Why is editing important?

Enough said!

Steps of Writing, Editing, and Publishing an Article You must first make a detailed outline of your main goals for the article This includes: sources, questions, and an angle An outline is important, because it allows you to brainstorm and expand on your idea. By creating questions, you might come up with things you didn’t originally think consider. It also keeps you organized for interviews and for writing the first draft.

Steps of Writing, Editing, and Publishing an Article  After all your information is gathered into an outline, it’s time to write your first draft.  It’s an expansion of your outline In a first draft, it’s okay to fill it with a lot of information; it’s basically a brainstorm/rough draft of your article. The more information there is, the easier it will be when it comes time edit it, so don’t worry about word count…not just yet!

Steps of Writing, Editing, and Publishing an Article  Now that you’ve written your first draft, its time to start editing and revising it! (from here on, you will have several more drafts)  Things to ask yourself?  Does my article transition well, from thought to thought?  Is the grammar correct?  Is my information true? When editing and revising your article, you want a fresh perspective, so it’s best to have someone else look it over. If you do decide to review it yourself, let the article sit for a few days, so that your mind can “take a breather”.

Editing and making revisions to an article can sometimes look messy! If there is a word limit due to a space constraint, chances are the article will be condensed and information will be cut and moved around, but that’s okay!

Steps of Writing, Editing, and Publishing an Article  Now that you have a final draft, it’s time for publication!  Before publishing anything, you want to go back and really fine tune everything; something as ‘insignificant’ as a comma can really distort a sentence.  Finally, publish your article! When publishing an article, in this case online, make sure that you have a creative title, a correct byline, and a credited photo caption.
