THESIS
The proposal thus inquires into new strategies, that yearn for a more patrimony-responsive design, along with providing the flexibility and adaptability to the public space, like it once traditionally offered. Tekax has a strong relationship with and influence on sever al satellite towns around. We believe that the plaza design in Tekax can perform as a catalyst, and inform design of public spaces in other towns across the peninsula.

The Yucatan Initiative 2018
We take a position to map and catalog the tangible, the built environment we’ve encoun tered in the Yucatan. Simultaneously, we also aspire to design within the intangible discourse of preservation celebrating and utilizing craftsmanship within the rhythms and cycles of Yucatan. While we value heritage & patrimony, we also challenge ourselves to look ahead, & reimagine vernacular traditions through contemporary design. Our intention is to design for the unprescribed changes the Mayan communities of the Yucatan will encounter within their own timeline of histor y and culture.
