Some of you are getting a taste of AP classes…fun… but don’t worry, next year’s worse! Juniors. SAT’s. Get that 2400!, two more year to go : ) And SENIORS were almost done. And while all of the “cool” people are out there getting drunk, we are staying SOBER. But can we do instead? Key Club! We have a lot of really big and cool events coming up.

Hey Surfers, Up ahead is the crashing break of waves, meaning we have a challenge ahead of ourselves. To all Division 37 North Surfers, expect a lot since Fall Rally is right around the corner. Don’t forget about the challenge, each club should raise $100 for Pediatric Trauma Prevention. Alanna Le
Hey Red Bulls, Hello Key Clubbers! My name is Jennifer Zhang, a proud but not nerdy senior at Torrey Pines High School. Some distinguishing traits include my favorite color being yellow, my extreme obsession with indie music groups that most people have not heard of and my strange love for souplantation blueberry muffins. Aside from loads of homework I enjoy playing piano, going to the beach and of course doing anything key club related. Jennifer Zhang

Show your K in every way!
Kudos to the Key Player!
Connect the Ks!
Bring a friend to Key Club!
For the first day of Key Club Week, show off what Key Club is all about. Rock those Key Club shorts or wear Key Club tattoos to school. Tell people what Key Club really is and don’t be afraid to be out there. Publicize Key Club in everyway. We’re not a club that makes keys; instead we’re a club trying to change the world.
On this day, we recognize all our heroes and people who deserved a thank you. All those people who have supported Key Club like teachers, advisors, parents, or anybody else. Be creative, maybe give out Kudos Bars to those who deserve Kudos. Make and give them gift bags or plan an appreciation party.
We’re all part of a family, the Kiwanis Family. Key Club is the largest; however, we can’t forget about the other members of our family. Plan an event with your Builders Club, KKids, or your Kiwanis. Maybe a service project or a dinner. Make friendships or connections with these people. We’ll always be part of the Kiwanis Family!
Even though we’re the largest student organization in high school, it doesn’t mean we need to stop growing. By bringing recruiting more members, it equals more community service. Don’t stop by just brining one friend either, bring as many friends as you can. Introduce them to the world of Key Club.
Recruiting As the year is just beginning it is the perfect time to start recruiting the incoming freshman into the best club in the entire universe-KEY CLUB! Utilize your school's club day to set up a booth for Key Club and don't forget to get creative! From posters to music to fliers to free food, there are so many ways to draw new members into your club. Remember that while freshman may have a reputation for being the annoying invaders of your high school campus that they are highly valued in Key Club hierarchy! As officers begin to graduate and lose positions, it is of the utmost importance that you are leaving your club in good hands! That is why it is so important to have a good selection of underclassmen entering your club every year so that you have a good pool of worthy candidates that may become the future leaders of your club.
Friday Your Way! For this day, any club can do their own thing. BEE creative and be unique! Plan out a social or a service project, just make it your own! Maybe incorporate District Project: C.A.R.E. or think of your own service event. Ask what your members would like to do too.

Division 21
American Apparel Jacket Fundraiser
Once again, coming around the corner is RTC and Key Leader. Right now, and for the next few weeks, we are having the American Apparel Jacket fundraiser. Also a reminder…they’re only $25! And the proceeds go to charity. Then the next big thing is Fall Rally, which is the biggest Key Club you can ever go. It does cost a about $30-50…depending on what school you go to. BUT considering that normal tickets are around $50, so sign right up! You’ll be there with hopefully around 250 people from Division 21…and 6,000 people from other Divisions! Hope to see you all soon!
Division 37 North Ready for the next wave, well, up ahead is a lot to come. For Division 37 North, we have the American Apparel Fundraiser in action and fundraising for Pediatric Trauma Prevention. The challenge for our division is the $1000 goal, which means if each club can fundraise 100 dollars, then we’re good.
Project Standout! Rancho Buena Vista High School is holding the One of a Kind Walk at their school on November 14. This event is to help fundraise money to help rebuild a school in India. Help support them.
Division 37 South As the month of October approaches, my division and I have been very busy trying to plan accordingly for all the many events coming up this Fall. First and foremost of course is RTC, which is just coming up in two weeks! We have been diligently preparing for this huge event with cheers and spirit and lots of props to blow everyones minds. Also, I have been working on officer training as well as Fall Rally advertising. Although with college applications and Key Club-events coinciding quite inconveniently, I cannot help but be excited for the many events that we have coming up and it will all be worth it when RTC finally comes and my division puts up a good show.
As a Divisional Fundraiser, all three divisions are selling American Apparel Sweatshirts to benefit the Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP). Five dollars from each jacket will be donated to Pediatric Trauma Prevention. Only $25 per jacket! (retail of $42) Find all colors at: http://store.americanapparel.net/f497. html To place an order please get into contact with your Lieutenant Governor. This is an easy way to fund raise money for PTP. Considering that retail is $42 and people are only buying them for $25 is a great deal. Think about buying your won jacket with divisional colors for spirit since there is a great variety of colors. You can sell jackets to anyone not just Key Clubbers, and it is at your clubs jurisdiction if you want to add $5 for non-key clubbers to make money for your club. So go out there and sell for PTP!

Making Meetings Move Are your meetings boring? Does no one come to your meeting? You could always have games before and after your meetings, but what happens when its business time? A few things that you should do is circulate an agenda, have a time keeper, and never pull out your phone or any electronics. But what do these do? Agendas lets people anticipate the kind of information that they will be receiving, as exactly what they will be doing during the meeting. Time keeper will keep whatever you have to say short, concise, and won’t allow any random conversation that will lose the members. Lastly, never pull out your phone because if you are too busy to be at the meeting everyone else has made time for, they will feel like their time is being wasted. What if they think you are a boring speaker with a monotone? Get other people to talk! Many times meetings are dominated by a few people. Try and have other people at your meetings speak up.
Wow, there are so many events coming up! Fall Rally for Pediatric Trauma Prevention and DCON! How are you supposed to afford all this? Well, maybe you won’t have to... Instead of selling your kidney to that random guy on the street corner, how about organizing a fundraiser with Key Club? BEE creative and unique, think of various ways of fundraisers. Consider restaurant fundraisers, car washes, selling See’s Candies, or rummage sales. From simple car washes to intense people auctions, you can make fundraising both a fun and profitable experience for everyone! Something to keep in mind when fundraising is to have a reasonable goal. Plan ahead of time, date, place, and who you can market too. Ask your Kiwanis for help or school. Also, make sure you know what your using that money for donations, PTP, socials, club meetings, DCON, or service projects.
Key Leader: Julian Key Leader is a program for today’s young leaders. This lifechanging event focuses on service leadership as the first, most meaningful leadership development experience. A Key Leader will learn the most important lesson of leadership which comes from helping others succeed. Participation in the program begins with attending a Key Leader conference, which is a weekend retreat. A line-up of workshops, lectures and team building activities takes place over the course of the weekend. An opportunity to learn skills that can be taken back to the school community is an essential element of the program, as is development of ongoing interaction with other Key Leader participants. Positive interaction with other Key Leader "graduates" can offer continuing reinforcement, encouragement and growth of leadership skills.

When: November 14, 2009; 10 am- 6pm Where: Six Flags Magic Mountain
Its time to think ahead. Time to think about the spirit, pride, fundraising, and fun. Think about Fall Rally. Thousands of Key Clubbers from Southern California, Nevada, and Hawaii converge to Six Flags for Fall Rally on November 14, 2009. Divisions show their pride, coming ready to battle it all out with fundraising for PTP and spirit. Oh, don’t forget about that there is a Lieutenant Governor Auction Off. Fall Rally is only a hour long session and the rest of the day can be spent enjoying Six Flags. The reason we converge to Six Flags for Fall Rally is all about fundraising for Pediatric Trauma Prevention. Fall Rally is the biggest fundraiser for Pediatric Trauma Prevention. Fundraising for PTP helps towards grants for hospitals or the training of doctors in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. All of this is going towards Pediatric Trauma Prevention. Each division has their own divisional goal of how much to fundraise for Pediatric Trauma Prevention. One of the most integral components of Key Club, from death-defying spirit battles to vigorous hip thrusts (I feel good, oh I feel so good UUUUUHHHHH). When it comes to huge Key Club events, such as Fall Rally or District Convention, it is so important to have your division's bringing out their spirit, or they will face the consequences of being spiritually-mauled by the others! Luckily, there are a number of ways to prepare your clubs to be contenders of all-time-spirit glory. You can of course, rehearse the more popular cheers (I feel good, spirit battle criteria etc.) and then make up your own cheers as well!
PTP Fall Rally is without a doubt one of the most lookedforward to events of the year, and who wouldn't be excited for roller coasters and amusement park food and Key Clubbers from half of the district? But what calls for even MORE excitement for than what I listed above is what Fall Rally is really all about: PTP! Pediatric Trauma Prevention is an organization that helps to save children's lives through funding a number of things, including children's hospitals to children's medical equipment etc... Preventable injury is the leading cause of death for children living in the United States, which is why it is so important to advocate to your Key Club's to spread awareness and join the cause! For more information you can go to Kiwanis Foundation site for information on how your club can receive grants to help you in your campaign to fundraising for PTP.
