A group of the UK’s top tax fugitives have been brought back to the UK to face justice following a global HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) initiative. Of the ‘Most Wanted’ fugitives who fled abroad before or during their trial, five have been brought back to the UK in the past year to serve their prison terms. Building on this success, HMRC published more photos of Britain’s Most Wanted tax fugitives, including Ahmed Salim Khezri from Illminster, Rochdale, Greater Manchester, and asking for the public to play their part in helping to track these criminals down. Khezri, an Iranian national, is wanted in connection with a huge cigarette smuggling conspiracy. He was part of an organised crime group that stood trial at Manchester Crown Court, found guilty in his absence and sentenced to a six year jail term in April 2014. His part in the fraud is estimated at over £2.2 million. Wanted list have been charged but fled the country to avoid justice, so it’s excellent news for all honest taxpayers that five fugitives on last year’s list have now been brought back to face the consequences. This is down to the determination of our people with the help and support of the general public. “We would like to thank the public for that help, and ask them to look at the 2014 list and help us to bring back the rest. “These fugitives were involved in frauds that have collectively cost the UK over £844 million but the success of our campaign means those on the run should know that HMRC will relentlessly pursue them.” In the two years since HMRC first published the images of its top tax fraud absconders, three million public viewings have resulted directly in the capture of some of the fugitives. In addition, HMRC now knows where 16 of the Most Wanted fugitives are. Where legally possible, HMRC will seek extraditions with the help of the Crown Prosecution Service and other partners, both in the UK and overseas to ensure as many are brought back to the UK as possible.

Primary school teacher strangled to death A woman who was found critically injured at her Stockport home has sadly died. At around 1.50am on Monday 18th August 2014, police were called to Longford Road West, in north Reddish, following reports a 35-yearold woman had been attacked. Officers attended and the woman, now formally identified as Ruckshana Miah, was taken to hospital where she sadly died. A Home Office post mortem concluded her death was as a result of compression on the neck. Abdul Kashem Miah, 36, of Florist Street, Shaw Heath, appeared at Stockport Magistrates Court and was charged with attempted murder. He is next due to appear at Manchester Crown Court Crown Square on 10th September 2014. Detective Chief Inspector Howard Millington, said: “Sadly Ruckshana's injuries proved fatal and a murder investigation is now underway. “Her family are clearly devastated and we would ask they be given time and space to grieve and come to terms with her tragic death. “Ruckshana was a mother to two young children, who now face having

to grow up and live the rest of their lives without her, and that is simply heartbreaking.” In a statement her family, said: “Ruckshana was a wonderful daughter, mother, sister, aunty, cousin and friend that will be greatly missed by us all.” Des Howlett, Head Teacher of Broadoak Primary School where Rukshana worked, said: “Rukshana Miah was a wonderful and talented teacher at Broadoak Primary School in Ashton who touched the lives of everyone she met. “Rukshana was the heart of the school, an outstanding teacher who was devoted to the success of the children that she taught. “She always wanted to be the best and for her children to be the best and her belief that anything was possible if you work hard enough had an impact on everyone she met. “Ruk was full of life and passion for the children that she taught and friends that she made. That same wonderful smile greeted every challenge, every child and every joke alike and her many friends knew that their friendships were firm and valuable.

“She made us laugh and will continue to do so as we share memories and remember her jokes. We were and always will be extremely proud of having Rukshana as a teacher at our school and as a friend. “She was a natural teacher and a great friend and colleague. We are all very proud to have known her. “Ruk herself would always say that her greatest achievement was her children and her love and pride for them shone through every day. She was a fantastic mother who knew that time was precious and so was always doing something with them or taking them to places. “They were her life and made her laugh whether she liked it or not. She brought them up to be respectful and polite but they have Ruk’s own wonderful cheekiness and sense of fun. They will continue to be a credit to her. “Her loss is absolutely devastating. Ruk was the best of us and will always be remembered. Our thoughts are with Ruk’s children and family at this terrible time. Broadoak will be a sadder place without her, we have lost one of the best.”

For the past three years there has undoubtedly been only one place in the country which deserves to call itself the Curry Capital of Britain - Bradford. With an array of restaurants serving up the finest dishes to curry lovers nationwide, the city has earned itself a valued reputation as a dining hot spot. And now, with the 12th annual Curry Capital competition underway, 20 teams, made up of four restaurants each, will once again compete for the top prize. Bradford council is already actively promoting the city, but face tough competition from the likes of Leicester, Birmingham, Cardiff, parts of London and even relative newcomer Brighton. Glasgow, who hold four titles, the same number as Bradford, will be side-lined this year due to their hosting of the Commonwealth Games giving the Yorkshire city a further incentive to win this year. Peter Grove, organiser of Curry Capital of Britain for National Curry Week in October, said this year’s competition is likely to be the toughest yet.

Let’s make it happen.” Tricia Tillotson, Bradford Council’s Tourism Manager added: “Coming to Bradford for a curry is not only for residents of Bradford, but is also on the ‘to do’ list for many tourists. “Winning the title again can only help to continue to boost the reputation of Bradford as a place to come for a great curry.” The winner of this year’s contest will be announced on 20th October.

Last year he rocked the First Direct Arena and now, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is ready to perform once again as he returns as part of the Back to Love Tour. With thousands of tickets already sold to see the world renowned king of Qawwali and Sufi music, Rahat will take to the stage on Saturday 30th August in his only performance in the north of England. Following on from last year’s electric night, the musical maestro will be aiming to recreate the same infectious energy he and his Qawwali band generated last September in what’s sure to be a memorable evening. A whole range of Bollywood songs and heartfelt melodious tunes will be performed from his new album, whilst audience members may also be treated to some classic favourites. international relations, he said. On that index: “Muslim countries do very badly,” he said and accused them of using religion as an instrument of power. Cyclist conquers iconic route in latest charity challenge

A self-proclaimed ‘cycling novice’ took on a challenge very few keen cyclists will have even comprehended as he made his way from Lands End to John O’Groats all in the name of By Ashley Grint charity. ashley@asianexpress.co.uk 27-year-old Naheem Yacub, from Burley, set himself the target at the start of the year to complete a total of 2,313 miles within 12 months. Raising money for the British Red Cross and Leeds Children’s Hospital, his task has so far seen him run marathon distances on a daily basis whilst this latest epic bike ride has pushed him well and beyond the half way target. “The furthest I had been on a bike before this was around 25 miles and that was in March so you could SITES: Along the way, Naheem say I was going into the rode over an array of terrain from challenge unprepared,” he flat bridges to steep roads said. “It has only now just begun to sink in that I travelled 1,010 miles in two weeks purely through leg power. “It goes to show that if you put your mind to it, you can do anything really.” Beginning his route at the southern most point of the country, Naheem joined up with a team of cyclists who were preparing to complete the journey at the same time. Through downpours of rain, and over hilly terrain, the cyclists rode for 14 days non-stop before finally reaching their goal in the north of Scotland at the iconic John O’Groats. Setting off on the bikes everyday at around 8.30am, the group stopped only three times during each leg to have lunch and a small ‘breather’ before continuing on their route. At times, Naheem says the temptation to just stop did come over him but he was always given that bit of extra motivation to continue. “After the first day my legs were in agony and it was making it really hard to sleep because I had never done anything like this before,” he said. “The hills were just going on forever and were really taking it out of me. One thing that kept me going was these two elderly cyclists in the group who had come all the way from America to do the route. “One was 71 and the other 74, and I just thought if they have the motivation and will to do this, then so do I.” He added: “At times rain was coming down heavily and it literally felt like someone was throwing stones at you. “I just thought of the children

1,400 children exploited by Asian gangs A damning report, released earlier this week, has accused senior officials in South Yorkshire of turning a ‘blind eye’ to paedophile gangs operating in Rotherham for the past 16 years. Police and council bosses have been labelled as the ones at fault for an estimated 1,400 children, as young as 11-years-old, being raped, abducted and trafficked to other towns and cities. The report, commissioned by Rotherham Borough Council and written by Professor Alexis Jay, revealed there had been ‘blatant’ collective failures which had ‘underplayed’ the scale of the problem. Three reports had been released, between 2002 and 2006, indicating the magnitude of the issue yet Prof Jay said they were suppressed because senior officials did not believe the data due to a ‘culture of disbelief’. Council leader, Roger Stone, who has held his role for the past 11 years, said he would step down with immediate effect. He said: “I believe it is only right that as leader I take responsibility for the historic failings described so clearly.” Prof Alexis Jay's report also revealed that a disproportionate number of men of Pakistani origin were the perpetrators in Rotherham. Top grades and a baby as well It wasn’t only teenagers collecting their GCSE results earlier this week, with adult learners across the country also finding out whether they had made the grade. In Halifax, Riyma Raziq was celebrating after achieving an A* in GCSE maths and a B in English, which she studied for at Calderdale Council’s Adult Learning Centre. To make things that extra bit special, just two days after Riyma’s final exam, she gave birth to a little baby boy. With aspirations of working in a school, the 35-year-old is well on her way to obtaining the required grades and has further plans to continue studying in the future. She had been volunteering as a non-teaching assistant at Cross Lane primary School and so was completing evening classes. Speaking after opening her grades, Riyma said: “I want to be a primary school teacher, so I need my GCSEs in English, maths and science. When I found out about

the courses at Calderdale Adult Learning, I called the Council straight away. “I met with a tutor who helped me choose the best courses for me. I started GCSE maths and English classes last September at Horton House Adult Learning Centre in Halifax. “The best part was the tutors. At first I was nervous because it was a different environment, and I wondered if I would be able to do the work, but my tutors really helped me through and motivated me from the start. “They gave me constant feedback on my work and helped me to improve, which prepared me for the exams. “It was great being around other learners who were my age and in a similar situation to me. We all helped each other, had fun during classes and have stayed in touch. “Being pregnant while studying wasn’t a problem for me – I just carried on, even when I was overdue during my exams.” Riyma adds that she now has

This is called the ‘accelerated procedure’, which will normally take about 8-10 weeks. In any event the court can make a possession order ordering eviction of the property provided you have proved the ground you rely on and it is reasonable to do so in all the circumstances. The sky’s the limit A high-flying pupil form Pudsey is preparing to take to the skies later this year after piloting his way to success in his A Level exams. Rajandeep Grewal, of Fulneck School, has had his heart set on becoming a pilot for a few years now and has now moved one step closer to fulfilling that dream after results day last week. For the past 18 months, the 18-year-old has been taking weekly flying lessons as the Multi-flight Flight Training Centre at Leeds Bradford Airport, alongside fellow student, Jedd Waterson. The pair were both celebrating on Thursday 14th August after opening their results envelope to reveal top grades, allowing them continue their aviation training. Both teenagers will now head to Oxford for the continuation of their studies, yet unlike others from the area, they will not be attending the world renowned university. Litter Pickers Community comes together to tidy up Marsden

Young people from Huddersfield got their brooms and litter pickers at the ready earlier this month as they took part in a community cleanup project. Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) teamed up with local MP Jason McCartney, and other volunteers to help tidy up the streets of Marsden. In total, ten AMYA members from Huddersfield and Spen Valley took part in the one hour, lunchtime litter pick as part of volunteer week.

‘Valued’ nurse returns to UK for treatment of potentially deadly disease

A nurse from Britain, who contracted the deadly Ebola virus whilst working as an aid volunteer in Sierra Leone, has returned to England to be treated at a London hospital. The patient, 29-year-old William Pooley, had been volunteering in the country after local medics were afraid of the potential risk of infection. He is believed to have helped save the lives of dozens of people by helping to ensure a vital hospital near the centre of the outbreak did not close down. Upon returning to the UK, he was taken into an isolation unit at the Royal Free Hosptial, in Hampstead, where his condition is described as ‘not seriously unwell’. A spokesman for Sierra Leone's ministry of health, Yahya Tunis, yesterday said Mr Pooley had been working in Kenema in eastern Sierra Leone, one of the areas hardest hit by Ebola which has now been quarantined. “His colleagues are very sad over the development as he is considered as a valued member,” Tunis said, adding that he was involved in ‘surveillance, contact tracing and the

burial of Ebola victims’. A statement from Mr Pooley’s family was released shortly after his return to his home country, thanking those involved in bringing their son ‘home’. “We would like to express our thanks to all involved in bringing our son back to the UK,” the statement read. “We have been astounded by the speed and way which the various international and UK government agencies have worked together to get Will home. “Will is receiving excellent care at the Royal Free Hospital and we could not ask for him to be in a better place. “We would like to thank all our family and friends for their best wishes and ask everyone to remember those in other parts of the world suffering with Ebola who do not have access to the same health care facilities as Will.” To date, more than 1,400 people have died from the virus since its first fatality in March, with the World Health Organisation (WHO) saying it could take months to bring the epidemic under control.

Following a successful prosecution earlier this month, Wakefield Council are warning residents not to illegally dispose of their waste. The reminder comes after a young man was convicted of fly tipping and given a sentence of 60 hours of unpaid community work along with a fine for dumping waste in the south of the district. Man wanted for questioning in connection with teen offences

Police have released a series of CCTV stills to identify a man they would like to speak to in connection with a series of sex offences taking place on the same bus route between Cleckheaton and Dewsbury. Detective Constable Joe Aspinall, from Dewsbury CID, said: “In one incident, which took place between 8.35am and 8.51am on 30th July, the suspect boarded the 268 bus from a stop outside Peacocks clothes shop in Heckmondwike town centre and sat close to an 18-year-old female. “‘Shortly after the journey began the suspect moved to sit next to the 18-year-old and proceeded to sexually touch the victim. The suspect then got off the bus at Northgate, Dewsbury and the victim informed the driver and the matter was reported to police. “The suspect is described as an Asian male, between 20 and 30 years of age, around 5ft 8’ tall and with a medium build. “We also believe the same man may have been responsible for a similar incident on the same bus route on 19th August which also involved an 18-year-old female victim.” Detectives investigating the sex offences are linking the same man to two earlier offences that took place on the 23rd May and the 19h June- also on the same 268 bus route- in which the suspect carried out an indecent act on himself. DC Aspinall added: “We have a good image of the man we would like to speak to regarding these offences and I would ask anyone recognising him to get in touch. “These crimes have left a number of women understandably distressed and upset by what has taken place and we need to identify this man and bring him before the courts. “I would also ask any other people who may have travelled on the 268 bus and either witnessed a similar incident and not reported it to police or perhaps saw one of the incidents detailed in the appeal to get in touch.”

Indoor bowls has been removed from the plans for the new leisure centre, but councillors have agreed to meet bowlers to discuss future provision for their sport. Mother attacked by bogus officers in front of two sons A mother and her two children were subjected to a terrifying robbery at their family home in Huddersfield earlier this week as two men entered the family home, claiming to be police officers. The house, on Ochrewell Avenue, Deighton, was entered by the men on the evening of Friday 15th August at approximately 11.30pm after they told the woman they were investigating an incident that had occurred in the area. Once inside, the mother was punched in the face and knocked to the ground as the bogus officers stole a large quantity of Asian gold jewellery. As a result of the attack, the victim was left with two black eyes whilst the young boys, aged seven and five, were not injured in the robbery. Police are now appealing for information in regard to the crime which comes as theft of jewellery from Asian households continues to rise. Both suspects are described as being Asian, speaking with Pakistani accents. The first had a stocky build, was around 5ft 8’ in height and was wearing a light coloured hooded top with white writing across the shoulder blades. He was also wearing black gloves

A call for help A popular foodbank, which has been running for more than a decade, is appealing for more donations after another sharp rise in service users. Three years ago, the Bradford Metropolitan Foodbank delivered just over 1,400 food parcels throughout 2011. Last month, the same charity was stretched to breaking point, as they boxed up around 1,030 parcels in just July alone. The increase in numbers is now beginning to take its toll on the charity with the group’s founder, Lashman Singh, warning that if the trend was to continue, the foodbank would be in serious danger in three months. “Last month it was a five week month and we gave out more than 1,000 food parcels, which was yet another record number for us,” he said. “The problem we are facing now is that there has been a decrease in donations. Usually the pews here are piled high but the amount of food we are now receiving through donations doesn’t cover what is going out. “If we didn’t purchase the goods we have on the palettes we wouldn’t be able to do a food parcel. The rate we now have to spend the money means that in three months time, we will be in great difficulty.” The foodbank, based at St Mary's Church in East Parade, is run by volunteers who help pack the huge quantities of food and non-perishable items for families and individuals across Bradford. Working through agencies, the parcels are handed over on a weekly basis and then distributed to those most in need. With the major problem, of donation numbers falling, the foodbank now also has to contend with the possibility of losing their premises after the church they are based at was put up for sale. A bid was recently turned down for the site yet it remains on the market with the vendor described as ‘willing to consider offers for the whole or part of the property’. Despite the future of the church still unknown, Mr Singh says he remains calm about the foodbank’s longevity. “I know very little about the sale to be honest but we are all in the same boat that we don’t know how long we have left here,” he said. “I’m not worried about the situation though. Society will not see us go down the pan.

‘We want access’ Private Hire Vehicle drivers request bus lane priority

With the cost of living rising, the saying ‘every penny counts’ may be truer than ever before, and for Leeds’ private hire drivers, the time has now seemingly come to take action. A petition, set up earlier this month, is currently gathering signatures to allow the private hire vehicles (PHVs) into bus lanes alongside hackney carriages and buses. As of 5th August 2014, there were approximately 4,868 PHV licensed drivers registered to 3,739 vehicles and 84 operators. Under current rulings by Leeds City Council, these drivers are not allowed access to bus lanes, yet the 550 hackney carriage drivers in the city have been able to since 2012. In other council’s across the UK, such as Liverpool, Oxford, Sheffield and York, both types of drivers are able to utilise the lanes. Mohammad Sajaad has been a private hire driver with Yeadon-based SJK Private Hire for eight years and is one of the petition’s organisers. Like many drivers, he is affected by the rules on a daily basis and now he wants to see greater rights available for colleagues working in his sector. “This petition will not only benefit the drivers of these cars and the operators, but also just regular people in Leeds,” he said. “With no PHVs in traffic during peak times, congestion will be cut down considerably for road users. “Also, customers using our vehicles will

be saving money as by opening up bus lanes to us, we can cut prices by utilising the quickest routes available to places.” He added: “If the council were to act now, it would also have a positive impact on the environment, and their obligation to cut the carbon footprint of the city would be met.” Mr Sajaad, alongside fellow petition organisers and co-helpers, has already begun gathering signatures in an attempt to challenge the authority. With thousands of potential drivers to visit, it is likely to take at least two to three months to complete before it can be handed over to Leeds City Council and Leeds Licensing and Registration. Khalid Hussain, one of the co-helpers in the project and Pudsey B Line driver, said he was eager to address any issues which bus companies and commuters may have. “There are of course going to be some people from the bus companies who will feel this move would impact them in a negative way but that is definitely not the case,” he said. “A PHV is faster than a bus so we won’t be slowing anybody down, and the bus lanes are so underused currently that our presence in them would surely not overcrowd them.” A Leeds City Council Spokesperson said: “The Leeds bus network carries nearly 80 million passengers annually and bus priority measures provide valuable time savings and service reliability across the city. “The possibility of allowing private hire vehicles to use bus lanes has been previously investigated by the council. “It was considered however, that to take such a decision with over 4,000 private hire vehicles registered in Leeds would have a significant detrimental impact on bus reliability and make the bus lanes more intimidating for cyclists.” If you would like to learn more about the petition or get involved, please email us: info@asianexpress.co.uk

Family ‘Walk Ten’ for Kirpal Marie Curie event raises vital funds for hospice A family from Bradford laced up their walking boots last weekend as they took part in the Marie Curie Walk Ten event. On Saturday 23rd August, husband and wife, Palminder and Parvinder Malhi, were joined by six family members as they embarked on the long trek in memory of Parvinder’s father, Kirpal Singh. Kirpal sadly passed away recently at the Marie Curie Hospice in Bradford and the group dedicated their walk to him whilst raising funds for the hospice. The couple explained how Kirpal had enjoyed using the facilities on offer at the

Bradford site and used to go to the day centre to do painting. “We feel they helped prolong his life by discovering his hidden talent and giving him a passion to paint,” Palminder and Parvinder explained. “He enjoyed the time there at the day centre and was treated with respect and made to feel very welcome. “Unfortunately his health deteriorated very quickly and because of the Marie Curie Hospice and their wonderful team we got to spend a lot of time with him to say our goodbyes properly. “They do a really wonderful job and we appreciate

everything they did for ‘Mr Singh’ as he was known by all at the Bradford Marie Curie Hospice.” The husband and wife team were joined on the walk by several family members who also had their own special message prior to completing the challenge. Anupreet Malhi, Kirpal’s granddaughter, aged 13, said: “I am doing the Walk Ten to give back to the Marie Curie Hospice that looked after my granddad,” whilst Kirpal’s grandson, Gavan Malhi, aged nine, added: “I am taking part in Walk Ten to raise money for the Marie Curie Hospice and to say thank you to them for helping my granddad.” As well as the walk, at Harewood House, activities, live music and picnics were held on what was certainly a memorable day for all participants. All funds raised went towards helping the Marie Curie team continue to provide care to terminally ill people and support to their families at the Bradford hospice. AT RISK: Missing five-year-old Ashya King requires serious medical treatment

Hampshire Constabulary has launched a major investigation to locate a five-year-old boy removed from Southampton General Hospital without consent. Ashya King has a brain tumor and without treatment there are serious concerns for his welfare. Ashya was removed from the hospital by his parents, 51-year-old Brett King and 45-year-old Naghemeh King, at approximately 2pm on Thursday, 28th August. The Constabulary has confirmation that Ashya, his parents and six siblings boarded a continental ferry service from Portsmouth to Cherbourg at 4pm on Thursday, 28th August. The ship arrived in France at 8pm French time. The family are travelling in a grey coloured Hyundai I800 Style CRDI, registration KP60 HWK. Ashya is likely to be in a wheelchair or buggy, he cannot communicate verbally and is immobile. Information suggests that the family are still in France.

Detective Superintendent Dick Pearson of Hampshire Major Investigation team said: “If we do not locate Ashya there are serious concerns for his life. “He is receiving constant medical care within the UK due to recent surgery and ongoing medical issues. “Without this specialist 24-hour care Ashya is at risk of additional health

complications which place him at substantial risk. He needs to be taken to a medical facility for his urgent health requirements as soon as he is located. “We have also launched a social media appeal and would urge everyone to share this appeal, particularly if you have friends and relatives in France and bordering countries.” Anyone with information, which may help locate Ashya King, should contact Hampshire Constabulary as soon as possible on 101 quoting Operation Aquilion.

Shanks for nothing I

n a previous article we looked at the employee invention compensation case of Unilever plc –v- Shanks, where the Court held that an employee was entitled to a fair share of his employer’s royalties derived from an invention over which the employer had secured a patent. However, a decision not to award any employee inventor compensation in that case has now been upheld. Whilst the patent for an invention will normally be granted to the inventor, where the inventor is employed in a capacity in which they are likely to invent something (for example, as a member of a research and development team) then the patent can be granted to their employer. The law has long recognised that occasionally inventions can be so exceptional that it would be unfair to restrict the inventor simply to payment of their salary and that they should rightfully be entitled to a share of the profits. Section 40 of the Patents Act 1977 provides for an award of compensation to the employee in circumstances where the patent is of outstanding benefit to the employer. The employee is entitled to a fair share of the benefit the employer has derived. Professor Ian Shanks was employed by Unilever UK and invented a measuring device for use in diabetic testing kits in 1984 which was patented and later licensed to third parties for royalties of in excess of £20 million. The Shanks case follows that of Kelly and Chiu –v- GE Healthcare Ltd in 2009 which was the first successful employee inventor compensation case in the UK. Drs Kelly and Chiu were employed as research scientists and invented a heart radioactive imaging agent. The product

generated revenues of in excess of £1.3billion for their employer. The Court held that the invention was outstanding (meaning something special or out of the ordinary and more than substantial, significant or good) and the benefit was something more than would normally be expected to arise from the duties for which the employee is paid. Following the Court of Appeal’s decision in the Shanks case, that an employee could be entitled to a fair share of his employer’s royalties derived from an invention, the case was remitted to the Intellectual Property Office, who found that no payment was due because the invention was not of outstanding benefit to Unilever. The High Court have now upheld that decision on appeal. The Shanks case was distinguished from the Kelly case where the employer would have been in crisis but for the relevant patents. Here, Unilever’s business was sufficiently large that the benefit was not “crucial to [its] success” and so was not sufficiently important. Accordingly, the Hearing Officer had made no error of principle in determining that the benefit was not outstanding. The High Court held that in order to determine the benefit received from the patents, the gross sums received should be discounted to reflect the fact that Unilever paid corporation tax on those receipts and so any benefit should be net of tax. If the benefit had been found to be outstanding, the Court was of the view that the ‘fair share of the benefit’ should be no more than three per cent, as awarded in the Kelly case.

Stripped of British Citizenship Britain’s most senior police officer has backed growing calls to see British extremists, who travel abroad to fight, stripped of their passports. Metropolitan Police Crime Sir Bernard Commissioner, Hogan-Howe, said it should be seen as a ‘privilege’ to live in this country and by going to war zones as aspiring terrorists, that privilege should be removed. Currently, it is estimated that between 500 and 600 Britons are fighting in Syria, with roughly three quarters of them from the capital. Sir Bernard said earlier this month that Scotland yard is prepared should a large number of them return at the same time, and even called for the return of control orders. Such a move would see terror suspects forced to move to a different part of the country where they could then be place under a lengthy curfew as they are investigated. Kirklees Councillors are being asked to consider a 5p rise in the cost of school meals from January 2015. There is usually an increase in price each September, but as there has been no increase in 2014 parents/carer will benefit from a few months where increased costs to the council are not being passed on. Kirklees school meals provide an excellent quality service. An increase of 5p per meal in January 2015 in advance of the usual annual increase in September 2015 would help ensure that this high quality is maintained. Cleaning up the cemeteries

Council workers are devoting a day to sprucing up Brighouse Cemetery, and are inviting local residents to help out. On Saturday 30th August, between 10am and 2pm, Council staff will be having a clean-up day in the cemetery, to ensure that the grounds are looking their best. To help out with this, volunteers would be most welcome. The cemetery is well looked after, but shrubs and weeds around the grounds seem to have had a growth spurt during the summer months, so some of the help required will involve weeding and pruning plants around memorials. Other jobs include litter picking, general tidying and the brushing of memorials. Rubbish bags will be provided, along with some equipment, and the Council will help with the removal of anything collected at the end of the day.

West Africa Ebola outbreak could infect 20,000 people, WHO says The Ebola epidemic in West Africa could infect over 20,000 people and spread to more countries, the U.N. health agency has said, warning that an international effort costing almost half a billion dollars is needed to overcome the outbreak. The World Health Organisation (WHO) announced a $490 million strategic plan to contain the epidemic over the next nine months, saying it was based on a projection that the virus could spread to 10 further countries beyond the four now affected - Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria. With the International Monetary Fund (IMF) warning of economic damage from the outbreak, Nigeria reported that a doctor indirectly linked to the Liberian-American who brought the disease to the country had died of Ebola in Port Harcourt, Africa's largest energy hub. In Britain, drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline said an experimental Ebola vaccine is being fast-tracked into human studies and it plans to produce up to 10,000 doses for emergency deployment if the results are good.

So far 3,069 cases have been reported in the outbreak but the WHO said the actual number could already be two to four times higher. “This is not a West African issue or

an African issue. This is a global health security issue,” WHO's Assistant Director-General Dr Bruce Aylward told reporters in Geneva. With a fatality rate of 52 percent,

the death toll stood at 1,552 as of 26th August. That is nearly as high as the total from all recorded outbreaks since Ebola was discovered in what is now Democratic Republic of

Congo in 1976. The figures do not include 13 deaths from a separate Ebola outbreak announced at the weekend in Congo, which has been identified as a different strain of the virus. Aylward said tackling the epidemic would need thousands of local staff and 750 international experts. “It is a big operation. We are talking [about] well over 12,000 people operating over multiple geographies and highrisk circumstances. It is an expensive operation,” he said. The operation marks a major raising of the response by the WHO, which had been accused by some aid agencies of reacting too slowly to the outbreak. Medical charity Medecins sans Frontieres (MSF) welcomed the WHO plan but said the important thing was now to act upon it. “Huge questions remain about who will implement the elements in the plan,” said MSF operations director Brice de le Vingne. “None of the organizations in the mostaffected countries ... currently have the right set-up to respond on the scale necessary to make a serious impact.”

Pakistan Army to mediate Though not clear who called for the intervention, but Pakistan's powerful army chief has stepped in to the political deadlock between the PM and two opposition figures leading huge anti-government rallies in the capital, Islamabad. Cleric Tahir ul-Qadri told thousands of his followers that General Raheel Sharif

had asked to be given a day in which to mediate. His ally, cricketer-turnedpolitician Imran Khan, echoed his comments. The two opposition figures want PM Nawaz Sharif to resign. The move appears to mark a return to politics of the military, barely a year after Pakistan's first democratic transfer of power.

Senior Pakistani politicians have denounced the move, with one constitutional expert called it "a moment of collective disgrace for all politicians across the political spectrum". Pakistani military has a history of meddling in the country's politics. Many suspect the current crisis was encouraged by elements in the army to weaken the civilian government of Mr Sharif. Publicly, both the army and the government deny this.

Pakistan has been gripped by mass rallies for two weeks, with thousands of protesters led by Khan, a cricketer-turned-politician, and cleric Tahir ul-Qadri camped outside parliament demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Both leaders had warned that Thursday would be a decisive day in their efforts to bring down the government, but Qadri's camp unexpectedly issued a statement saying the government had met none of their demands and therefore protesters could leave. The statement from Qadri's political party said he would make a speech to his supporters later in the day to deliver the message. It was not clear from the statement whether this means his camp had given up on its demands. “Dr Qadri is expected to say to the crowd that they are free to go back,” the party said in the statement. “Pakistanis have been

burning in the flames of hunger, poverty and injustice but nobody cares for them.” The departure of Qadri's highly organised supporters from the protest area in the heart of Islamabad would seriously undermine Khan's efforts to breathe new life into his movement which many already expect to fizzle out soon. The atmosphere in the capital remained tense as security forces sent reinforcements to surround the protest area, reflecting expectations of possible violence or clashes after two weeks of broken ultimatums and unpredictable twists. As talks on how to resolve the impasse repeatedly failed, the crowd in the so-called Red Zone - home to the prime minister's home, parliament and embassies - has been shrinking, leaving the area littered with rubbish and reeking of human waste. Yet, in a show of defiance, some protesters have dug graves at the site to show they are prepared to die for their cause. Khan, appeared defiant, saying he would not abandon his demands. “I will not leave here. I will not accept this monarchy. I want real democracy,” Khan told his supporters.

India’s PM promises to end ‘financial untouchability’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that he promises to end ‘financial untouchability’ with a scheme to ensure the majority of households of nearly 1.3 billion people in India have a bank account within months. If successful, the scheme could help mend strained state finances by better targeting billions of dollars in welfare spending as well as relieving poverty in a country where about 40 percent of the population has no access to banking. “Mahatma Gandhi tried to end untouchability in the society,” Modi said, referring to modern India's founding father and his drive to stamp out bias based on the traditional caste system. “If we want to eradicate poverty, we need to get rid of financial untouchability,” he said. “If forty percent of Indians

are not a part of the economy, how can we be successful in eradicating poverty?” Modi asked. The government said nearly 15 million people opened accounts at centres around the country on the first day of the programme. The goal is to open 75 million accounts by January next year. The campaign to bring the masses closer to the financial system could improve measurements of economic growth and bolster Modi's popularity among the poor. Under the scheme, the government will give account holders a debit card and

accident insurance cover of up to 100,000 rupees ($1,654). Good customers would also be eligible for an overdraft facility of up to 5,000 Indian rupees after six months. Earlier this month, Raghuram Rajan, governor of the Reserve Bank of India, said bank profitability was crucial for the success of the scheme, which could help break a link between poor public services and corruption. Some critics fear the overdraft facility could end up swelling bad loans at banks as it does not spell out how the banks can collect debts. However, Modi argues the push for greater financial inclusion would also diminish the influence of moneylenders and other informal financing channels that operate outside the ambit of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), blunting its monetary policy tools. The drive for universal banking access is not new but the failure to provide services tailored for the poor and lowincome groups has kept India way off its goal. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, cemented his position as the country’s most powerful leader in recent times as he read out the oath of office in a ceremony in parliament. Amidst his promises, Erdogan vowed to protect Turkey’s independence and integrity to abide by the constitution and principles of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk - the founder of the modern secular republic. The 60-year-old had been prime minister since 2003 and has always expressed his determination to transform the country into a regional power. Shortly before Erdogan’s oath, members of the main opposition party, CHP, walked out of parliament; whilst party leader, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, refused to attend arguing Erdogan breached the constitution by remaining premier for the weeks after his presidential victory.

“We're now more worried than ever about one-man, autocratic rule in Turkey,” CHP deputy Aykan Erdemir told Reuters. Meanwhile, after laying a wreath at Ataturk's mausoleum in the heart of Ankara, Erdogan's limousine was escorted by military cavalcade to the presidential palace where he was greeted by outgoing president Abdullah Gul, a co-founder of Erdogan's AK Party. Later on Thursday, Erdogan formally asked outgoing foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu to form a new government and be his prime minister. “In my capacity as president of the Republic, I swear upon my honour and repute before the great Turkish nation and before history to safeguard the existence and independence of the state,” Erdogan said at the brief ceremony in parliament. Erdogan won the presidential election earlier this year after gaining almost 52 per cent of the total votes in the first round.

One of Bollywood’s much-loved and critically acclaimed Om Puri, is back to spice up our viewing pleasure once again in another cross-cultural film; but this time, rather than the grey streets of England, his new film is shot beautifully in the midst of delicate French rural life, cobblestoned streets and cheery farmers' markets. After losing his wife and being uprooted from riots in Mumbai, Papa and his five children, including gifted Hassan (Dayal), relocate and start a desi eatery in a pretty little French village - opposite haughty Madame Mallory's (Academy Award winning actress Helen Mirren) Michelinstarred restaurant. Producers Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey were suggested the name of Om Puri to play the role of ‘Papa’ by the scriptwriter of the film titled ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’. “I was very surprised as the offer for the film came out of the blue. I was immediately interested. “On the surface it seems like a war between two restaurants, but really it’s about relationships, understanding other people’s culture, and learning how to live together peacefully,” says Om Puri speaking to the Asian Express. “I was very excited to be doing a mainstream film once again, and when I realised Helen Mirren was to

be part of it, I began to watch her films to see her work,” he added. “I was particularly impressed with her performance in ‘The Queen’ – she did a fabulous job portraying Queen Elizabeth II.” With Om already on the sets one week before Helen, when he heard that she had arrived for shooting, Om hurried over to her trailer just as she stepped out. “As soon as I approached her, I dropped to my knees, took her hand and kissed it… ‘what an honour to meet you your majesty’, I said. “She was totally surprised and we all began laughing - I think I made a lasting impression and broke the ice nicely.” His relationship with Helen and her husband whilst on sets was a pleasurable one. Helen loves Indian cuisine and Om loves to cook. “I always stay at an apartment or hotel where I can cook,” adds Om. “I love to cook – I’m a big fish and lentils fan, so when we were not filming, I would take food for Helen and we would eat, chat and talk about all sorts of things for hours. She even took a few recipes from me!” Talking about his career, Om says that he feels exceptionally blessed to how it’s all panned out. “I was only 20-years-old when I attended a

drama school in Delhi for three years, and after that I spent two years at film school, before my first film in 1976,” he says. Having starred in over 100 films,

London-based rapper and producer TaZzZ Ullah has just released the beautifully orchestrated unplugged version to his highly acclaimed single ‘Teardrops’, featuring Rita Morar and Raxstar. ‘Teardrops’ (Unplugged) is timeless music in its purest form which is soothing to the soul, a musical symphony amid live strings and chords that pierces through the core of one’s heart. PERFORMANCE Renaultsport R.S. 01 restates passion for motor sports

A brand new 500hp race car with carbon monocoque respecting LMP1 2014 standards will compete in the World Series by Renault from next year. Designed under the management of Laurens van den Acker, Renault is restating its passion for motor sports with the Renaultsport R.S. 01, a racing car of spectacular styling and exceptional performance. With a design inspired by the world of concept cars and governed by an absolute pursuit of aerodynamic downforce, Renaultsport R.S. 01 is a radical expression of the brand’s sporting DNA. With a carbon monocoque for a weight of less than 1,100 kg and an engine developing over 500 hp, it is able to reach a top speed of over 300 kph. From 2015, Renaultsport R.S. 01 will be one of the stars of World Series by Renault in a new championship, the Renaultsport Trophy, a springboard for the professional GT and Endurance championships. New technology to power the family car of 2020

The family cars of the next decade will be some of the most economical mainstream cars ever built, thanks to a raft of cutting-edge technologies which are already being worked on. Top five new technologies will propel the average family car to achieve CO2 output figures of well under 90g/km and fuel efficiency levels of more than 300mpg. NEW LIFE CYCLE: Third-generation Audi TT saves on greenhouse gases

next year. The European Union has set stringent regulations that require all car makers to meet a rigorous set of average CO2 emissions standards across their entire fleet of vehicles. These come into force in 2020. Flywheels, electric turbochargers and intelligent aerodynamics will shape the way the mid-market saloons and hatchbacks will be built with the specific aim of meeting those standards.

A British-designed flywheel system, which is used to drive the rear wheels of a front-wheel-drive car, is currently in testing. Flywheels can store waste energy and then release it, much like an electric motor and battery. Flywheel systems are also about a quarter of the cost of a hybrid set-up, far less complex and much lighter.

Variable Compression Ratio Engines

Earlier this year, it was announced that manufacturers were developing engines with variable compression ratios. Being able to vary an engine’s compression ratio depending on the demands being placed on it will lead to significant advances in efficiency.

Coasting

Coasting technology is something that is certain to be used on future models and will most likely be rolled out in three stages. The first stage, coasting at speed - is already a feature on cars fitted with dual-clutch automatic gearboxes. The next version will function when a car is travelling below 4mph. The ultimate version will allow transmission decoupling and engine shut-down when cruising at speed, travelling downhill or approaching traffic lights that are about to turn red.

Electric Turbochargers

Manufacturers have already begun to preview their own versions of electric turbocharging by using a powerful fan in the engine’s induction system. This fan blows air through the turbo when the engine is decelerating in order to spin the turbo fan up to speed so that full boost is available as soon as the driver gets back on the accelerator.

Enclosed Wheel Wells

It is believed that wheel wells might yield big reductions in drag. The step would involve enclosing the wheel housing so airflow doesn’t get trapped as it travels under the car. This would mean fitting an undertray that extends beneath the front wishbones. This flexible ‘skirt’, which could be attached to the wheel arch liners and the lower wishbones, creates a seal that moves with the suspension.

Audi has made significant gains in reducing the whole-life impact on the environment of its latest high-tech sports car. Compared with its predecessor, the new Audi TT scores high with an increase in power output of up to 14 per cent and a simultaneous decrease in greenhouse gas emissions of 11 per cent. As the premium vehicle manufacturer states in its new life cycle assessment of the third-generation TT, this means that each car in the series saves around 5.5 tonnes of greenhouse gases over its entire life cycle. This includes not just carbon dioxide, but other substances such as methane, nitrous oxide and halogenated organic emissions. A host of technologies have contributed towards the positive life cycle assessment of the Audi TT, including lightweight construction. An intelligent combination of materials have been used by Audi engineers, who have now, for the second time in a row, succeeded in reducing the car’s unladen weight.

The first model change in 2006 saw weight savings of up to 90 kilograms achieved. With the front-wheel driven 2.0 TFSI engine variant of the new TT now weighing in at just 1,230 kilograms, this means that the car is once again around 50 kilograms lighter than its predecessor. Weight reduction and intelligent lightweight construction measures also have an impact on the vehicle manufacturing process. Here they’ve reduced greenhouse gas emissions by around nine per cent, or 800 kilograms.

MPG marathon for electric vehicles Electric vehicles will feature strongly in this year’s MPG Marathon for the first time – but the drivers will have to plan their recharging points carefully if they want to finish first in their class. Pure electric vehicles are taking part alongside range extenders and plug-in hybrids for the first time in the famous eco-driving extravaganza Electricity will be measured at 13p per kilowatt hour, while any carbon fuel that the petrol or diesel hybrid vehicles consume will also be taken into account. This year’s MPG Marathon is set out to demonstrate that a combination of fuel-efficient cars, advanced fuels, route planning technology and eco-driving skills can be employed to successfully manage the rising cost of fuel. The three new vehicle classes are joining the more familiar diesel and petrol-engined cars and vans that traditionally take part in the event, which this year is being held in the picturesque Cotswolds and the rugged Brecon Beacons on 8th and 9th October. Several electric vehicle entries

have already been received. They will have to make the best possible use of the recharging network housed at service stations on the 360-mile route, and will be judged on how much power they consume over the course. In previous years, the UK’s most prestigious lean-driving challenge has attracted celebrities, motoring journalists, academics and senior figures from the automotive industry, all striving to see if they can complete the chosen route using as little fuel as possible. The bar is set very high as last year’s event was won by Nick Chapman and Rosemary Homer from Leicestershire County Council who achieved an amazing average of 88.69 mpg over the total route of 339.3 miles. Driving a Ford Fiesta ECOnetic 1.6 diesel-engined Titanium model, they out-performed the field of 23 other vehicles with a dazzling array of lean-driving skills. The pair have already confirmed that they will be attempting to defend their crown again this year.

The high-performance variant of the upcoming Jaguar is set to rival the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. Word on the grapevine is that the 5.0-litre V8 beast is to be dubbed the Jaguar XE SVR, and will reportedly arrive by early 2016, about one year after the regular model goes on sale. Under the hood, it will unsurprisingly use Jaguar’s existing 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine, which will turn the powertrain to deliver a total of 489 hp.

The Jaguar XE SVR is set to sprint to 100 km/h in an impressive four seconds as well as an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Jaguar however, recently confirmed that the XE will be capable of hitting over 300 km/h (186 mph) so this will probably come by unlocking the limiter at the customer’s request. An eight-speed automatic transmission is mated with the potent engine and the vehicle will adopt larger performance brakes as well as revised and stiffer suspension and an

electronically controlled limited slip differential. The bodykit will come adapted to couple with the aggressive with highperformance variants of the Jaguar XE. This bodykit will likely include new bumpers, side skirts, a redesigned front grille, quad tailpipes and a rear diffuser. Testing for the XE SVR has been prognosticated at the Nurburgring so we should see prototypes hitting the track early next year.

English footballer Michael Chopra has confirmed his signing to Kerala Blasters FC, owned by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, in the first season of the Hero Indian Super League starting October. The ex Newcastle United striker - who has also enjoyed spells at Cardiff City, Blackpool and Sunderland - has been announced as the latest star to play in the inaugural Indian Super League after he was released by Blackpool. Chopra will join the likes of former Arsenal players Freddie Ljunberg and Robert Pires, ex-Liverpool forward Luis Garcia and ex-Juventus star David Trezeguet in signing to the franchise. The team’s Head Coach, former England Goalkeeper, David James said: “To pick Michael first is a tremendous achievement for us. We're glad to have a player with his experience in English football.

On Sunday 17th August 2014 it was a special night for British boxing with the man known as ‘Special K’ Kell Brook becoming the new International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight champion of the world after 12 hard fought rounds against the talented and relentless American champion Shawn Porter. There has always been friendly but exciting rivalry between British and American boxers and in the past I remember the Frank Bruno v Mike Tyson fights where thousands of loyal British fans went across to America to support Frank Bruno chanting ‘Bruno Spank the Yank’. The win for Brook is not only special in terms of a Sheffield British boxer going across to America and beating an American boxer in front of a majority American crowd at one of the biggest boxing venues in the world, but also because many boxing fans and writers had written off Brook’s chance of winning this fight. Brook was the major underdog in this fight and he had a point to prove in terms of his boxing ability. Brook, now the holder of a major World Championship belt, opens up the possibility of lucrative, exciting and elite fights in the future and one such fight that is currently being debated by all boxing fans is a showdown with Brook’s British rival, Bolton boxing star Amir ‘King’ Khan. Khan has made it clear that he now feels Brook has proved that he is an elite fighter by beating Shawn Porter and this has now opened the possibility of a fight. The fight is likely to take place next summer at Wembley Stadium London in front of 80,000 chanting fans. There certainly seems like Brook and Khan genuinely have a hate for each other and this is one boxing rivalry that has been gaining interest throughout the world for some time with both boxers having verbal sparring fights on the social media websites and Khan stating he has previously had the advantage over Brook in a sparring session. It is reported that Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn previously offered Khan an estimated eight million pounds to fight Brook and it now seems that the fight will generate even more revenue for both boxers. Brook, after the Porter win, made it clear that he now wants people to take note of him and his boxing talent and has declared his arrival in the elite world of boxing and said “All the top fighters are probably watching this fight, and I welcome those fights,” he told Showtime’s Jim Gray in the post-fight ring. “It’s been a long time coming and I’ve been sacrificing for this moment, and now it’s worth it 10 times over. I’m the top dog in England now.” We wish Brook the best of luck in the future and look forward to his upcoming fights and especially against Amir Khan.

He said: “I competed in the NPA championships again this year but this time in a class and

not as a novice. “I actually weighed in at just over one pound for the lightweights, so ended up competing against the big boys in the middleweights. “Despite giving away nearly a stone of muscle, I managed a fourth placed finish which felt amazing. “I need to thank my training partner, Kes Hussain, John, Gregg and Tina Parker, from Top Bodies Gym, as well as my brother, Mukhtar Ahmed. Without them this wouldn’t have been possible.” The father of four also reserved special praise for his wife for her ‘incredible support’

over the past 12 months despite having to overcome her own obstacles this year. “It's been a hard year for me as my wife underwent serious surgery to her neck which had a massive impact on us,” he said. “But she still pushed me to achieve my dreams and I have to thank her for being the backbone behind my success.” By sticking to his strict diet plan and gym regime, it has allowed Shanwaz to continue paving his way forward in the bodybuilding world and has even resulted in him teaching aspiring competitors. Working with young people, he has been trying to ‘get

children off the street and into the gym’ as a way of promoting healthier, more active lifestyles. “It is very important to me that we get more young Asian people involved in the competitions,” he said. “At the moment I do help a lot of young lads with advice on training, nutrition and how to lead a clean lifestyle. “One of them is even going to his first show soon which I am really looking forward to.” Earlier this year, Shanwaz was awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Bodybuilding award by the Oracle Team for his inspirational transformation.

Dozens of cricketers were joined by more than one hundred intrigued onlookers this past bank holiday weekend as a special cricket tournament was held for charity in Leeds. ‘Cricket4Gaza’ was organised by local cricket enthusiast, Moahmmad Qasim, 28, in an attempt to bring different communities together by helping out a humanitarian cause. Alongside co-organisers, Ummer Farooq and Mohammed Ilyas, the tournament concept was devised as a way of fulfilling this ambition and raising money for Palestinian’s caught up in the Gaza-Israel conflict. On the day, four teams battled it out, through rain and shine, to see who would be crowned tournament champions. Oakwood Pharmacy, Headingley Cricket Club, Ramallah United and Harehills Cricket Club were the four sides taking part, with two semi-finals determining who would meet in the final clash. Before any cricket took place, Islamic scholar, Mohammed Ali Rizvi and Mr Furqan read verses from the holy Qu’ran, respected impeccably by all players, and then the action was underway. In two close fought affairs, Oakwood overcame Ramallah, whilst it took the final ball of a super-over to determine a victor in the Headingley-Harehills clash, with the prior edging the game. Alongside the action, a total of £3,800 was raised through donations for the Muslim Hands charity which provides aid to victims of poverty and disaster. Mr Qasim said this total was more than he could have hoped for and thanked all those involved for their support. “I’d seen football tournaments and other events taking part helping to raise money for this cause but there was nothing like this,” he said. “As an avid cricketer I really wanted to give fellow players the chance to play the sport for charity and the whole day was a big success. “In total we raised more than £3,000 and that was an amazing effort from everyone involved.” He added: “One little girl called Aishah Sadiqah Khan deserves special praise for raising £400 a week prior to the event to help, as she said, ‘all the poorly children in Palestine’.” The cheque was handed over to Muslim hands representative, Taqeer Ahmad, after the tournament.

Mexican Sergio Perez says he expects to stay at the Force India Formula One team next season with an extension likely to be agreed in a matter of weeks. “Nothing is confirmed yet but we should be, in the next couple of weeks, sorted for next year,” the former Sauber and McLaren driver told reporters at the Belgian Grand Prix on Thursday. “On my side it's a bit early to confirm anything but I expect things are going to move on very quickly,” he added. Mexico is returning to the grand prix calendar next season after a 23-year absence and Perez is the country's leading driver, with a third place finish in Bahrain this year.

Perez, who also brings sponsorship to Force India, is currently 11th but 40 points behind his German team mate Nico Hulkenberg. Team principal Vijay Mallya said last month that he was happy with his drivers, had options on both and saw no need to replace either for 2015. However Perez was clearly reluctant to take anything for granted after last year's experience with McLaren where he seemed set to stay only to be abruptly dropped to clear a space for Danish rookie Kevin Magnussen. “As you've seen in the past, anything can happen,” he said. “So I don't want to confirm anything before we sign. A muscle man from Huddersfield says he would like to see a greater number of young Asians take up his passion for bodybuilding after coming fourth in a competition earlier this month. 33-year-old Shanwaz ‘Dody’ Ahmed, only began training seriously in the discipline two years ago when he was still weighing in at 18 stone. Yet, after deciding to shed the weight and target a place at the Yorkshire Natural Physique Association (NPA) in 2013, the family man began hitting the gym.
