INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES BAMBINO GESÙ CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
2023
INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES | OPBG
The activity of Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital (OPBG) is based on the indispensable ethical principles of Catholic morality and the sacredness of life, in the awareness that it is always good, and on the ends of both spiritual and material charity. All this to respond to that wider mission that the Pope has entrusted to the Hospital: to support the poorest to build a world in which there is no longer an impassable gap between those who have so much and those who can treat themselves and those who cannot, fully implementing the teaching of Christ, to care for the sick and serve the sick, which constitutes

the mission on which the entire activity of OPBG is based. In this context, solidarity is one of the core values of OPBG Code of Ethics and is intended as an orientation, also through national and international collaborations, to actions that bring the services of the Hospital to the weakest and least fortunate patients. Inspired by this value, the Hospital is the protagonist of international cooperation initiatives to ensure the primary need for scientific medical training as well as to offer local communities high-qualified or complex services that characterize the Hospital.

PROJECTS SELECTION CRITERIA AND TYPES OF ASSISTANCE Most of the requests for help reach the Bambino Gesù Hospital through: apostolic nunciatures; embassies to the Holy See; congregations and catholic missionary associations.
All ongoing projects are based on Memorandum of Understanding signed with governments or health institutions of various states or even international humanitarian organizations.
Projects shall be based on specific agreements and shall normally include: e-learning sessions; telemedicine sessions; on-the-job training periods, carried out by OPBG teams in partner hospitals; periods of residential training in Rome for local medical and nursing staff.
Projects of low complexity This type of collaboration concerns the poorest countries, where training needs require starting from areas of low complexity. Medium-high complexity projects and research In this case, the foundation of the hospitals we work with allows us to raise the level of training and to act on more complex areas and to develop together also scientific research programs.
