MODULAR TOWER BOSTON, MA

This eco-friendly modular tower was designed as a concept to come up with an aesthetically pleasing form that would produce as little waste as possible, given a certain amount of material, when laser cut. The process started by first picking a single shape that would be configured to 1/4� acrylic plastic, in this case, a hexagon fit best with the given space of the material. The next step was establishing a series of algorithms within Rhino and Grasshopper, to then create the tower’s geometry, have it offer green space along the terraces and locate it within a city.

DECORDOVA ARTIST SCHOOL LINCOLN, MA

When roaming about the grounds of the museum one really experiences this relationship of ground and sky. This relationship would become the foundation to my design of the deCordova School of Art; a connection between ground and sky, and through that would be the notion of absorption as it pertains to ground and the notion of reflection as it pertains to sky. This idea of absorption and reflection does not simply speak about the language of building, but the language of the space; whether it is the absorption of knowledge within the classroom and applying that knowledge to create a piece of work, whether it is the reflection of the final product in the gallery spaces, or whether it is the reflection of life and design in the living spaces.

CULINARY ARTS SCHOOL SOUTH END, BOSTON, MA

The concept for this project comes from the inspiration gained during the beginning phases of site analysis. During this time I gained a great sense of community due to how diverse the area was in all regards from the ages of its occupants, restaurants, public gardens, and many other aspects that I felt are necessary to have a great community. This idea of community was really the driving force of my project in regards to how I wanted to open up the main floors of the street level and parking lot level to create a connection from building to its surrounding community. Other characteristics include the teaching kitchen extruding from the faรงade of my building and opening up to the street to also gain this sense of reaching out to the community and the opening up of the building behind the Haley House to create a connection from Montgomery street to Dartmouth street that can also act as a place for people to gather.

JAMAICA PLAIN REDEVELOPMENT JAMAICA PLAIN, BOSTON, MA

The concept for this community design project can be summed up by the word, balance. It is the balance between urban and nature, city and community, public and private, and hardscapes and softscapes. Located on the northern side of the site, towards Jackson Square, serves as more of the typical urban environment with hardscapes and squares that serve as social spaces with retail shops, restaurants, bars, cafes, offices, museums, galleries and residential housing that relates back to the city. Located on the southern side of the site, towards Stony Brook, serves as more of a natural type of environment with more green spaces and parks, along with a community center, daycare, and other program that relates back to the community. To address the existing tracks, a green corridor was designed to serve as a pedestrian path and noise buffer. Some of the characteristics of the green corridor includes ponds and open green spaces for recreational activities.

ISTANBUL INTERVENTION ISTANBUL, TURKEY

The concept for the project is to redefine the han and the urban street to create a connection between these two worlds. Currently these two elements remain quite separate from each other even though they depend on one another for survival. In order to achieve the goal of bringing the life of the han to the street and the life of the street to the han, I began to make connections and penetrations from one element to the other. These connections begin to offer new programmatic opportunities such as spaces for exhibition and education. With the introduction of exhibition spaces, this allows for the han to display the manufactured goods that creates it’s identity and allows for an internal world to be expressed on the exterior fabric towards the urban street. Then with the introduction of educational spaces that rise up above the fabric, this allows for the education of particular crafts to continue to passed down from generation to generation.
