Bright Minds, Glowing Faces. Summer University is pleased to provide a full summer of classes designed to foster academic growth, stimulate your child’s imagination, pique curiosity, and encourage creativity through over 130 classes. This summer, campers from 3 years old through adult will have the opportunity to register for classes covering a multitude of interests, including the three A’s: academics, arts, and athletics. Classes are led by skilled, dedicated teachers who know their subject matter and are eager to share their knowledge. From reading to math and study skills to essay writing; from baseball to wrestling and art to video game design, students are bound to find a class that will be informative, entertaining, and inspiring.

Morning and afternoon care: Summer University is excited to offer a morning

and afternoon program for students of working parents. Our before school program will run from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Students will be fed a nutritious cold breakfast at 8:15. Breakfast will include cereal, fruit, milk, and juice. Students may also register for our afternoon program which will run from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Students who are part of our afternoon program will receive a light snack at 3:30 p.m.. They will participate in off-campus field trips every Tuesday and Thursday. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday students will participate in various on-campus activities. Students must be registered for these programs (morning, afternoon, or both) in advance in order to attend. Registration is on a weekly basis, so you can take advantage of it when needed! Prices for the morning and afternoon programs are: $50/week for morning care $150/week for afternoon care Week of July 1-3 (three days only) $30/week for morning care $90/week for afternoon care See pages 38-39 for details regarding registration, locations, and confirmation of classes.

“Goooooaaaal!” Whether your camper is a beginner who wants to learn the basic tactics of the game or a high-level youth player looking to refine technical skills, he or she should join Saints’ Varsity Coach, Gilbert Richardson, this summer. Players will be coached in small groups tailored to each camper’s age and ability. Each player should bring a soccer ball, soccer shoes, shin guards, and a water bottle.

Week One June 3-7 DIY Girl Style Debbie Burr Bass Middle School, Room 207 Grades 7-8 Mon.-Fri., 9:00-11:15 a.m. $150

Come have fun with the girls! We’ll get creative and make different DIY crafts to use and wear! Students will learn about cooking, make some wonderful recipes, and enjoy the fruits of their labor. We’ll also learn basic beauty essentials and participate in a philanthropic project Friday to share what we’ve learned. Join us for a girls’ week out!

Venture into the Rainforest Missy Carson Moncrief Lower School, Room 131 Ages 3 – K Mon.-Fri., 9:00-11:15 a.m. $150

Let’s look into the magnificent world of the rainforest. We’ll learn about the rainforest, including the plants and animals that depend on each other to sustain this ecosystem. Find out where rainforests are located and why they are so important to our world. Did you know that some of our favorite treats, such as chocolate, come from plants grown in the rainforest? Yum! Come learn these and many other interesting facts about this incredible ecosystem!

Ready to score some field hockey fun? Join Saints’ Varsity Field Hockey Coach, Dana Weaver, to learn basic techniques, defending and goal-scoring skills, tactical awareness, and much more. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player, you’ll learn new skills and improve upon existing ones. Sticks will be provided to any camper needing one.

Let’s play ball! This baseball camp is designed for boys from the beginning level of baseball through more experienced players. Whether you’ve played t-ball, coach pitch, kid pitch or no baseball at all, this is the camp for you! Learn proper techniques for pitching, catching, and hitting. Work on your running speed and proper and safe ways to slide and steal base. If you want to learn to play baseball or improve on existing skills, you’ll want to sign up for this camp. Don’t strike out! Make a run for this camp!

Calling future Student Council Officers, Club Presidents, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and anyone interested in learning how to be an effective leader! This fun, dynamic class will introduce students to understanding leadership, the definition of leadership, the characteristics of a leader, and the roles of a leader and role model. With the help of Carolyn Brooks - author, entrepreneur, leader, and personal life coach - students will learn about communication, organization, self-awareness, vision, and trustworthiness. Everyday Leadership Situations present students with “What Would You Do” situations to help reinforce the topics covered in class this week.

That’s what little girls are made of! Don’t miss the chance to do everything girly this week. From literature to arts and crafts, cooking to tea parties, and dolls to dresses, campers will explore what it means to be young ladies. Join Debbie Burr for a fun-filled week of exploration and activities, all for little girls!

Ready, Set, Action! James Venhaus Mon.-Fri., 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Grades 2-6 Simpson Upper School, Room E201 $300 (minimum 6 students)

This class is a touch of Spain, classic art, and literature. Students will learn why Francisco de Goya was mad at the Royal Family, why El Greco painted elongated figures in his paintings and why he was considered the “Master of the Master.” They’ll learn who wrote Don Quixote and why he was the person he was. Expand your student’s knowledge about renowned classic and contemporary Spanish artists in a fun, relaxed, nurturing environment. This class will be taught mainly in Spanish with some English.

CALLING ALL ACTORS! This is the ideal summer destination for those students who love to PERFORM! Come join our company of young performers where everyone gets a role. Students will learn to design their own props, costumes and scenery as well as learn how to act on the stage. The camp culminates in a show on stage in McNair Theatre. Students will need to bring a sack lunch from home.

Equestrian Camp Benbrook Stables Mon.-Fri., 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Grades 1-4 $250

Spend the week at Benbrook Stables riding horses. Students will experience riding Western, English, and bareback. They’ll also learn horsemanship, nutrition, grooming, anatomy, and more! Students will go on hayrides, trail rides, wash horses, and participate in lots of fun activities! This camp is designed for the novice to the experienced rider. Campers need to provide their own transportation to and from Benbrook Stables. Wear comfortable shorts, a t-shirt, and tennis shoes. Don’t forget your lunch and a water bottle!

Cooking 101 Cookie McCormick Moncrief Lower School Dining Hall Mon.-Fri., 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Grades 7-12 $175

What does it take to plan, shop, and prepare a meal? Find out this week with our own Dining Services Manager, Cookie McCormick. Students will learn to plan, budget, shop, and prepare a five course meal. Once a meal is planned, students will go to a local grocery store and learn to shop on a budget. They’ll learn the difference between slicing and dicing, baking and broiling, and other valuable cooking techniques. Students will also learn about safe food handling. At the end of the week, students will sit down and share their meal together. Let your inner chef out and learn how to cook for yourself and others!

College Essay Writing Stephanie Wooten Simpson Upper School, Room S204 Mon.-Fri., 12:00-2:00 p.m. Grade 12 $200 (minimum 5 students)

Take some of the worry out of the college application process by participating in this week-long class. Stephanie Wooten, our Upper School Speech, English IV, and English IV Honors teacher, will guide students through the process of writing a thoughtful, articulate, and thorough college essay to attach to college applications this fall. This course is a special offering for incoming 8th grade students at All Saints’ who did not take Spanish 1a in Kelsey De La Torre 7th grade. Upon successful completion of this 4 1/2 Bass Middle School, Room 201 June 3 –July 3, 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. week Spanish intensive AND with the approval of the Spanish Department Chair and Middle School Division Grade 8 Head, your student will be enrolled in Spanish 1b $750 (minimum 6 students) in 8th grade, giving him or her the opportunity to be considered for placement in Spanish 2 or Spanish 2 Honors in the Upper School. Students are allowed up to two absences. Students will also need to bring a lunch.

Guitar For Beginners Kate Hearne Moncrief Lower School, Room 129 Mon.-Fri., 9:00-11:15a.m. Grades K-3 $120

Attend a creative writing workshop with a teacher who used to be the editor of several literary magazines that published short stories and poetry. Learn many of the styles and techniques of publishable writing. The class will focus on the styles (poetry, short stories, and novels) the students wish to focus. The class will be in a workshop setting, with peer editing and critiquing, and will help students become better creative writers, focused on getting published someday. Bring your pencils and imaginations and learn what it takes to publish writing!

Have you ever wanted to learn to play the guitar? This week, Kate Hearne will teach students the basics, including how to properly hold a guitar and pick, scales, chords, and a few basic songs. Students will focus on proper finger placement and strumming. You’re never too young or old to learn how to play. So sign up and “let’s make music!”

Have you ever wanted to learn Martial Arts? Join Robert Visitacion, former United States Kickboxing Champion and owner of V-Fit Martial Arts, for a week of Martial Arts training. Students will learn the basics of Tae Kwon Do and fitness kickboxing while also improving self-esteem, strength, endurance, and flexibility. Train safely and build confidence while learning how to jab, kick, and block in this highly disciplined, yet exciting and fun class! Tuition includes a uniform for all students.

Football

Come be a part of the winning tradition of the All Saints’ football program. Campers will learn the fundamentals of football with Saints’ Head Varsity Football Coach, Aaron Beck, his talented staff, and many of our Upper School football players. This fun, non-contact football program offers campers a chance to learn and enhance their skills in a positive, team atmosphere. Players will be grouped by grades: 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8. The younger campers will participate in flag football as well. In this camp, sportsmanship and character are emphasized at every opportunity, helping to create a true athlete.

Softball

It’s time for some good old softball! Campers will learn to field, throw, and catch with proper technique, and will also learn to hit, bunt, and slap. This camp will help your young softball player to advance her defensive and offensive skills. Base running skills and strategies will be taught as well. Campers will also be taught the basics of pitching.

This week-long class will dive into the relationships of points, lines, surfaces, and solids. Students will investigate, build, and navigate their way through triangles, quadrilaterals, circles, prisms, and spheres. Mark Cox Participants should leave this class with a basic Simpson Upper School, Room E106 foundation into the fundamental properties of high Mon.-Fri., 9:00-11:15a.m. school Geometry. This class is perfect for those students Grades 9-12 who want to better prepare themselves and to feel more $200 (minimum 5 students) comfortable going into Geometry or a similar class.

Go on an adventure and explore five different continents. Students will learn about the lifestyles, cultures, and customs of certain countries. They’ll also learn about the foods they eat and how their life is different from ours. So pack a bag for an exciting journey!

How does cooking help you learn Spanish? Spend a week with Señora Bustamante reading, cooking, and learning Spanish. Campers will expand their vocabulary through cooking frijoles and garbonzo beans, and making chalupas, tacos, and salsa. Nouns and verbs never tasted so good! What better way to learn Spanish than through your stomach! Bring your aprons and appetite for knowledge and delicious food! Do you love playing the guitar and have at least one year of instruction? Join Kate Hearne as she teaches you new skills and techniques to improve playing. Students will learn various scales, chords, strumming techniques and finger picking patterns. Take playing to a whole new level this week.

This fun and exciting girls’ basketball camp will teach offensive and defensive skills to those who want to improve their game. Skills such as shooting, ball handling, passing and dribbling, proper defensive footwork, and rebounding will be taught. This camp will be geared toward helping girls improve their basketball skills and also their knowledge of the game. Come and learn the basics of the oldest sport in the world! It’s a great introduction to wrestling. Students are sure to have lots of fun in this camp run by the All Saints’ Wrestling Coach, David Gaul, and varsity wrestlers. Ready, set, wrestle!

Lights! Camera! Action! In this exciting camp, budding filmmakers learn everything about movie making in front and behind the camera. Campers will write a screenplay, create storyboards and shoot, and act and edit a short film. The camp culminates in a special screening of the movies on the big screen of the McNair Theatre. Once again, USA Chess is offering a fun and entertaining chess camp at All Saints’. Campers ages 5-16, from beginners to advanced players, are all welcome. USA Chess is the largest, premier chess camp for children in the nation, and their staff includes some of the finest children’s chess instructors in the U.S. Registration options include this morning session, an afternoon session, or both. Whether they are interested in casual or competitive chess, campers will experience instruction and game in a fun-filled environment designed to improve their skills.

Love playing video games? In this exciting class, campers actually program their own video games! Using stateof-the-art computers and expert instruction, campers will start with basic commands and, in a step-by-step progression, the games come to life. In this class each level of the game is programmed on a single screen. All that’s required is some computer know-how and a bit of imagination – because there truly are no limits. Interested in making a story come alive on the computer? Campers are introduced to programming by creating short computer animated movies with a focus to challenge their creativity and imaginations. They will create animated stories using the Scratch animated programming tool which allows them to program interactions between characters. They will use a gallery of 3D characters, scenery and custom animations that are designed to help develop their story. They will also learn basic programming skills and have the opportunity to broaden their imagination.


Get Moving and Cooking! Maria Balogh and Charlotte Stouffer Ballet Building and Moncrief Lower School, Room 131 Mon.-Fri., 9:00-11:15 a.m. Ages 3-K $150

This two-part class features music, movement, and measuring. The beginning of class will have campers measuring, counting, and making sweet and savory treats. This is a great way for younger students to work on their gross and fine motor skills while having fun! They’ll even create a cookbook to share with family and friends at the end of the week! In the second half of the class campers will explore movement through music, develop physical skills, stimulate imagination, and promote creativity with Mrs. Maria. It’s the best of all worlds – so get moving and cooking!

How about some land rover excitement? Build and take home your very own all-terrain tracker vehicle! It travels the rough terrain overcoming objects in its path. Sciensational Workshops will bring its own course for you to conquer. Sand, stones, twigs, and balls will all be part of the challenge. How about a timed race? You’ll also learn about gears. Work with other campers to design a robot you can control. Loads of fun and education are in store for you with this class!

The mission of this camp is to provide a results-driven skills program with the training focused on ball handling, shooting, footwork, passing, and fundamental basketball concepts. The trainers will emphasize the proper execution of the fundamentals and movements necessary to become a successful basketball player. Campers will be taught the most current, progressive, innovative, and creative drills to enhance their development. So if you’re a beginner or experienced, this camp is for you!

Golf Anyone? Jim Osborne Hawks Creek Golf Course Mon.-Fri. 9:00-11:15 a.m. Grades 3-5, boys and girls Mon.-Fri. 11:45 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Grades 6-8, boys and girls $150

Come learn the fundamentals of golf from the teaching pros at Hawks Creek and the All Saints’ golf coaches. Campers will work on all aspects of the game from the tee to the green. Bring your clubs if you have them if not, clubs will be provided. Don’t forget a water bottle! Campers will need to provide their own transportation to and from Hawks Creek Golf Club at 6520 White Settlement Road.

Video Game Creation: The Sequel teaches campers how to create an introductory game where the game’s character walks, jumps, and progresses along a scrolling screen encountering other objects and enemies along the way. Using state-of-the-art computers and expert instruction, campers will learn step-by-step progression to make their games come to life. Lessons on the basics will be similar to the Intro course in the very beginning, but the class diverges and different programming techniques are taught in order to build this Platform game. A student can take both the Intro and the Sequel in the same week to make a full day camp. Your imagination is the limit in this class!


Mobile Phone Application There’s an app for that! Campers use Gamemaker Studio, a new program from YoYo games, to build a game in the Game Builder Active Learning Services Mon.-Fri., 11:30a.m.-2:00 p.m. Ages 9-16 Moncrief Lower School, Room 130 *Register at www.activelearningcamps.com

style of “Doodle Jump” that can be played on a mobile device. The game will be created on an Android tablet, but instructions will be provided on how to run the game on an Apple IOS device. (Apple may charge additional fees for use of its Operating System development). While no previous Gamemaker experience is required, programming is a bit tougher than in our introductory courses. Let’s Cut a Rug… and Some Paper

This two-part class is a combination of movement and imagination. In the first half of the class, campers will work with Maria Balogh to explore movement through Maria Balogh and Charlotte Stouffer music, develop physical skills, stimulate imagination, Ballet Building and Moncrief and promote creativity. The second half of the class will Lower School, Room 131 have campers developing fine motor skills with Charlotte Mon.-Fri., 11:45 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Stouffer. Here, campers will learn and practice lacing, Ages 3-K cutting, coloring, sculpting, and painting. $150

Do buried treasures interest you? Campers will discover Sciensational Workshops for Kids, Inc. the amazing science of Archaeology as they uncover Moncrief Lower School, Room 123 ancient artifacts while excavating with tools that a real archaeologist uses. In this study of Egypt, campers will Mon.-Fri. 11:45 a.m.-2:00 p.m. uncover a scarab, hieroglyphic tablet, ankh symbol, Grades K-5 and a jackal. The artifacts are yours to keep! You’ll $175 (minimum 9 students) also be creating sand sculptures, such as a pyramid or a sphinx. So join us for a week of hands-on archaeological experiences!

Bring your favorite American Girl doll with you to this all-American, always popular, and always fun American Girl class! Campers will celebrate the uniqueness of the different dolls and their stories. They will learn crafts, fashion, and history through these wonderful stories and dolls. In addition, campers will travel to the Dallas Galleria to visit the American Girl store on Friday.

Prepare to learn the sport of fencing, one of the original Olympic sports! In this class, campers will learn fundamental fencing skills such as blade work and footwork. Campers will be introduced to fencing related games and conditioning exercises. They’ll also use fencing equipment that has been used by many elite athletes. This camp will be taught by Michael Kim, Director of Lone Star Fencing Center and Head Fencing Coach at St. Mark’s School of Texas and Hockaday School of Dallas. Coach Kim has also coached many U.S. National medalists. Do butterflies, ants, flowers, trees, and birds interest you? Campers will learn about the life cycles of plants, insects, and animals that inhabit the All Saints’ Kelly Dillard Butterfly Garden. Each day, campers will focus on a new cycle and participate in activities such as planting seeds, observing organisms in their natural environment, art projects, and of course snacks! Each activity will relate directly to the cycle studied that day. Campers will participate in group discussions and the reenactment of cycles using music and/or books. As a home study tool, students will have access to SAT online practice resources through Revolution Prep.

Spend the week at Benbrook Stables riding horses. Students will experience riding Western, English, and bareback and will also learn horsemanship, nutrition, grooming, anatomy, and more! We will go on hayrides, trail rides, wash horses, and participate in lots of fun activities! This camp is designed for the novice to the experienced rider. Details Registration: Registration begins April 4, 2013. Registrations received after May 15, 2013 will have an additional late fee of $25 per session. Registration will be taken up to one calendar week before a class’s start date. This allows our teachers to properly prepare for their class. Please do not email or fax registration forms. Please note that 3-4 year olds must be potty trained in order to attend a class.

Confirmations: Confirmation of classes will be emailed; therefore, please ensure that your email is written neatly on the registration form. Confirmations will only be made once a student is fully registered. In order to be fully registered and ensure a seat for your child, you must submit a completed registration form, signed release of liability, and full payment.

Class sizes: A minimum of five students is required for a class to “make,” unless otherwise indicated. If the enrollment for the class does not reach the minimum number, you will be notified of the cancellation via email. If a class is cancelled due to lack of enrollment, a full refund will be given for that class.

Refunds: Each class has a separate cost and schedule, as listed in the catalog. Full tuition is required at the time of registration. Fees may be paid by cash, check (made payable to All Saints’ Episcopal School), Visa, or Mastercard. Class confirmation will be sent shortly after your registration is received. If you need to cancel a class prior to one week of the start date, a $50 cancellation fee will be charged for each class cancelled and the remainder of your tuition will be refunded. Within one week of a class, there will be no refunds given. Cancellations must be made in writing, through mail, fax, or email. However, if the class is cancelled due to lack of enrollment, you will receive a 100% refund of your tuition for that class.

Student Conduct: Students are expected to be kind, considerate, and respectful of both their peers and teachers. Disruptive behavior will be handled first by the teacher and then by the Director of Summer Programs as needed. Continued disruptive behavior may cause a student to be permanently removed from the class without a refund.

Lunch: If your child will be attending both a morning and afternoon class (or 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. class), please make sure he/she brings a sack lunch from home. Students will eat a supervised lunch in the Moncrief Lower School Dining Hall from 11:15 – 11:45 a.m.

Locations: Classes will be located on the All Saints’ campus at 9700 Saints’ Circle, Fort Worth, TX 76108. They will take place in the Moncrief Lower School, Bass Middle School, and Simpson Upper School. Sports camps will take place at the Martin Gymnasium, Varsity Gymnasium, and various sports fields. Please check the catalog for the location of your class. Maps are included to help you navigate our campus.
