LETTER FROM THE EDITORS
Hello. I bring to you the 4th issue of this year‟s District Newsletter. In this newsletter we have sprinkled pictures of club and division merchandise. We hope that you will read the executive and committee chair inserts thoroughly while taking a glimpse at what the CNH regions are doing around you. Who knows what you may take out of this newsletter, perhaps an idea or an inspiration. Your club may contact the lieutenant governor for further information about how he/ she did it and how it turned out. Don‟t believe that your club can not do it. Do think it over because you want the best interest of your entire club. If there is anything we can do to serve you for the future days, months to come. Please contact us. Believe that with the power of asking, you can do many things you would not be able to do if you did not ask. If you would like to be featured on the front cover. What is a regional training conference? Why should you go? You should go because this is the sign, the push for you to go. Stop debating whether you should or shouldn‟t go. Just go. If you are more of the “I need reasons to attend person”, I will gladly share them with you. As a member, this is a part of the Key Club experience. Whether the regional training conference will grab your interest or not, it is a part of the Key Club experience that you paid for. The Lt. Governors who put it together have worked so hard. All you need to do is sit back and enjoy. This can be your eye opening event to get further into Key Club. There will be a workshop or two that will ignite your passion! From this event you will take home spirit and hopefully something that will inspire you. The regional training conference is a great place to network. Gain service ideas and new friends to help you guide through the year. You never know, so just go! Now when you attend, you might have taken a step out of your comfort zone. Take another step because you are already out of it! Greet

THE ICE
Break out the calendar because school is now in session. Jot down the dates of your RTC, Fall Rally, and Key Club Week! Those are some events that are coming your way and you need to prepare for them. Regional Training Conferences are held once a year by your lt. governors. This is the time when you can truly grasp the picture of your region and see the scale of Key Club. Encourage members to go. There is plenty of information that will be given and there will be plenty of people to see. If you have members who are on the borderline of attending, offer them a ride to the regional training conference. There is always the member who is too shy to attend, so give them a poke and ask them to come personally. It is harder to deny an invitation in person, especially from someone who cares. Key Club week is also coming up. Take this month to plan accordingly. Have your members memorize what each day it is. Make the week unforgettable. Have heads turn. Show that Key Club spirit! I look forward to seeing pictures that you will submit to your respective Lt. Governors too.
Remember to take plenty of pictures. Submit those in too.
Remember to introduce yourself to people. This is the perfect place to network.

As the school year approaches, remember that school is one of your highest priorities. Keep up with your school work, so that you can participate more in Key Club! As a district, we are well on our way to reaching our goals of 750,000 service hours, $100,000 for Pediatric Trauma Prevention (PTP), and 42,000 members! Help us reach our goals by staying active Key Club members throughout the year! Have you heard about the 2011 DCON Theme: It‟s a BEE World! This year‟s theme focuses on celebrating the international aspect of Key Club. Key Club IS in fact the largest international high school service organization, existing in 30 countries worldwide! Spread the theme and implement it in everything you do! Let‟s educate all of CNH about Key Club International and celebrate our organization! I hope to see all of you bees at District Convention 2011 in Anaheim, CA!
Hello CNH Secretaries! As a sneak peek to the 2010-2011 Secretary Manual that will be posted on the CyberKey shortly, here is an overview of the duties that you are responsible for as a secretary. WHAT IS A CLUB SECRETARY? A secretary is essentially the backbone of the club. He or she organizes all of the club paperwork and files, records minutes and members‟ service hours, completes the Monthly Report Form (MRF) throughout the year, creates a club directory, and much more! Basically, your club would be lost without you!! This position may seem a little overwhelming now, but once you become more familiar with your duties, this year will feel like a breeze!
WHAT DUTIES? WEEKLY - Attend all club/board meetings - Take minutes during all meetings - Attend club and divisional events - Keep members informed - Record members‟ service hours - Organize all club paperwork/files MONTHLY - Submit club MRF to your LTG, club president, Regional Advisor, and sponsoring Kiwanis Club by the 5th of every month - Attend Divisional Council Meetings (DCMs) - Provide service hour updates for members YEARLY - Meet with club officers to create goals and plans for the year - Create a club directory - Attend OTC, RTC, Fall Rally, DCON, and other important events - Submit the Annual Achievement Report score - Strive for District Tree recognition - Assist the incoming club secretary with his/her duties

THE TREASURER Hello CNH BEEs! I hope you all had an amazing summer and are ready to start the school year off with a BUZZ. BEE ready to attract all those new members and show them how amazing Key Club is. Don‟t forget to pay your dues so you‟re an official member of Key Club. During those first meetings, bring your friends along just so they can experience something you enjoy to do. Who knows, maybe they‟ll love it just as much as you do! With Fall Rally just around the corner, remember to start saving up money so you can attend! This event is a massive gathering of Southern California and Nevada Key Clubbers! It is jam packed with spirit and love for Key Club. Also, it is a great reminder to fundraise for Pediatric Trauma Prevention! Help your division get to the top of the fundraising chart by fundraising, fundraising, recruting members to help fundraise, and just more fundraising!
THE TECH-EDITOR Hey Key Clubbers! Man! What a year that is starting to turn out already! Everyone should have started school now which where Key Club should start entering the lives of many of you all once again. If your Key Club told you of many events over the summer and you attended them, great! If you attended service events without any Key Club help this summer, even better! It‟s also time for Regional Training Conferences (RTCs), so make sure you go to your RTC! Whether you are an officer or not, there is so much useful information that will be given at your RTC. Words can not express how much you will learn at your RTC! Please go to your RTC! Lastly, Fall Rally is also coming up. Fall Rally North will be at Great America and Fall Rally South will be at Six Flags. I hope to meet you all and hope you have a lot of fun! Cause it will be! Continue to turn in pictures to your LTGs and have an amazing month of school! :)
FROM THE TREASURER Hello CNH Treasurers! It‟s school season, so BEE ready to attend those Key Club meetings. Don‟t forget that dues season is coming up, and the first batch of dues should be turned in BEFORE October 1st. Set an example for your club by being proactive, and completing your tasks on time. The earlier you do it, the less stress you‟ll have later on. Work with your club secretary to record and keep track of the membership dues. It‟s your responsibility to handle all the money, so make sure you are careful. Again, remember to process the dues in a timely manner! Remember to help your president out with fundraising for PTP. As a treasurer, you should help and see what‟s the best way to fundraise money for your school. Hold carwashes while it‟s still hot or have a movie night to bond. Spread the knowledge of Key Club and recruit more members! The more members your club has, the more hands you have for fundraising! Lastly, make sure you join the CNH Treasurers Reflector <http://groups.google.com/group/cnh-kc-treasurers> I am finishing up the Treasurer‟s Manual, so I will be sending that out onto the reflector. An updated Step-by-Step Dues Process is in its finishing process. Again, make sure you join the reflector. Check out the CyberKey <http://cnhkeyclub.org> for an updated file of Club Dues.
FROM ANDREW SHINFirst of all, I can‟t thank you enough for all the articles and visuals! The pictures that you submit blow me away on how much service our district has done. Expect the pictures to be viewed during the General Sessions of District Convention as well as the CNH Yearbook! As you may all know, RTC is coming up! Please make sure to go to your RTC as there will be important information about the position of Editor and how to do your job, if you don‟t know already. ;) Key Club International will soon allow us to hold webinars, so expect that in the coming months. The new design for the CNH KEY will be up soon! We are currently testing it! If you have any questions at all, please hit me up an email or send an email to the editors reflector! COMMITTEE REPORTS MEMBER RECOGNITION WORDS FROM
MEMBER RECOGNITION Hello Cali-Nev-Ha District, I hope you have all had a fun and service filled summer. Although months of testing, late nights, and hard work lie ahead of us, there is much to look forward to. Fall is the time to see your work in action, to serve your school, and to make your meetings move. With events such as Regional Training Conferences to Fall Rallies North and South, Fall is one of the busiest seasons of the Key Club year and school year. Soâ&#x20AC;Ś plan ahead! Make sure to mark your calendar, to promote all Key Club events to fellow members, and to check the Outstanding Officer Checklist requirements (if you are an officer), and ask yourself which events you still need to attend in order to qualify. Last but not least, please also utilize this time to prepare for the contest application process. Discuss with your club what awards you plan to apply for and who will be in charge of them. DISTRICT CONTEST APPLICATIONS ON THE CYBERKEY All District contest applications for the 2010-2011 district administrative year have been posted on the CNH CyberKey. Although most contest applications are mostly unchanged, some contests did go through notable revisions and
some new contests were added. The following are some of the changes that were made to the contests. 1| The Bulletin Editor Contest was removed. In its place, the Club Newsletter and Divisional Newsletter contests were created.
2| The District Project contest was revised to include two new categories: Active Service and Promotion. Active Service constitutes of service projects that directly carry out the District Project Shine, while Promotion includes, but is not limited to, fundraisers and promotion of Project SHINE and its cause.
3| Club of the Year, Kiwanis Advisor, and Faculty Advisor contests were created. These are all new divisionallyjudged contests.
4| The Most Improved Club and Member of the Year contests are now divisionally-judged contests. 5| The Kiwanis Family Award was revised to be an Automatic Entry contest.

These certificates should be presented by the Club President and/or Club Board of Officers to outstanding members and officers on a monthly basis. These require the signature of the Club President and Faculty or Kiwanis Advisor. The ‘Completed 50 Hours of Service’ certificate should be presented to members as soon as they have completed at least 50 Hours of Service.
These certificates should be presented by the Divisional Lieutenant Governor to outstanding members and clubs at Divisional Council Meetings and/or other divisional events. These require the signature of the Lieutenant Governor and Regional Advisor.

DISTRICT PROJECTS In 1983, Marie Osmond and her family founded a televised fundraiser to raise money for children and children‟s hospitals. Since then, the small fundraisers, later to be named Children‟s Miracle Network, has bloomed into one of North America‟s biggest charities. Other than being a children‟s charity, what exactly is Children‟s Miracle Network? Children‟s Miracle Network (CMN) is an international charity which raises money for children with two main objectives: to help as many children as possible by raising money to fund children‟s hospitals, and to retain funds in the community they were raised to help the local children. The Children‟s Miracle Network raises over $250 million annually, which helps to fund over 170 different children’s hospitals, and has raised a cumulative $3.4 billion since 1983.

DISTRICT PROJECTS Children‟s Miracle Network attempts to help as many children as possible, as much as possible, through combating any ailments that children may have. The organization also focuses on medical research, education, and outreach programs which all help to keep millions of children out of hospitals each year. In 1996, Key Club International partnered with Children‟s Miracle Network, and CMN became one of Key Club‟s three official partners. The Key Club International-CMN partnership raises approximately $35 million annually, helping to contribute to the $250 million CMN raises overall. There are numerous ways to help the Children‟s Miracle Network; Key Clubs participate in the Service of Champions Day, a service-athon which raises money to benefit CMN hospitals as well as the communities that participate in the service-a-thon. Key Clubbers can volunteer at local CMN hospitals (or any children‟s hospital), hold a Miracle Balloon Fundraiser, participate in the Six Flags “A Walk In the Park”, donate money on National Pancake Day, and much more! For more detailed information on Children‟s Miracle Network and how you can help out, visitwww.childrensmiraclenetwork.org and the CNH Key Club Cyberkey (cnhkeyclub.org). The District Projects Committee is currently working on increasing the number of resources for all of our different project initiatives, including the Children‟s Miracle Network. Throughout the year, we will be posting more and more resources pertaining to the Children‟s Miracle Network, so remember to check out the Cyberkey once in a while!

KIWANIS FAMILY AND FOUNDATION Summer has BUZZed away! Dear officers and members, Summer has brought forth lots of joy and changes. Now it is time to gear up for school and start advertising Key Club in your schools. One of the best ways to fully capture an audience‟s attention is to play videos and present pictures; including pictures with any level of the Kiwanis Family during a service project. Talk about the experiences and the importance of building this relationship with the familyJ! Also, it is never too late to get started on fundraising for Pediatric Trauma Program. If you are a Lieutenant Governor, encourage your clubs to get started on surpassing the District Goal for Pediatric Trauma Program. Check up on the clubs once in a while to answer any questions since they are all new officers. If you are an officer or member, make sure to research for some interactive fundraisers that you can in your schools now because Fall Rally is right around the corner.

COMMITTEE REPORTS KIWANIS FAMILY AND FOUNDATION KIWANIS FAMILY AND FOUNDATION CONTINUED REGIONAL TRAINING CONFERENCES This is a great time to receive resources about your position in the Kiwanis Family whether an officer or a member. This way you can lead your clubs successfully and build better relations with the Kiwanis Family for support. The slideshow on KFF has been updated and will be posted on the cyberkey shortly. Also, our committee is putting together more resources for KFF that will be posted on the president‟s reflector very soon. Take advantage of them!
KEY LEADER Key Leader dates and locations have been posted on the Key Club Board Reflector. Make sure to ask your Kiwanians for support and your Lieutenant Governor for the possible dates and locations. The KFF committee highly encourage each of you to attend because of the incredible opportunities and lifelong lessons.

Recruit, recruit, recruit! Hello officers and members! School is starting and for many of you club rush/week takes place soon. Find creative ways to advertise Key Club. Recruit freshmen, retain seniors, and interest everyone in-between! Be informative, and provide visuals of service and fun. Pass out brochures, flyers, and incentives such as candy or bracelets. Create tri-folds and posters. Spread the word, and remember to emphasize INCLUSIVENESS to everyone. Joining Key Club is something to look forward and a great way to start off the school year!

Pay Your Dues! As a Key Clubber, paying your dues will help the organization run at both district and international levels – providing funds for publications, membership cards, and pins, supporting charitable organizations and hosting events, insurance, and much more! Dues at a minimum are $11.00 total in the CNH District ($6.50 goes towards international, $4.50 district). Each club may differ in their price of dues, but may not exceed $22.00. Dues may be collected at your school as soon as possible, but may be submitted into Key Club International starting October 1 st, 2010. Check keyclub.org or cnhkeyclub.org for more information when available. Any dues submitted before November 1st, 2010 are considered “Early Bird Dues” by Key Club International (Note: CNH District does not emphasize early bird dues, but rather retention). The official dues deadline is December 1st, 2010.

POLICIES | INTERNATIONAL & ELECTIONS Hello Cali-Nev-Ha District! This month, the Policies, International, and Elections (PIE for short) Committee created condensed versions of the International Board Voice and Leadership End of the Year Committee Reports, which display all of the work accomplished by the 2009-10 International Board and will be published via the officers‟ reflectors and Cyberkey. We also developed training materials (power point presentations and handouts) for our Summer Board Training Conference, where we trained your lieutenant governors about Key Club‟s policies and bylaws, up to date international activities, and the new scantron elections process we will be using to conduct elections at District Convention in Anaheim next April!

POLICIES All of PIE Committee‟s proposed bylaw changes were intended to help organize our district bylaws, to make them align with our international bylaws, and to better organize them structurally. Each proposal was passed unanimously by our district board; however, the bylaws still have to go to the House of Delegates at DCON for approval. The proposed bylaw changes approved by district board will be posted in future months for your review before the House of Delegates, so you can have time to consider them carefully.

COMMITTEE REPORTS POLICIES INTERNATIONAL AND ELECTIONS POLICIES In addition, we created a Key Club Policy and Bylaw Guide to help you interpret our bylaws and policies, understand the procedures for changing our bylaws and policies, and explain the purpose of and emphasize the importance of every Key Club‟s bylaws. This useful guide will be available on cnhkeyclub.org and e-mailed out via the officers‟ google group reflectors soon. PIE Committee plans on proposing several policy changes to help our district thrive and function more efficiently in line with our interests. These proposals have been sent to your lieutenant governor, so you can then voice your opinions and/or concerns on the proposed policy changes to him or her, which will then be communicated to our committee. Our committee also developed club level agreement to serve forms, an effective solution to help strengthen our district‟s commitment to service, to increase the effectiveness of our club and district events, and to help better the overall functions of CNH. We developed these forms for each of the main club officer positions in CNH: president, VP, secretary, treasurer, and bulletin or tech editor. These forms have a list of duties and responsibilities which club officer candidates should agree to do in office, if elected, by signing the document and turning it in to their faculty or Kiwanis Advisor in order to be considered an eligible candidate. We highly recommend that every club officer provide feedback on our rough draft agreement to serve templates by taking our surveys sent out via each officer reflector. These agreement to serve forms are optional (& alterable as each club sees fit), and are not mandatory for clubs to adopt.

ELECTIONS
The PIE Committee also developed a flier to publicize our 2010-11 International Board, and a Key Club International Educational Document with all Key Club officer positions‟ titles and descriptions, important international terms, and the overall structure of our organization. The guide will be publicized via the officers‟ reflectors and posted on cnhkeyclub.org. At the last international board meeting, our international board picked committee and subcommittee chairs and established future directives.
Elections by scantron is an innovative, technological endeavor that will increase quality and accuracy in district officer and international endorsement elections. Key Club Delegates will bubble in the candidate of their choice on a scantron sheet, instead of having to write down their candidates‟ names. Instead, Key Clubbers will have a big screen at the House of Delegates at District Convention that will list district officer and international endorsement candidates‟ names and respective positions they are seeking, so it will be clear and easy for Key Clubbers to pick their favorite candidates.

In the future, PIE Committee plans to create Lieutenant Governor Candidates Training Conference (CTC) Promotional Materials, including a document explaining the benefits of being a Lt. Governor and the duties which the job entails and a CTC flier for clubs to use to promote divisional conclaves or lieutenant governor elections.

A: No, they will not be allowed to attend District Convention. The convention celebrates and recognizes the Key Club member, and attending convention is actually a privilege for Key Club members who have been cleared by paying their dues.

A: Any adult attending convention as an advisor or chaperone must be AT LEAST 22 years of age. A background check is required of all adults attending convention regardless of when they are registered. While the background checks are currently good for two years, we recommend submitting the form each year to be covered. If you have any further questions regarding background checks, please contact Mr. Bruce Hennings at the District Office.
Logo/design With the extension of the logo/design competition until August 30th, the logo/design chosen will be ready for promotion and use later this month!
