CHAPTER 1 ALL ABOUT THE TITANIC

The Titanic was a very large ship it could carry thousands of people. ​

Ruth Becker was a survivor on the Titanic. The Titanic was the most elegant ship of its time. The Titanic is the only ship to sink from an iceberg. In 1912 it sank in the North Atlantic ocean. The Titanic sank because of an iceberg and a mirage is what made it so they could not see it in till it was right in front of it. It left Southampton, England and sank April 15th, 1912.


CHAPTER 2 INSIDE THE TITANIC

There were 2,220 passengers and crew enjoying her maiden voyage. First class was the rich and they were treated the best. Second class room’s were in the aft (rear ship) these rooms were smaller and less elegant. Third class was mostly immigrants. They got treated the worst and had the smallest rooms. The swimming pool was in the middle of the ship. There were several dining rooms. There was a grand staircase and lights were plated gold. There was a band that played every night. There was a hospital on board. There was a barber shop and reading and writing rooms. A mechanical horse was on board for the first class children. There were water tight doors but they did not work when the Titanic went down. There were many things on the Titanic to see and do.


CHAPTER 3 ​ STORIES THAT NEED TOLD

There are many stories about the Titanic and its survivors. Violet Jessop worked on the Titanic. She survived the sinking. She also worked on both of the Titanic's sister ships. In 1910 she worked on the Olympic when it had a major accident. She was also on the Britannic in 1916 and survived its sinking. Edmond and his brother Michel Navratil were traveling with their father under a false name. He was trying to fool his wife he left behind in France. Their father died in the sinking. Their mother recognized their picture in the newspaper and sailed to America to get them. 17 year old Jack Thayer lost track of his parents in the chaos on the ship that night. He tried to board a lifeboat but was turned away. As the ship was sinking he decided to jump into the water. He swam to a capsized lifeboat and was pulled on. He and his mother survived. He said the Titanic broke in two when it sank. Most people did not believe him until it was discovered in 1985.These are just a few of the stories about the Titanic and its survivors.


CHAPTER 4 ​ REASONS THE TITANIC’S IMPORTANT

The Titanic is important because it is the only ship that sank from hitting an iceberg. A lot of people thought it was unsinkable. The iceberg it hit is still afloat today. The Titanic was finally discovered by Dr.Robert Ballard on September 1,1985. The Titanic is important because it brought better safety to ships. The U.S. thought they should carry enough lifeboats for all passengers and have lifeboat drills. They should carry two searchlights and have 24 hour wireless operations. The British recommended changes to the watertight compartments. Look outs should have regular eye exams. And lifeboats should be provided for every one. In 1914 they formed an international ice patrol. It’s job is to find and track icebergs. The Titanic is also important because everyone on board had their lives changed. 1,522 people died. Only 705 survived. The Titanic is important because it is the only ship that sank from hitting an iceberg. A lot of people thought it was unsinkable. The iceberg it hit is still afloat today. The Titanic was finally discovered by Dr.Robert Ballard on September 1,1985. We have gotten to learn and hear the many stories of the Titanic and it’s passengers.
