ATS Customer Service Centre delivers more for members
For over a decade ATS shareholders have enjoyed an unparalleled level of friendly, professional service through the ATS Customer Service Centre. In response to how much the ATS business has changed in that time, the Customer Service Centre is changing with it. The ATS team now covers broader aspects of the farm business beyond simply farm supplies, to include fuel requirements, electricity needs and seed supplies. To match the far broader farm business demands, ATS’s Customer Service team are continuously being trained and gaining knowledge on an ever widening level of farm business needs. This will help avoid having to pass calls on to other ATS staff, delaying responses to customer queries.

“This is an exciting new phase for ATS as we move even further to improve the experience our valued shareholders have with their company,” Customer Service Manager Lauren Sandrey says. Regardless of whether customers are calling or emailing the Customer Service Centre, the team has the knowledge to help with even the most complex queries, thanks to their collective backgrounds encompassing dairy, sheep, beef and arable farming. “We are equipped now to answer any query, from simple card issues through to gathering product information and providing quotes. Order processing for collection, on-farm delivery or promotional phone campaigns are all well within the team’s experience.” With the regular deluge of new and innovative products being offered to farmers, the service team can take the work out of filtering what is worth considering for specific farm businesses. “Being independent we can determine factually what is best, rather than basing the decision on opinion. Doing the homework for our farmer customers helps take some of that stress out of the decision, particularly at busy times of the year.” The Customer Service team is focussed on ultimately making the service easier, more
streamlined and more user-friendly for ATS customers. “We understand how busy farmers are. The changes make the Customer Service Centre a ‘one call’ centre, where the majority of enquires are dealt with right there and then. Being based locally here in Ashburton we understand the local environment and we also work closely with the outlying ATS branches.” The original vision of ATS over 50 years ago was to provide a better deal for its founding shareholders by lowering the costs of products they used. Having a personalised, efficient Customer Service Centre is a continuation of that original simple goal, in a farming environment that has become significantly more complex half a century later. “We have moved to ensure staff have the knowledge and the systems to support them so they can deliver greater attention to detail, consistently and specifically to each farmer and each season,” says Lauren. “We are here for our members, to keep their businesses running efficiently and cost effectively, all year around.” Any queries or questions for the ATS Customer Service Centre team can be answered by emailing ats@ats.co.nz or calling 03 307 5100 or 0800 BUY ATS (289 287).

Pallet returns for 2014
Are you moving?
Milligans and SealesWinslow Calf Feeds are not charging for pallets this season, but both organisations would like pallets returned. If all Milligans pallets could be returned to ATS and all Seales Winslow pallets from last season to be returned directly to them as soon as possible to receive a credit. For more information, call the ATS Customer Service team on 0800 BUY ATS (289 287).
Don’t wait until you take occupancy of a new farm. Arrange your new electricity accounts ahead of time to ensure there’s a smooth transition from one property to another when you are moving. This will ensure accounts are set up ready to go, old accounts have arranged final reads, and power supply is not interrupted. Call Tracey at ATS Energy to manage this transition for you on 0800 BUY ATS (289 287).
Change to ATS Freight Service Last year we made some changes to the ATS freight service which saw charges imposed for orders under $3000. Since then we have taken on board feedback from members and are pleased to advise that, if you order more than $1,000 worth of product within the same order it can be delivered free on farm. For orders of less than $1,000 we are happy to continue arranging delivery on farm of your products but it will be on a user pays basis with our partner TNL. If you have any questions or would like to discuss this matter further please contact ATS on 0800 BUY ATS (298 287). *Terms and conditions apply
Have you got free grain for sale? ATS Seed is always looking for all types of grain to supply a wide range of end users. If you have free/ uncontracted grain that you would like to sell please contact ATS Seed. Making sure your wet weather gear fits
Now is the time to start considering your spring pasture requirements. Grazing of brassica crops is now complete in most cases and farmers will be looking to get these paddocks back into production as soon as they can. Early sowing of your pastures will ensure maximum pasture growth for spring grazing. ATS Seed can supply you with all your spring pasture and seed treatment requirements. Contact us now on 0800 BUY ATS (289 287).
Having correctly fitted wet weather gear is crucial if you want to keep warm and dry. ATS can now arrange shortening of over-trousers free of charge. All we need to know is the amount you need taken off the bottom and we will order the corrected length from either Line 7 or Betacraft. Both of these companies also offer free repairs on their garments. These items must be clean and dry before they are brought into ATS. Please be aware courier fees apply for the items being sent away. If you have any questions feel free to call the Gift and Homeware store on 0800 BUY ATS (289 287).

Choosing the best kale With a range of kales available, it’s hard to choose the right one for your situation. Stock can and will gain weight on kale but need plenty of leaf and good plant quality. With a range of kales available, it’s hard to choose the right one for your situation. Stock can and will gain weight on kale but need plenty of leaf and good plant quality. The days of choosing a kale cultivar based simply on DM yield are well behind us. Results from a Canterbury kale study (Westwood et al., 2014)* help identify the best kale for you. The study looked at DM yield, leaf percentage and quality of four types of kale through the 2013 winter. Kales
were sampled monthly from May until September, with plant components (stem and leaf ) sampled for nutritive value. Results Dry matter yield: Regal and Gruner yielded significantly more DM than Kestrel or Rawera kales. A late winter flush of leaf growth lifted yields of Regal and Kestrel but not Gruner or Rawera. For the best of both worlds, yield and leaf, choose Regal. Leaf percentage: Regal and Kestrel delivered more leaf compared with Gruner or Rawera. The difference was very obvious by late winter. For a leafy crop, particularly in late winter choose Regal or Kestrel. Energy content: Kestrel contained significantly more energy (MJME/kgDM) and less fibre (NDF) than the other kales.
ARTICLE SUPPLIED BY:
While Kestrel yielded less DM per hectare, the energy density of Kestrel lifted MJME yield per ha to levels comparable with other cultivars. Stem quality: Kestrel had the best quality stem with MJME of top stem 13.0 and the stem base 11.6 MJME. Rawera stem base was very poor quality (8.7 MJME/kgDM), almost 3.3 MJME lower than stem top. Recommendations Dry matter yield? If yield of feed is your only requirement, choose Regal or Gruner. Both yield well, however Regal flushed with new leaf growth in late winter while Gruner lost leaf. When late winter leaf and yield is needed, choose Regal over Gruner. Quality? Where stock liveweight gain and/or body condition score is your priority, choose Kestrel. With very high quality stem and good leaf percentage, Kestrel delivers the premium feed option. Where yield and quality are equally important, Regals’ high leaf percentage and top yield delivers both, optimizing performance for your stock. Tip 1: Regal is the kale of choice for excellent dry matter (DM) yields and leaf production, even in late winter. Tip 2: Choose Kestrel when high energy feed is needed for top priority stock classes. For more information or to order your seed requirements contact ATS Seed on 0800 BUY ATS (289 287).
