Canyon One of the elementary schools in our area held a field day for the students in the TLC program, we were invited to help run the festivities. Each of us were to help run a station, both encouraging and helping the kids finish the task at hand. Before we started, the director of the field day told all the volunteers we were going to learn quite a bit from watching the kids, and I’m not going to lie, I was a little hesitant at first. Little did I know, by the end of the day, my perspective had completely changed on children with mental and physical handicaps, giving me a new outlook on what it means to be a leader. The station I was in charge of monitoring was the Mashed Potato Race, a race in which the students were to run to a laundry basket, carrying a potato in a ladle, put that potato into the basket, and then run back, crossing the finish line to finish. It was a very simple concept, but at the same time, very fun for the participants. Early on, it was clear to see that the students had varying levels of ability. Some of the students were able to perform the task with no problems whatsoever, while others struggled to even keep their potato on the ladle. To my surprise, as nearly all of the students finished, they went back, leading the students who were having difficulties to the finish line. They guided their friends every step of the way, helping whenever it was needed, opening my eyes to a new meaning on what the position of a leader entails. [4]

Div. 7 & 33
This May, Randall got to participate in a
Canyon High School, Randall High
5K that helped raise money for Snack
School, and Tascosa drove to Fritch,
Pak for Kids. Key Club members helped
Texas on May 23rd. Due to the fires that
direct traffic and guide runners to where
destroyed their community, there were
they needed to go as well as cheer them
thousands of donations that were being
along. “We had a lot of fun cheering the runners on and blasting music for them to run to and dancing ourselves, says Key Club member Brittany Tu. Randall
held in a adonded elementary school. They asked us to come and sort all of the donations they had so that anyone effected by the fires could easily come to the school and get everything they
Key Club members hope volunteer for the needed. This experience showed as all Snack Pak for Kids 5K again next year. how fortunate we are.

SOCIAL
member of the month!
School: Canyon High School Position: Editor
Kendall Tipton!
Years in Key Club: Grade: Class of 2015 Lesser Known Fact: He can tell you facts about the Duke Lacrosse Team
Guitar Hero, and Real Heroes Saturday, May 24th Canyon, Palo Duro, Randall, and Tascosa High School came together and real lived their childhood memories. We ate and played as many arcade games as possible. Even though our original plan was to play sand volleyball, it turned out to be just as fun.
Most Embarrassing Moment: Threw up in a towel instead of trash can and had to hold the towel all the way to Oklahoma. Why Kendall?: I can’t think of one service project, social, or meeting that I attend that Kendall wasn’t there. Besides his determined work ethic, he truly has a heart to serve. The first time I met Kendall he was shy and a bit reserved but I saw him grow during DCON and learned his genuine personality. One simple act of kindness he showed was at the social at Mr. Gattis. We were all discussing how many tickets we had earned and what prize we were going to trade them in for. Kendall said, “I think I’m just going to give mine to the kids here.” This explains Kendall perfectly. I am thankful for his natural heart to serve and have loved watching his love for Key Club grow!

Summer PCM Pizza will be provided but we need attendees to bring $2. Following the meeting we will play bingo and eat ice cream with the residents.

CLAIRMONT RETIREMENT HOME 11 am “What I like about older generations is being able to hear their experiences. The world changes with every new generation. We have technology now that they didn’t have be we all still have some of the same problems. They gone though so much so they have so much to say. Their experience and knowledge is something we don’t have and we can learn from it. “
