This class will focus on a study of the Old Testament. The Old Testament is filled with drama (even scandal!) and yet somehow, God keeps working it out for His faithful people. The Bible, even the Old Testament, is your story, so come explore it. Students will experience learning through videos, guest speakers, and field trips, with fewer quizzes and a chance to delve into the stories they want to read.

Web 2.0 (class for credit and required for graduation) Kimberly Moore In-class Instruction: June 5-9, 1:00-4:00 p.m. Grade 10 $895

Students will explore, analyze and reflect upon applications for online bookmarking, blogging, podcasting, vodcasting, collaborating, organizing and sharing. We will also discuss digital citizenship and how student choices on the computer affect them and the world around them.

The New Testament is a collection of 27 books written within 70 years after Jesus’ death and resurrection. Jesus, and the books written about him, has deeply impacted the history of the Western world. This class will look broadly at some of the literature in these 27 books and narrowly at Jesus’ life and ministry. Because these books primarily focus their attention on one of history’s most impactful people, we will spend time looking at who Jesus was as a first century Jewish prophet. We will be asking historical, religious, and personal questions as we spend time learning about the world of Jesus and the early Church.

Through the Socratic method of instruction, students are encouraged to formally develop their ethical system. This includes, but is not limited to, formally stating their world-view, understanding of human nature, and understanding of how God communicates. Students will articulate their personal ethical system within the context of a rigorous examination of the classical ethical system and their contemporary representations.

Classical Mythology (class for credit) Dr. John Meny In-class Instruction: M-F, July 10-28, 1:00-3:00 p.m. Grades 10-12 $895

This course will focus first on the twelve Olympian gods of Greek and Roman mythology, including their historical background, religious ceremonies, and depiction in art, as well as their stories. Then we will turn to the main hero cycles of the ancient world. In the second part of the course, students will choose a particular god or hero cycle for a research or art project, which will take the place of the final examination. In the past, students have done projects ranging from historical and archaeological research to visual art, poetry, plays, and even movies.

Biblical Theology (class for credit and required for graduation) David Parks In-class Instruction: M/W, June 12-23, 12:30-2:30 p.m. Grade 11 $895

What do Christians believe? How did the major tenets of the Christian Religion develop? In this class, we will look at the historical development of Christian theology from its Jewish roots to its Roman influence to its modern expression. Although we will look at how Christians talk about God, creation, Jesus, salvation, humanity, and the future, students will be encouraged to think about how they understand the Christian faith. In the end, students will write a credo, outlining their personal convictions as they continue to critically reflect on some of the most profound questions of human history.
