• CPR is the acronym of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation. Cardio refers to the heart whose main function is to pump blood around the body. • Pulmonary refers to the lungs whose main function is to receive oxygen from the air and supply it to the blood as blood is pumped through the lungs by the heart which receives back the oxygenated blood to circulate around the whole body. • Resuscitation means to revive from death or unconsciousness.
• Red Cross First Aid trains the required skills to recognize and respond to cardiovascular emergencies and choking for adults, children and babies depending on the level of CPR chosen. CPR is taught on First Aid course to learn the necessary skills from a qualified instructor. • The CPR techniques demonstrate methods of how to do CPR on human adults. Different advice and trainings are available for children, babies and pet. Participating in person also provides the experience of practicing using realistic equipment.
• CPR first aid training is very useful in emergency. In this method, • Check for danger before approaching causality. • Find out if they are conscious by gently tapping their shoulders and speaking to them. • If there is no response, shout for help! • Can you hear me! If they don’t respond, check whether they’re breathing normally. • Open their airway by putting one hand on their forehead and gently tilting their head back. Listen for sounds of breathing for ten seconds.
• If they’re not breathing normally, give them 5 initial rescue breaths. Pinch their nose, seal your mouth and blow for about a second each. • Then place your hand in the middle of their chest and give 30 chest compressions. • You need to push down about a 3rd of the depth of their chest and at a rate of 100per minute. • You may only need one hand but if you are small or the child is large, you may need two. • Continue cycles of 30 chest compressions and 2 rescue breaths until the ambulance arrives. The initial 5breaths are the main difference between adult CPR and child CPR.
