Keep the Kids Entertained during the Holidays When school holidays roll around, kids are jubilant and parents apprehensive, because they know it won’t be long before jubilation gives way to the plaintive cry of “I’m bored”. We look at some fun and affordable indoor options to keep kids entertained this winter. 1.
Board Games. In this age of smart phones, iPads and PlayStations, kids are growing up playing solitary games. Good old fashioned board games have been long forgotten. But what better way to spend a winter’s evening, than to haul out the Monopoly or Scrabble game. Getting the family around the table is a great bonding activity, provides hours of fun and laughter and costs nothing!
2.
3. 4.
Arts & Crafts. Painting, drawing, and making fun crafts will keep the little ones busy for hours. It is a great way for kids to express their creativity and showing off their finished creation fills them with a sense of pride and accomplishment. Kenilworth Karting. Show a kid a go-kart and see their faces light up! Cost: R70 p/p for kids under 16. Tel: 021683 2670. .Cape Town Science Centre. Using a sharp knife, make a small cross at the top and bottom of each tomato. Cover with boiling water and leave to stand for about 1 minute. Drain the tomatoes and when cool enough to handle, peel off the skins and quarter them. Cut each quarter in half again.
7.
Heat the oil in a large saucepan and cook the onions and garlic for 3 minutes or until just soften. Add the tomatoes to the onions and stir in the stock, tomato purĂŠe and paprika. Official start of LANROE Neighbourhood watch
Newly Ellected members are: Chair - Adam Fisher, Vice Chair - Alec vd Rheede, Secretary - Adam Haupt, Treasurer - Najma Adams We congratulate them and wish them much success in combating crime and making our neighbourhoods safe for everyone. A few simple tips to follow: •Get to know your neighbours, sharing numbers, emails, general information that can help us create and grow a strong network and ultimately a cohesive community tha can overcome criminal syndicates and opportunists alike. •Actively monitor the quality of SAPS service / your armed response service provider. •Walk around your property and identify your possible 'weak areas'. If you are not sure contact the NHW or your local SAPS sector commander to assist with this. •It may be that foliage or trees surrounding your perimeter fence are thick enough to hide a person close to your entrance gate. Contact Tree Fellers in the magazine and check that your electric fence is working - call Faisec or EFI and check that your gates close effectively and are always locked. Join LanRoe. Business Support
STARTING CAPITAL OR MAKE MY OWN PATH? To many of us starting our own business is the beginning of a dream come true. Just like all other dreams, this one has it's costs. Experience has taught that most people, either do not count the costs correctly or expect others to "pay" their costs. Although the costs involved is not only financial, let's just consider "Start up capital" for a moment. Even here, we are made to believe that this start up capital equals money. Because most emerging business owners do not have the needed finances, we tend to get despondent or even discouraged about starting our businesses. This is because we stare ourselves blind at what we perceive to be the only way instead of considering our options. One of the options we do have, besides loans from financial institutions at ridiculous rates, is using what we have. We tend to overlook the fact that the most important capital we have is known as human capital. People have that
which can be converted into cash. We all have a skill or gift that can be used as trade offs. The fact is that we think that we have to start our businesses in isolation. Somebody out there have what you and I need in order to make our own path.....I have found that its better by far to start businesses with people than with money that "we don't have". People are resourceful and believe me the "pie" is big enough. We need to start thinking about exchanging interest or shares in our businesses for human capital instead of running around frantically, looking for what we believe to be start up capital and then still have to employ people with those skills later at an extra cost.
