Full details of Horse Show Operation - EC, including FEI rules - lists of recognized Judges - other vital information is in the Rule Book copyright for exlusive use of the Recognized Show. Every individual, senior and junior competitor member receives a copy of the Rule Book and is eligible to count points won at Recognized EC shows for Annual Provincial Championship Awards. Every class offered herein is covered by the rules and specifications of the current rulew of EC and will be held and judged in accordance with the EC Rule Book. Any horse entered in any class at a competition may be selected for equine medication control testing while at the event location.

The standard by which conduct or treatment will be measured is that which a person, informed and experienced in generally accepted equine training and exhibition procedures, would determine to be neither cruel, abusive nor inhumane.

There will be a $10.00 fee per horse for incomplete entries. All NSF cheques will be charged a $20.00 NSF plus a $15.00 processing fee. AAHABC reserves the right to report any unpaid NSF cheques to AHA within 21 days of the horse show for which the NSF cheque was written.

The AAHABC Swing into Spring Show is sanctioned as a silver competition of EC, 308 Legget Dr, Suite 100, Ottawa, ON, K2K 1Y6 and is governed by the rules of EC (A602.1) Per Article A801, every entry at an EC sanctioned competition shall constitute an agreement by the person responsible that the owner, lessee, trainer, manager, agent, coach, driver or rider and horse shall be subject to the EC constitution and all rules of EC and any additional rules set by AAHABC (A602.7) All show competitors MUST be a SILVER member of Equine Canada and the Horse Council of B.C. and/or USEF to ensure we don’t jeopardize the AAHABC insurance policy. Associate memberships for EC are no longer valid. Anyone with a lesser membership than silver will have to pay a single event fee of $40.00.

MEMBERSHIP CARDS MUST BE SHOWN. No competitor will be allowed to show without one of the above cards or a paid Temporary EC membership. No pending memberships!

Exhibitors are no longer exempt from Equine Canada membership when exhibiting in halter classes only.

All exhibitors must have AHA membership cards or pay a Single Event Fee of $40.00. All owners, handlers, riders and drivers must have a valid membership card or pay a single event membership fee! You must have either one of these. No affadavits!

Photocopies of all cards and horses registration papers must accompany entries. PROOF OF OWNERSHIP IS REQUIRED; both sides of the papers are needed if the owners name does not appear on the front. A copy of the Canadian registration papers is required to be kept by the show secretary, to be submitted to AHA. Attention: US Exhibitors. Entry fees may be paid in US funds by subtracting 15% of total Canadian dollar fees.

CLASS SPECIFICATIONS: Class Title Definitions: Junior Horse - horse must be five years of age or younger Maiden Horse - horse must not have won a first place in that division Novice Horse - horse must not have won more than three first place ribbons in that division Limit Horse - horse must not have won more than six first place ribbons in that division Halter Division: Entry Fee: $15.00 Judging begins when the first horse enters the ring and its movement is being evaluated and scored. The horse shall enter at a trot and proceed around the arena. Upon each horse reaching the designated position at the far end of the arena, they are to remain relaxed. Horses shall be asked to walk collectively counterclockwise and/or clockwise past each judge. They shall walk in a relaxed manner on a loose lead with the handler at the side of his horse, whips down. The lead line must maintain a discernible drape and the handler must not place his hand on the chain or close enough to in any way restrict the natural head and neck motion. The handler may not unnecessarily impede the forward motion of the horse while at the walk. Following the cessation of the walk all horses shall relax within the ring and only the horse ‘on deck’ shall be prepared to show.

Each horse shall be led to the judge at the walk and presented for judging. Horses shall walk away from the judge and then strike a trot before turning left and proceeding counter clockwise down the rail. They shall resume their relaxed position at the end of the arena. The scores for all categories will be completed, recorded and may be announced at this time. A suitable headstall equipped with throatlatch is mandatory. Horses shown braided must be shown in hunter, show hack or dressage bridle, plain leather show halter or leather stable halter.

Spurs are optional. SADDLERY: Bridles, basic grades – snaffle with either a drop, cavesson, flash or figure eight noseband permitted. On snaffle bridles, the type of reins is optional. All bridles must be correctly fitted (see EC Rule Book, Dressage Division for descriptions and illustrations of permissible snaffle bits.) Saddle: A plain English saddle, black or brown in color only, with stirrups is compulsory in all levels. Martingales or bearing, side or running reins of any kind are forbidden, as are bandages, boots or any kind of blinkers. Whips (no longer than 120 cm) may be carried at this show in Dressage. Test readers may be used if provided by the exhibitor. Current dressage tests will be used. Passports are not required by Arabian or Half Arabian horses at this show. Limited times are available for tests and they will be assigned on a first come first serve basis. Dressage times will be available from Marla Patterson on May 4th, 2016 at (604) 574-3785 or on the AAHABC facebook page. No calls after 9 pm, please! Test times will be strictly enforced.

DRESS: required apparel: suitable western hat, long sleeved shirt with any type of collar: short sleeves may be worn at the discretion of the judge. Trousers, pants, a one-piece long sleeved equitation suit provided it includes a collar. Boots. SADDLERY: Any western type headstall must be used. Bosals are permitted on a horse of any age at any level. Native and national bridles are permitted. Bitless bridles of Western style made of leather. Split reins on any bit. Romal reins are appropriate only with a curb bit and can only be ridden with one hand. Saddle: A standard stock saddle, national, working saddle, Aussie, native or western side saddle is to be used but silver equipment will not count over a good working outfit. A horn is not required but western style fenders are required. Tapaderos are permitted, except in Western Dressage Equitation. Whips: one whip no longer than 47.2 inches (120 cm) including lash, is permitted in all Classes/Tests. All horses will be required to undergo a tack and equipment check by the Steward after each test.

UNDER SADDLE: Informal dressage or hunter attire required. Rider may carry a whip/crop, maximum length four feet. Horses shown under saddle are required to compete in a hunter or dressage type bridle with a snaffle, with or without cheeks, keepers allowed; or a pelham. Flash nosebands are acceptable, in dressage attire, when using a snaffle bridle with a snaffle bit. Martingales of any type prohibited, breastplates permitted. To this end, all gaits must be performed with willingness and obvious ease, cadence, balance and smoothness.To enter ring at a normal trot. To be shown at a Walk, Normal Trot and Canter. Open will be asked for the Strong Trot and Hand Gallop. Light contact must be maintained with all reins at all gaits. A judge may not request that these gaits be performed only on the snaffle or curb. No cross entry with country pleasure. No hunt attire. Junior Horses are to be judged on quality, performance, attitude, and manners. All other categories to be judged on manners, performance, attitude, quality, suitability of horse to rider, and conformation.

Country Pleasure: Entry Fee $15.00 OPEN: To enter ring at a normal trot. To be shown at a walk, normal trot, strong trot, canter and hand gallop.

To be judged on attitude, manners, performance, quality and conformation. It is imperative that the horse give the distinct appearance of being a pleasure to ride. A quiet, responsive mouth is paramount.

AOTR,JOTR, JTR: do not strong trot or hand gallop. To be judged on attitude, manners, performance, quality, conformation and suitability of horse to rider.

SELECT: Has not received more than 100 AHA Achievement Points and has not leveled out of the National Select Amateur Level. If a rider is eligible to compete as a Select Rider in a respective section on December 1 of the previous year, said eligibility remains throughout the competition year

JUNIOR HORSE: to be judged on attitude, manners, quality and performance.

It is mandatory in all classes that horses be asked to halt on the rail, stand quietly, back and walk off on a loose rein. No cross entry with English pleasure. No hunt attire. Day coat permitted.

Ranch Horse Division: Entry Fee $ 15.00 The purpose of Ranch Horse Riding should reflect the versatility, attitude and movement of a working ranch horse.

The horse’s performance should simulate a horse working outside the confines of an arena and that of a working ranch horse. This class should show the horse’s ability to work at a forward, working speed while under control of the rider.

Light contact should be rewarded and the horse shall not be shown on a full drape of reins. The overall manners and responsiveness of the horse while performing the maneuver requirements and the horse’s quality of movement are the primary considerations.

The required maneuvers will include the walk, jog and lope both directions; and the extended jog and extended lope going at least one direction; as well as stops and a back.

TBA Classes: All TBA Classes must be sponsored to run. A class will require a sponsorship of $20.00. Sponsorships are in addition to the class entry fee.

POSSIBLE TBA CLASSES: Any AHA recognized classes in all Arabian and Half Arabian divisions excluding: dressage, working cow, reined cow, cutting, informal/formal combination, working hunter, jumper, carriage driving, combined driving, eventing, games, liberty There will be no championships run at the AAHABC Swing into Spring Horse Show in 2020.

AAHABC RULES & REGULATIONS: 1.

NO SMOKING in the barns.

2.

All entry and stabling fees, copy of registration papers, amateur cards and numbers, AHA cards and numbers, EC/USEF cards and numbers MUST accompany entry forms for all owners, riders and handlers. A $10.00 fee will be charged on incomplete entries!

3.

Horse Show Office and Stabling Chart will be located at the south end of the Indoor Show Arena. Exhibitors putting horses in stalls not assigned to them will have all entries forfeited. NO changing or removing of stall name cards! A stabling chart will be posted in the both barns and Portables (if applicable), as well as at the show office. Sawdust will be provided.

4.

Exhibitors must park their cars, trucks and horse trailers only in the designated areas. NO VEHICLES IN THE HOLDING AREA AND BARN ACCESS WAYS DURING SHOW HOURS!!!

5.

All classes to be judged under current EC rules, unless otherwise stated. Rules not covered by the Arabian division of the Rule Book will be covered under their respective EC class division.

6.

Should any question or dispute arise not provided for in the governing rules, the same shall be referred to the Steward and Show Committee whose decision shall be final.

7.

Every class offered herein which is covered by the Rules and Specifications of the EC and will be held and judged in accordance with the EC Rule Book (A602.2).

8.

All entry forms must be completed and signed. NO entry form will be accepted UNLESS SIGNED BY PARENT OR GUARDIAN OF JUNIOR EXHIBITORS WHERE INDICATED. Juniors must give name, age and date of birth on entry form.

9.

There will be no refund of entry fees if horses are withdrawn after official date of closing, unless a Veterinarian’s Certificate is presented to the Entry Secretary up to and including the final day of the show.

Doctor’s Certificate’s will be honored for Equitation riders only, but must be presented before the conclusion of the show. All queries must be directed to the Show Committee. $ 10.00 or 10%, whichever is greater, will be withheld from all cancelled entries. NO REFUND OF STABLING!

10.

The Show Committee reserves the right to cancel classes with insufficient entries: Halter classes - less than four (4); Performance classes - less than six (6); or to combine it with another class, or to divide a class if necessary. In the event that a class is cancelled due to lack of entries, the whole entry fee will be returned and exhibitors notified accordingly.

11.

The Show Committee reserves the right to change the order of a class, if necessary. Contestants would be notified, by public announcement, at least 1 class session prior to the change. Classes cannot be held earlier than scheduled unless all entries in that class sign off.

12.

It is each exhibitor’s responsibility to keep informed with possible class/schedule changes and delays.

All changes will be announced. It is up to each individual to be ready and on time for his/her classes!

13.

All horses entered must be registered with either the Canadian Partbred Registry, AHA or CAHR. (Arabians with AHA or CAHR; Half & Anglo Arabians with AHA or Canadian Partbred Registry). Registration numbers must appear on the entry forms and contestants MUST show proof of registration and ownership prior to receiving their numbers. No entry numbers will be given out unless copies of these are produced at the show office. (A602.1).

14.

All horses must be serviceably sound. In the case of suspected unsoundness, the Judge may have the animal examined by the Show Veterinarian and the decision of the Show Veterinarian shall be final. If the Veterinarian is not on hand, the decision of the judge shall be final. In case the veterinarian finds the horse in question unsound, the bill shall be the responsibility of the horse owner. In case the horse in question is deemed fit to show, the bill shall be the responsibility of AAHABC.

15.

The use of chains, rollers or similar devices on the show grounds during or before a show is prohibited and the Show Committee shall bar violators from further participation for the remainder of the entire show. Shoeing regulations are as per EC Rule Book.

16.

All horses and riders must be appropriately attired or will not be permitted to enter the ring.

17.

Each exhibitor is responsible for arriving in the holding area promptly after the class is called by the Whipper-In. A class will be called no more than three (3) times and anyone arriving for a class once the gates are closed will not be permitted to enter the ring, nor will they have their entry fee refunded. Upon entrance of the first horse, a ‘two minute’ gate will be adhered to.

18.

There shall be no conferring with the Judge prior to or during the show. If anyone desires to meet the Judge, this can be arranged through the Show Steward. A protest must be in writing and must be ad-

dressed to the Secretary of the Show, and be accompanied by a $ 100.00 deposit in cash or a certified cheque. It must be filed within forty-eight (48) hours of occurrence of the alleged violation in the class concerned. All protests will be handled according to the EC Rule Book.

19.

Any horse entered in any class at a competition may be selected for equine medication control testing while at the event location (A602.5).

20.

Horses shall not be punished unnecessarily anywhere on the show grounds. Rules regarding cruelty and abuse covered by the EC will be strictly enforced.

21.

The Show Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry. Upon any act of discourtesy or disobedience to the Officials on the part of any owner, groom, rider, handler, driver, etc., the owner may forfeit his/her entry and such action will be reported to the EC and AHA. The management reserves to itself the right to remove any handler or horse from the show without being liable for compensation.

22.

All dogs must be kept on a leash while on the show grounds. Please pick up after your dog.

23.

Bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, golf carts, etc. are allowed on the show grounds but prohibited from operating near or in the showring, warm-up rings, stabling areas. Minors who do not have a valid drivers license which allows them to operate a motorized vehicle are not permitted to operate a motorized vehicle of any kind on the show grounds. The parent(s), legal guardian(s) or individual who signs the entry blank as a parent/guardian of a minor operating a motorized vehicle in violation of this rule are solely responsible for any damages, claims, losses or actions resulting from that operation.

No riding of horses into the stabling areas

25.

All horses artificially, improperly or unfairly prepared or tampered with before coming in the show area will be disqualified. If it is ascertained that an exhibitor has made, or caused to be made, any false statement in regard to any animal or article exhibited or if any exhibitor shall attempt to interfere with the Judge in performance of his/her duties, he/she shall be excused from competing or exhibiting.

26.

All American exhibitors are advised to check into Border regulations well in advance. Please do not write cheques payable in Canadian funds as we are heavily penalized by the banks with service charges. US cheques in US funds or Canadian money orders are acceptable and appreciated.

27.

All horses entered in any AHA approved show shall be owned, handled, ridden or driven by a member of AHA or the horse owner, rider, driver or handler shall pay an additional SINGLE EVENT FEE of $ 65.00 per horse that he/she rides, drives, handles or owns to each AHA show. Juniors are no longer exempt.

28.

The Veterinarian will be on call and at the expense of the exhibitor calling him. Payment must be made at the time of service for medical attention rendered and is to be paid by the owner or the agent of the horse. VET PERMIT: No Veterinarian other than the official Show Veterinarian will be permitted to treat, medicate, or attend to a horse on the grounds without the expressed written permission of the show management/official veterinarian. Exhibitors wishing to use another veterinarian must designate the farm or training stable the veterinarian will be working for, and obtain a permit for that veterinarian at the show office. Any veterinarian on the show grounds to treat horses must register with the official Show Veterinarian and must record, in writing, with the official show veterinarian, the name of the horse(s), owner, trainer and treatment of said horse(s) on the official form available at the show office or the official show veterinarian. The examination and treatment record used by the examining veterinarian can be substituted for the official form. 29.

All exhibitors shall be under the direction and control of the Show Committee but solely at the risk of the exhibitor. The AAHABC, the BC Classic Show, the Hot 2 Trot Show, the Fall Frolic Show, Club functions or any other of the sponsors of any of the shows will not be held responsible for injury, loss or theft. Each exhibitor will be solely responsible for loss, injury, damage done to; occasioned by; or arising from; any animal exhibited by him/her and shall indemnify the AAHABC, The BC Classic Show, the Hot 2 Trot show, the Fall Frolic Show, Club functions, the Thunderbird Show Park and Show Sponsors against legal or other proceedings in regard hereto.

30.

Junior exhibitors are not eligible to ride in Adult Amateur Owner (AAOTR) or Adult Amateur (AATR) classes. Where entries warrant, the Show Committee reserves the right to split Amateur Owner To Ride (AOTR) classes into Junior Owner To Ride (JOTR) and Adult Amateur Owner To Ride (AAOTR).

AAOTR classes may be split into 19 - 39 and 40 & Over.

31.

WHIP ABUSE: Judges will be required to excuse from the ring any horse shown at halter or performance that possesses a whip mark (welt) on any portion of its body. Rule 3-12: Any person reported to the

Show Management as abusing a horse with a whip or other such devices, whether it be in the stable area, trailer area, hitching ring, warm up ring or show ring; and causing a disturbance as to affect the conduct and safety of other horses, and/or exhibitors, and/or spectators, shall be liable to disciplinary action. Such action may vary from a warning to expulsion from the ring, to suspension of a number of shows, to report to EPRB. NO ABUSE of horses shall be tolerated! In the event that this division fails to have a rule to cover a situation or where the rule is contradictory or ambiguous, then the Steward/ Judge/ Show Officials shall refer to the current AHA handbook for guidance.

32.

Lungeing is allowed in the designated lungeing areas only! No exceptions!

33.

All adult entrants riding in AOTR/ATR classes MUST have ‘Amateur Status’ indicated on their current EC card to participate in any Amateur divisions. When applying for your EC membership, be sure to fill out the Amateur Application section.

34.

All horses ridden at Thunderbird Show Park during the AAHABC rental period must be appropriately saddled, bridled and ridden in a safe manner. Riders must wear appropriate footwear when riding. Riders not following this rule may forfeit entries.

35.

Riders must dismount prior to entering stabling areas.

36.

Gateholds must be asked for and approved at least 3 classes prior. Gate holds are approved by the whipper in and show manager. Gate holds will only be granted for tack, rider or horse changes. Gateholds, if granted are 3 minutes only. That, added to the 2 minute open gate, provides a total of 5 minutes.

37.

Horses that are NOT competing in the show may not be brought on to the show grounds without permission of Show Management.

ATTENTION AMERICAN EXHIBITORS It is easy to cross the border. Take Exit 275 off I-5, for the Pacific Crossing. You can also use Sumas and Aldergrove. Pacific and Sumas are open 24/7. Aldergrove is open from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.

To cross the border into Canada, you are required to have a United States origin Health Certificate, V.S. Form 17-40. The date it is issued must not be more than thirty (30) days prior to export. The certificate must have a USDA seal in the bottom left hand corner.

You must also have a valid Coggins test, which is good for up to one hundred and eighty (180) days from the date it is issued.

Prior to stopping at the Canadian Customs crossing, check with the American Customs office. It is suggested, not required, that at that time you leave them a list of tack and equipment in your trailer, which will make your return through the border somewhat faster. Proceed to the Canadian Customs office and have your papers checked. Returning home, go straight through to the American Customs office. It is NOT necessary to have a Veterinarian inspection if you are in Canada less than thirty (30) days. However, if you plan to be over thirty (30) days from the date the horses were checked at your farm, not crossing the border, you must have the above documents and meet the Veterinarian at the border for inspection between the hours of 8:00-10:00 AM, or 3:00-4:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
