One Identity, One ASEAN Youth Community

DAY 2: COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM

Who are we? The ASEAN Youth Advocates Network, also known as AYAN, is a youth-led and non-profit volunteer organization that paves the way for the ASEAN youth to experience ASEAN socio-civic involvement while exploring one ASEAN identity. The ASEAN Youth Advocates Network activities are strengthened by four fundamental pillars. The first is the Global Citizenship Education Pillar, which aims to educate society, particularly through the Sustainable Development Goals, as they become active participants in the community and nation-building processes. Second, the Democratic Engagement Pillar highlights the need of educating individuals about their rights and empowering them to put democratic ideas represented in the ASEAN area into reality. The third pillar is the Climate Alliance, which encourages citizens to to join hands in fighting climate change. Lastly is the Community and Wellbeing Pillar where member advocates and organizations are guided as they create projects centered on building progressive human-centered communities.

ASEAN YOUTH WEEK 2022 The ASEAN Youth Week (AYW) 2022 is the second of the annual series of celebrating the ASEAN community through a week of advocacy-based initiatives. The event will be spearheaded by the ASEAN Youth Advocates Network (AYAN) this August 6, 2022 - to August 13, 2022. The ASEAN Youth Week holds projects and programs revolving around our 4 core pillars (democratic engagement, global citizenship education, climate alliance, community building and well-being) for the ten (10) Southeast Asian countries.

Community Outreach Program After the Opening Ceremony of the AYW 2022, AYAN aims to facilitate other physical activities that are focused on one of its pillars, community well being. This involves the launch of the Community Library/Community Outreach Program, and a short program consisting of book reading, gift giving and community lunch. These activities are in continuation with AYAN’s involvement in the Department of Education’s Brigada Pabasa, a campaign that aims to help Filipino children to become functionally literate. The event will be held on August 7, 2022 at Brgy. San Jose, Calamba City, Laguna. This consists of the launch of a community library, a small program for the beneficiaries including book reading, interactive games, and gift giving.

EVENT OBJECTIVES 1. To motivate the youth in joining community-based programs as we gather volunteers to organize and join the event physically. 2. To encourage donation of books and other learning resources and collect a substantial number of in-kind educational materials. 3. To address the issue of illiteracy and learning loss among children and facilitate a meaningful and sustainable outreach program in response to SDG 4 Quality Education
