Fellowship COMMON GROUND, UNCOMMON STORIES & PERSONAL STUFF

Why CKI? Circle K International offers members a variety of experiences to help them realize their leadership potential. Your involvement in CKI will have a significant impact on your campus, community, and the entire world. As a dedicated CKI member, you will develop lifelong friendships, establish a network of members from the entire Kiwanis family, and gain satisfaction knowing your leadership and service are making a positive impact on the world.

CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE Because of CKI's rich history of helping others, members of CKI share in the tradition of serving their campuses and communities. CKI members, by planning and participating in projects and activities, volunteer their time, talents, ideas, and skills for the purpose of making a long-lasting and far-reaching impact on their environment.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT By simply joining CKI, you stand out as a leader who plans to make a difference in the world. Through the CKI structure, every member also has the opportunity to develop leadership skills by serving as an officer or committee chairperson. Whether serving as a club project chair, district officer, or International Representative, each member has the opportunity to discover and develop talents and skills.

FRIENDSHIP Because CKI is organized on more than 500 college and university campuses around the world, members have the unique opportunity to become friends with college students from all walks of life. Attendance at divisional, district, and International conferences and conventions provides members a special chance to learn about diverse perspectives, make new friends, share ideas and concerns, and travel.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Involvement in CKI will allow college students to apply what they learn in the classroom to everyday situations. The skills that are developed and the opportunities experienced through CKI increase a student's marketability for employment after college. CKI's connection to Kiwanis promotes career networking between collegians and professionals as well.

President’s address

President Leslie is currently enrolled at the Antigua State college where she is studying under the science and technology department.

Good Day To all my fellow Circle K’ers I bring warm greetings from the Island of Sun, Sea and Sand - Antigua So you may ask, how did I get so involved and continue to participate in volunteer work? From a tender age, I had an interest in volunteering. I have a favourite childhood memory that I’d say has moulded me into a person of “CHANGE”. If your memory is as sharp as mine, you’d recall the old Disney programmes and shows. The best part of growing up in the early “2000”s, is that Disney wasn’t just cartoon oriented but had some wholesome shows such as “Pass the Plate” as well as “Motivational Quotes” . Even the advertisements taught you something. One of the programmes that has always stood out to me was the “Friends for Change - Project Green”. Friends for Change : Project Green is a pro-social "green" initiative that started in the summer of 2009. Disney stars ,such as my favourite Disney actors and actresses from Hannah Montana and Camp Rock, stressed environmental issues in the campaign and encouraged fans to take action. The year-long campaign capitalised on how Disney stars connect with young fans. I was so heartbroken when the programme was cancelled My fellow Circle K’ers, now is the

time to continue the legacy of change and continue our volunteering. I will always love the theme song for the ‘Project Green” because it has such a strong meaning in the lyrics which encouraged change. We've all got a gift Yeah, something to give To make a change Send it on, on and on Just one hand can heal another Be a part, reach a heart Just one spark starts a fire With one little action The chain reaction will never stop Make it strong Shine a light, and send it on And my favourite verse says: If we take the chances To change circumstances Imagine all we can do Can you imagine? Just imagine how the world would be if we all played our part to make it a better place. Circle K is a service club that encourages change with our motto of “Live to Serve, Love to Serve”. We are all so richly blessed with many different talents, whether it be with our hands or voices, or minds. We can’t hold back our special gifts given to us by God. We have to share with the world what He has given us.
