MOMA: Design and the Elastic Mind

[Idea Development] Design and the Elastic Mind: MOMA

When beginning the brief I wanted to incorporate some form of line and geometry into my screensaver. Reason being as I thought itcould be visually appealing when relating to screensaver.I began researching existing screensavers and came across a few that caught my eye. One of which was called ‘electric sheep’. I was inspired by the various colours, shapes and patterns but it didn’t fit as to what exactly I wanted to show.

As research continued I came across a piece of work on the ‘moma’ website called the origami crease patterns. I enjoyed the visual aspect of seeing how lines created shapes and progressing by creating more as they overlapped and increased.

The reason I chose to base my design around line/geometry Is because I think visually it can have an interesting effect on the eye in the way many shapes and patterns are created.

Here are some sketches I drew during the process of my idea. The first shows an overall idea I had in mind, then progressing on following the three other sketches. I wanted to experiment with shape and geometric art and see what kind of result I could get.

These are sketches of my screensaver. It represents different patterns and geometrical shapes continuously being created. I wanted to show a feel of progression through the constant change of lines joining one another. Again I was inspired to create this from looking at works such as the electric sheep and the origami crease patterns.
