Dear Members, Allow us to be the first to welcome you to the 49th General Assembly (GA), hosted by World Trade Center (WTC) Leeuwarden, in the spectacular setting of the Northern Netherlands. We are both incredibly excited about this year’s program. While every GA is an opportunity for our Members to get together, network, collaborate and engage,

Scott Ferguson Chief Executive Officer
Dear Companies, Colleagues and friends, World Trade Center Leeuwarden is very proud to be the host of the 49th General Assembly. We especially look forward to welcoming you during this landmark year for our city, as Leeuwarden holds the designation of European Capital of Culture for 2018. This year’s General Assembly program will be a change from previous years. In close cooperation with the World Trade Centers Association, we have chosen to focus on business development and to put our credo into practice: CONNECTING THE BUSINESS WORLD. The Dutch northern region is strong in the areas of water, agriculture, energy, and health -- topics we all care about. And we are eager to share our knowledge with you. By exchanging knowledge and making meaningful connections over the next three days, we will strengthen the cooperation among our offices and our member companies. For cooperation you need trust, which is why we chose that word to be our theme this year, Trust: The Core of International Business.  Special thanks to our sponsors, our local Governments, my team, the WTCA, the WTC Netherlands Alliance and to you all. By participating, you acknowledge the importance of our unique network, our WTC family. Together we will make this an unforgettable General Assembly!

CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENERGY-EFFICIENT ENTREPRENEURSHIP HOW CAN YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE ‘GLOBAL CHALLENGE’ OF THE ENERGY TRANSITION AND SAVE A LOT ON YOUR ENERGY COSTS AS AN ENTREPRENEUR OR WTC OPERATOR? THIS IS THE TOPIC OF THE SUSTAINABLE INVESTING AND FINANCING OF REAL ESTATE WORKSHOP DURING INTERNATIONAL TRADE DAY AT WTC LEEUWARDEN ON 23 APRIL. SPEAKERS OF THE WORKSHOP ARE BART-JAN FRERIKS, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF ENGIE SERVICES AND ROELIEN VAN ECK, DIRECTOR OF REAL ESTATE & FACILITY MANAGEMENT AT ABN AMRO. “THE SOLUTIONS ARE LOCALLY UP FOR GRABS”, SAYS FRERIKS. “YOU JUST HAVE TO WANT IT; IT IS THE QUESTION OF DOING IT.” Participants of the workshop will be introduced to various ‘best practices’ for applying

BUNDLING OF FORCE It is not surprising that Freriks has many ideas about how organizations can tackle the ‘global challenge’. Since March 2016, ENGIE Services and ENGIE Energy have been working together as ENGIE Netherlands. The joining of forces has created a beautiful combination of knowledge and expertise in the field of sustainability, technology and digitalization. ENGIE uses this to help customers take the step from a fossil energy system to a sustainable energy system. In addition, the company is not only trying to pursue 100% of the Paris climate agreement itself, but also has set itself the goal of being fully carbon-neutral by 2030.
