I present you with the 2008-2009 CNH Bulletin Editors Manual. If you have any problems you might struggle with throughout the year in your position, turn to this manual or contact any of your officers.

Although you may think your officer position is not that important, you are an essential part of the team. You are the advertiser, the communicator, and the general publicity person of the club.

Remember that your main goal as a Bulletin Editor is to circulate information about your club to your school, community, division, district, and even international. Don’t be afraid to ask for help in compiling the bulletin for the club. Get other members to help write some of the information and you just compile it.

Duties: Newsletters Produce newsletters on a regular basis for members with: 1) Club president’s remarks 2) Calendar of recent/upcoming events 3) One “fun” article (facts, Kiwanis Family, comics) 4) Minimum of one story about a recent past project (service projects, not socials) 5) Minimum of one story about an upcoming project (service projects, not socials) 6) Key Club symbol, division number, school mascot
Attend Attend all meetings within club, club board, and club officertraining conferences with the lieutenant governor. Go to meetings and events and complete 50 hours of service.
Articles Send articles regarding projects and new ideas to the CNH Key (send the articles to your Lieutenant Governor), KEYNOTER magazine, and community newspapers. Be sure to include photos.
Publicity Post signs, posters, banners, and bulletins announcing meeting dates, projects, and any type of Key Club promotion. Make public-service announcements and contact local press.

Newsletters/Articles Requirements: When compiling… All newsletters should have: 1) Key Club Graphic Standards 2) Banner containing name and address of the school, and frequency of publication 3) Issue number and month of publication 4) Name of newsletter editor and contact information (be cautious if posting online) 5) Newsletters should be a minimum of one page printed on both sides
DO NOT… Use put Myspace of Facebook on your newsletter.
Make sure to: 1) Make a draft 2) Write to express, not to impress 3) Use at least one graphic per page 4) Always proofread 5) Always make sure to save an original on a portable storage 6) Keep the audience in mind 7) ALWAYS check on GRAMMAR.
When releasing… 1) Do not overprint newsletters, only print a certain amount. Print more when requested. 2) Post your newsletter online, this way, you can save money on ink or paper. You can also distribute the newsletter easier.
How to produce: To produce a newsletter/article, I recommend using the following programs… -Microsoft Word -Microsoft Publisher -Adobe InDesign

Graphic Standards The Graphic Standards Why Graphic Standards? Graphic Standards help brand Key Club by using the same design elements (fonts, colors, logos, and symbols). This helps Key Club look consistent. You will receive the Graphic Standards CD when your club receives their boxes of material or you can download it from the CNH Key Club website. Logos
Font Do not stretch the image to distort it. The pencil does not have to be white.

Goudy Old Style Century Gothic
Century Gothic for header, Goudy Old Style for text. You can use other fonts for subheaders or headers.
Colors
You can use gradients of a color for graphic standards.
Backgrounds can still have images, other colors, or words in the background, as long as the Key Club logo and Key Club wordmark can still be seen.
Don’t forget to use effects such as gradients, drop shadows, glows, transparencies, 4 and other effects to enhance Graphic Standards and your graphics.

Tips: Always save your newsletters in PDF, it will show your newsletters in its highest quality and allow it to be unchanged by others. To make a PDF, use Adobe Acrobat, PDFCreator or PrimoPDF. Picnik is basically a photoshop on the go…online. It’s not as powerful as photoshop, but it gets the job done and has the same functions…online. You can also edit, enhance, and addon images/fonts to you’re picture…online. The website is www.picnik.com. If you do not have Microsoft Word, Publisher, or Powerpoint; there is an alternative. It’s called Open Office. Think of it as Microsoft Office, but free. 6

Submitting Articles to International 1) Download the Key Club Magazine Report Form from the Key Club International website or the CNH Key Club website. 2) Fill out the general information of the form. 3) On a separate sheet of paper or document, include the following information: 1) A detailed description of the project 2) Information about how it was developed 3) How much money was spent / how much money was raised and for what cause. 4) Any other information that would interest readers. 5) Include any color photographs, candid pictures, and even newspaper clippings about the project. 4) Return the form to magazine@kiwanis.org or mail it to: Key Club Magazine 3636 Woodview Trace, Indianapolis, IN 46268-3196 USA
