ABOUT Title: Jöe [you] Type: Shortfilm Genre: Psychological Thriller Method: Stop-motion animation Target audience: 14+ Topic: Internal investigation Length: 5 min
This is the Story of JÖE a Soul encapsulated by a body of metal wires, tormented by conflicts, regrets and lost chances. Trapped in an infinite tunnel with drawers containing memories from his life, he opens each drawer to find some that provide relief. Eating joyful memories provide him with a short lived sensation of joy, but then both memory and joy dissolve again. In a last desperate attempt Jöe finds a drawer with seemingly no content except for a bullet in its cartridge. Determined to end his life, Jöe seeks to no avail for a matching firearm for the bullet. At the bottom of his pain and misery, Jöe sits on the floor scratching a little hole. In a surrendered gesture he tosses the bullet, and out bursts a lush plant. Surprised Jöe grabs on and is propelled into the sky along with the growing plant. He reaches the blooming flower and is mesmerized by its glow, inside the bullet is pointed straight at him. Mid air Jöe is shot and shredded to pieces, light beams out of him, animals and vegetation are released in a euphoric stream of psychedelic art. A naked secure and powerful being of light appears. CHARACTER DESIGN
Jöe is a desperate demon that has appeared in a human mind. On the quest to understand where he is and what his purpose is, he creates so much destruction to his host that it can only be reversed by his own death. In his environment he has infinite amounts of drawers filled with past memories and experiences, that hint at some life outside of the dark tunnel he is in. Example of a potent memory: “A happy child at a beach with his mother.” Devouring the memories gives Jöe a kick of energy, but to his despair the kicks are short lived and it is hard for him to find any deeper meaning in the memory. The more memories he eats, the smaller the kicks become, and Jöe needs something stronger to soften his pain. Jöes armor of tangled wires conceal beauty and light that is released upon his death.

Concept art for Jรถe, 2018 by Mads Ahm 11
Meet the director of Jöe Name: Andres Leal. Born: 21.09.1988 Place: San Francisco, ZU. Venezuela. Live: Flensburg. Germany.
Human, Illustrator, Musician, Painter, Writer, Tattooer, Graphic Designer. What is your background and motivation for this film? I had to choose to work or to study, I chose to study and never had a regret with the choice i made. For me therés always been a way to achieve my goals. Let’s say i used my superpower. I´ve always hated those kids who didn’t have move a muscle to get things. I grew up in such a twisted economic/political system that is hard to be called a “society” so corrupt that makes it almost impossible to see a way out of it. Filled with All those people, that doesn’t care about anyone but themselves, thatthose ones can domake bad things and just walk away. PeopleThose who think that they are right and approve whatever the system decide. Those who don’t question themselves and their actions. Those who live with the fear on what other people would think or say about them if they change. Those who live in circle of stupidity. Those whose mind are trapped in a box so secured that maybe needs a bullet to be opened. This idea or the first rough script was written by myself and a good friend of mine for a project in the University back in 2010. We couldn’t achieve it in Venezuela at that time because we didn’t have any resources. 12
What is your passion? Andrés Leal: As an Artist, all this years, moving around this giant rock Called Earth, I have realized that new experiences and constant hard work really can pave the way, therefore I have found out that through “Sharing” my perspective, ideas, points of view and having the possibilities to learn from other people is where i really found my passion. While we share our thoughts, Ideas, concepts, others might have access to solutions to their issues, to communication, to develop new ideas and can makes us all a part of a better world. What´s your Artistic Vision with this project Andrés: You me and most of the people in this planet have to deal with fears, insecurities and ego. With this project i tried to portray the concept of a character full of ego. Jöe (YOU) is that soul deranged, tortured and abused, who has has fallen in his comfort zone without the courage to change. Just until that moment when something about him changes killing all fears, insecurities and in the end himself. Showing that everyone inside can find joy and beauty where we can accept our mistakes leave behind the past and enjoy the present and all the marvelous things that this world has to offer. What makes this film important for you? Andrés: I´ve always felt triggered by the feeling that appearedborn inside me the first time i saw an animated movie: seeing drawings moving like they were alive with voices, music and sound, characters talking with gestures, animals dancing in such an harmoniousc ways, dealing with problems, laughing crying and so on. That was something that blowed my mind I didn’t understand at that time how something so big and wonderful could have been made by people and with their hands. -How? How did they do it? Millions of questions came in to my head. Since then i wanted to be part of the world of animation. This feeling has been the fire that led me year by year. Now i am keeping this fire burning developing this film and placing myself from the seat rows to the otherside, behind the screen.
