttering in the breeze on a warm summer's day.” EDWINA IBBOTSON

The theatre of Edwina’s windswept confection demanded full appreciation so a simple pleated pant set in a complementary block colour was the perfect foil for this head-turning work of art.

VICTORIA GRANT PU R PLE R E I GN, £ 2 ,6 59

“‘Purple Reign’ has been designed in honour of Her Majesty The Queen and her Platinum Jubilee. Inspired by British heritage and celebrating time old traditions, I have created a specially tailored ‘ladies top hat’ in symbolic royal purple, with feather plumage, reminiscent of ceremonial dress, and topped off with a crown jewel and diamond veil.” VICTORIA GRANT

The rich jewel tone of Victoria’s incredible straw top hat finished with feather plumes and a diamanté brooch was a statement in itself so this high necked, slinky green and purple flecked dress made for a stunning complementary silhouette.
