Pioneer Days Grand Marshal

Every year, the Pioneer Days celebration honors a community member or a couple who exemplify the pioneer spirit and ideals of our community of hard work, service to others and a devotion to family. This year is no exception. It is our honor to introduce to you, this year’s Fremont County Pioneer Days Grand Marshals, Chester and Patsy Peterson! Both Chester and his wife Patsy were born and raised in St. Anthony, Idaho. Their extended companionship began when the were both attending a 4-H Camp as teenagers. The relationship blossomed and they were eventually married July 13, 1968 making this year their 50 th anniversary. They were blessed with 5 children. Tiffanee Gould, Ryan Peterson (Nicole), Candice Lords, Bart Peterson and Taylor Kunz (Keith). Currently, Chester and Patsy have 10 grandchildren whom they refer to as “their pride and joy”. Chester was drafted into the Army and served his country as a Specialist during the Vietnam war. As the result of his dedication to his country, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his heroic service in a combat zone engaging the enemy on the front lines. After his tour of duty ended, he returned to his hometown to settle down. Chester was born to be a teacher. He taught elementary school in the city of Teton later becoming their principal. Chester concluded his long and successful career of 48 years as the principal of South Fremont Junior High School. He still holds a strong connection with the schools and students through his unselfish commitment to coaching softball. He loves working with the youth and his passion for it shows with everything he does. Chester has always had a talent for making learning fun. Patsy too, has served her community throughout her entire adult life through her efforts in local programs dedicated to assisting children in need, most prominently, her work with the Migrant Education Program. Her infectious personality draws people in like a magnet. She is famous for making friends in any situation she finds herself. Today Patsy divides her time between being a loving wife, mother and grandmother while still finding time to remain active as a member of International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers in which she’s held many leadership positions. Chester and Patsy are actively engaged in their faith as they are within their community, both believing in and exemplifying the term service and do so with every ounce of energy they have. They are admired by their family, their friends and neighbors and the community in which they live. Their children will tell you that they cannot go anywhere where someone doesn’t recognize them and the conversations begin. Chester and Patsy both have a love for sports, especially baseball and it’s their dream one day to see a game in every major league stadium. As a testament to their love and devotion, their children all say that, “They are blessed to have the best parents ever, who are the greatest examples in all that they do”!
