18TH - 22ND JUNE 2024
WELCOME TO ROYAL ASCOT 2024
Welcome to Royal Ascot 2024.
Prize money at the Royal Meeting this year (18th-22nd June) will be worth a record £10 million with no race run for less than £110,000 (up from £100,000).
We are delighted to have renamed the King’s Stand Stakes as the King Charles III Stakes and the Group 1 five furlong sprint is sure to be one of the highlights of a £2.5 million opening day. The King Charles III Stakes will be worth £650,000 which is now the minimum for all Group 1 races (up from £600,000).
It is crucial for Royal Ascot to maintain its position on the global stage at a time when participants at home and abroad have so many alternative lucrative options away from Britain, and we hope these increases will be well received.
Last year two of the world’s top ten racehorses (including ties) won at Royal Ascot, headlined by Mostahdaf, the joint-best horse in Europe, in The Prince of Wales’s Stakes. That was one of five Royal Ascot races in the Longines World’s Top 100, but in order to maintain this quality we must continue to invest in our elite programme.
Following feedback from participants we have made the decision to move the Kensington Palace Stakes on the Wednesday to the Straight Mile and we hope this will provide a fairer contest with such a large field.
Moving in the other direction on the same day is the Group 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes which will provide the race with its own character on the Old Mile.
In 2023, we welcomed 23 international runners from five countries across four continents. They included Crimson Advocate, winner of the Queen Mary Stakes for the United States of America.
We look forward to welcoming many more of the world’s best this summer.
Yours sincerely,
Nick Smith LVO Director of Racing & Public AffairsCover: Shaquille wins the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot 2023
