SCHOOLS PEACE

On January 28th, 2023, JCI Manila launched its Schools for Peace project at the Teodoro R. Yangco Elementary School in Tondo, Manila as one of its many beneficiaries in the program. The project aims to provide a better learning environment for the students and promote peace education in the community. The event was a success, thanks to the support of One Manila Organization and Manila City Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto, who partnered with JCI Manila to build a brighter future for the youth.

The Teodoro R. Yangco Elementary School is a public school located in one of Manila's most impoverished areas with 3,500 students, 120 teachers, and 29 classrooms. The school has been facing various challenges, including a lack of proper facilities and resources, making it challenging for students to focus and learn e ectively. This situation is not unique to this school, as many public schools in the Philippines face similar challenges due to budget constraints and inadequate government support.

JCI Manila recognized the need for action and launched its Schools for Peace project to address the issue. With the supervision of Youth Development Director Shih Hao-Hsu and Chairman Ryon Tionloc, the project aims to create a conducive learning environment by providing essential facilities, such as a fully equipped library, a roof over the quadrangle, and rehabilitating the school's public grounds' flooring. These facilities are critical in promoting student engagement and improving their academic performance.

The Schools for Peace project is also focused on promoting peace education in the community. JCI Manila believes that education is the key to creating a peaceful and prosperous society, and it starts with the youth. Through this project, JCI Manila aims to promote the values of peace, respect, and understanding among the students and the community.

The launch event was attended by JCI Manila members, One Manila Organization representatives, and sister chapters from JCI Hong Kong Jayceettes, JCI Manileña, and JCI Iloilo Ilang Ilang. The event started with a brief program, where the guests shared their thoughts on the project and the importance of peace education. The program was followed by a tour of the school's facilities, where the guests saw firsthand the challenges faced by the students and the urgent need for intervention.

After the tour, JCI Manila led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the school's new facilities. The ceremony symbolizes the start of a new chapter for the Teodoro R. Yangco Elementary School and a brighter future for the students.

The launch event of Schools for Peace at Teodoro R. Yangco Elementary School is just the beginning of JCI Manila's commitment to promoting education and peace in the Philippines. The project will continue to provide support to the school and expand its reach to other public schools in the country.

The success of the project would not be possible without the support of One Manila Organization and Manila City Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto. The partnership demonstrates the power of collaboration in achieving a common goal and making a positive impact in the community.
