It’s been a hard few weeks in the Asian Style office, as we have been moving and I tell you it’s been exhausting but am sure once complete it will be worth it. So what’s been happening whilst my team and I have been breaking our nails and doing longer shifts than normal to get our brand new gaff looking like the luxury and style we’re used to? Well as we are in the mood for scrubbing up and new looks, this edition we’ve decided to help you give that luxurious makeover you’ve always wanted for your bedroom…without having to have a luxurious budget. Do read our top tips on getting the luxurious bedroom you have always wanted without breaking the bank Before I forget I have to tell you about the B-towners we’ve been bumping into whilst going back and forth from old office to new. Yes it’s true your favourite Bollywood stars from Ranbir Kapoor, Karan Johar, Shahrukh Khan to Sophie Choudhary and Manish Malhotra have been keeping the shutterbugs busy (both fans and media) as they are spotted across the city of London for a bit of work and leisure for some. Our very own reporters managed to catch up with Manish Malhotra during the sneak peak of his latest festive collection at Ashni & Co. Do read all about it online. Seen as we’re talking about Bollywood folk, how can we forget to talk about our cover girl wife of junior Bachchan – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The prestigious GQ Awards were held at Grand Hyatt in Mumbai on Saturday, the 26th September. The starry event was filled with familiar faces and trendsetting looks. Many Bollywood celebrities graced the occasion while many were honoured with awards by the leading fashion magazine, ‘GQ India’. We take a look at who looked hot on the red carpet at this year’s event.
Aditi Rao Hyadri looked mesmerising in a white gown. Actress Deepika Padukone also donned a similar white dress. Both ladies had opted for Gaurav Gupta creations, which had similar layered, ruffle details. Even their styling was matchy-matchy with minimal accessories and middle
parted hair. Thankfully the two opted for drastically different beauty looks with Aditi choosing a more minimal look whilst Deepika accentuated her outfit with smoky eyes. Others who scored high on the fashion scale were actresses Amy Jackson, Lara Dutta and Lisa Ray.

Amy Jackson wore a black gown with velveteen that had a high low hemline. The sheer bust had just the right touches of white to breakdown the all-black look. Her hoop earrings and clutch added that extra bit of bling.
Lisa Ray also wore a black number. She opted for an all-black dress completed with a black box clutch and black pumps. She accessorised with a pair of drop down gold and emerald earrings.
Lara Dutta was one of the rare few stars that managed to bring some colour to the red carpet. She wore a pants and tunic combo that was finished with leather details.
Between the blacks and the whites, Evelyn Sharma shimmered in silver. However, the ensemble didn’t seem to do anything for the beautiful Miss Sharma. Hopefully, her stylists will choose something a bit more wow next time.

Sleep eaSy, Sleep healthy! Do you find it hard to get a god night’s sleep? Does your partners snoring keep you awake at night? Whatever the reason here are some healthy sleeping suggestions for a better night’s sleep Sleep only as much as you need to feel rested during the day. Oversleeping leaves you feeling un-refreshed and ‘sluggish’ the next day. You will also have difficulty falling asleep the next night as oversleeping re-sets your natural biological clock. Keep a regular sleep schedule by going to bed and getting up at the same time during weekdays and weekends. This will help develop a regular sleep-wake rhythm. Avoid napping during the day. You cannot make yourself fall asleep, so don’t try and force it as this will cause
anxiety that will keep you awake. Set your alarm clock for the time you want to get up. If you can’t sleep don’t be tempted to look at the clock as this will cause an emotional reaction. You will worry that it is either earlier or later than you thought. Increase light exposure during the day but make sure the bedroom is as dark as it can be at night. Blackout blinds can help. Try to minimise unwanted noise such as traffic, aeroplanes and a snoring partner. Buy some ear plugs. They won’t block all environmental noise but they should dull it enough for you to sleep. If you have a snoring partner seek some professional help. Keep your bedroom at a temperature that is comfortable for you. The ideal temperature is between 16 and 18 degrees. If you are too
hot, wear loose cotton clothing. If you are too cold wear bed socks. Don’t over eat before bed as indigestion can be painful and keep you awake. Avoid alcohol and drinks that contain caffeine for at least 4 hours before bed. Although alcohol will make you drop off quite quickly, it will disturb your sleep after a couple of hours causing you to wake frequently during the night and un-refreshed in the morning. Caffeine is a stimulant and will prevent you from going to sleep. Similarly, tobacco is a stimulant and also addictive. Smokers tend to wake several times during the night with cigarette ‘cravings’. Exercise regularly during the day, and at least 6 hours before bed. Exercise increases metabolism and core body temperature. This is undesirable
before sleep because the normal fall of core body temperature during the evening promotes sleep. It has been shown that insomniacs do not decrease their metabolism or core body temperature as much as normal sleepers do. Anxiety and depression can prevent you from sleeping well. Try to make a conscious effort to think and talk about your worries and concerns during the day. Avoid sleeping pills and medications as they will not be effective in the long-term. Many drugs carry serious risks of dependency, tolerance and rebound insomnia. Try relaxation and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) that incorporates a multimodal approach combining a number of behavioural interventions with cognitive therapy.

Tantalising recipes from the This edition we’re going on a journey to the South of India. Whilst we in Britain have a geographical area of 130,395 km2 with a population of just of 64.5million. South India boasts of over 1.252billion people over 635,780 km2 Five states, two union territories, rocky plateau, river valleys’ and coastal plains, the south of India is extremely different from its Northern counterpart. Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh each have their own culture, languages and by way of that many different cuisines. Kerala a state in the south-west region of India on the Malabar coast was a prominent spice exporter
FISH MAPPAS

is a Kerala style curry where fish is cooked in creamy coconut milk and served with appams. Ingredients 3 tsp coconut oil 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
from 3000 BCE. With significant production of coconut, tea, coffee, cashew and spices the place must be oozing with great food ideas. Rightly so the food of Kerala is predominantly non-vegetarian. You’ve got chicken, mutton, pork, beef and a thrilling range of seafood - mussels, crab, tiger prawns, king prawns, tiny prawns, oysters, sardines, mackerel, tuna and gorgeous red lobsters. Some of the popularly used ingredients in Kerala’s cuisine are pepper, cumin, chillies, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, turmeric and of course coconut! Tamarind, unripe mango, lime juice, vinegar and curd are also used extensively. Here are some of the most loved and popular dishes of Kerala.
For the tempering: 2 tsp coconut oil 1/4 tsp ginger juliennes 1/4 tsp chopped garlic 5-6 curry leaves 2 Tbsp chopped shallots Method Heat oil in pan.
Add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, curry leaves, slit green chillies and sliced onions. Saute till onions turn brown. Now add coriander powder, mustard powder, chopped tomato, kokum fruits, big cubes of any sea fish and fish stock. Cover and cook for 5 minutes. Now remove cover and reduce to a semi dry consistency. Add coconut milk and let simmer for 2 minutes taking care not to let the milk come to a boil. Temper with coconut oil; ginger juliennes, chopped garlic, curry leave and chopped shallots. You can serve hot with aapam, which is a type of pancake made with fermented rice batter and coconut milk or it can be enjoyed with rice or naan.
MALABAR LAMB CURRY Ingredients 1 kg Lamb 2 Ð tbsp Coriander powder 1 tsp Chilli Powder 2 tbsp Curry powder 1 tsp turmeric powder 4/5 Green Chilli (or to taste) 3 x tbsp Coconut Oil 1 large Onion

Method Grind grated coconut with the rest of the ingredients to form a smooth paste. Keep it aside. In a pan or amanchatti (clay pot) cook prawns with turmeric powder, salt to taste and about 1 cup of water. When it is half done, add drumstick pieces and cook till it is done. Now add the coconut paste, kudampuli, tomato, green chilli, water and salt to taste. Bring it to a boil and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes. Switch off the stove. Heat oil in another pan and add mustard seeds. Let it splutter. Now add fenugreek seeds and fry for a few seconds. Add red chillies, curry leaves and shallots, fry till shallots turn golden brown. Pour this over the curry and serve.

BBC takes on an X-Factor style method for Eurovision Song Contest
Its obvious to say us Brits haven’t had much luck when it comes to the Eurovision song contest. However, that could all change this year. The BBC is reinstating the UK national final for the Eurovision entry but with an X-Factorstyle twist. Acts will be asked to submit an original track, then an industry panel will whittle the entrants down so the British public can choose who they want to represent the UK. Host Graham Norton thinks the new search for a song is a great idea. He said: “I think it really shows
that they take the competition seriously and the fact that the public will get the final say on who is sent to represent the UK in Stockholm next year is the icing on the cake!” Hopefully, the new series will have the UK scoring towards the top half of the Eurovision scoreboard. It has been twenty years since Katrina and the Waves won it. We can only wait and see.
Jim Carey’s girlfriend commits suicide Cathriona White, the on-off girlfriend of Jim Carrey, has been found dead after a suspected suicide at a property in LA. Two friends reportedly found the 28-year-old photographer and model unresponsive this week. The police are thought to have
discovered pills next to her body. She last tweeted on 25 September, saying she was “signing off” and hoped she had been “a light to my nearest and dearest”. The two reportedly met in 2012 and have dated on and off. “She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled,” the 53-year-old actor said in a statement. “My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”
Is Sonu Sood working with Jackie Chan? According to sources in Dubai, Sonu Sood is currently shooting for Jackie Chan’s next big Hollywood film Kung Fu Yoga. This out-and-out action film directed by Stanley Tong has Sonu, not just playing a role, but he plays parallel lead and will be shooting with Chan from start to finish. The film is being shot in Dubai currently and will then move to Beijing and also India. This is expected to be Jackie Chan’s most expensive action films. Sonu last appeared in the movie Happy New Year, so fans are eagerly awaiting his return.
Kangana Ranaut- actress turned designer Bollywood’s Kangana Ranaut is all set to make her debut as a designer. The actress has worked closely with the brand to design the couture-like VERO MODA MARQUEE AW’15 collection. Have you faced any challenges? Of course. I think my biggest challenge was literally stating the obvious, being an Asian Female in the industry. There are a lot of stereotypes out there, one being that a degree in Media is far less superior to that of a law degree or a pharmacy degree. We all have our own paths in life and it doesn’t make us any higher or lower than the other. Being an Asian female within this industry has always been a little difficult. So as far as jobs and careers go, I believe everybody’s profession has a journey and if you want to break barriers, you can, nobody can stop you!

female DJ / rising star of BBC Asian Network to find out more. Tell us a bit about your journey? My journey started as a child. I was always either dancing, singing, or in front of the camera. Anywhere where there
was music, there was me. I think I always had it in me, but it took me a while to discover that’s what I was born to do. During my University years, I was surrounded by so many friends that were DJs or on the music scene and it made me want to know more

My mum would watch her interviews with people like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and I used to say to my mum, one day I’m going to be sat in that seat. DJ Kayper is someone I also aspire to be like. the only Asian female dominating the DJ scene for the girls out there and it’s so exciting to see. I hope one day I can make a name for myself just like she has. What genre of music do you like? Anything and everything! I think that’s what most people get shocked by when they get to know me. Most tend to relate me with the Asian scene because of my radio shows but in reality I’m far from it. I’ve grown up listening to RnB and Hip Hop. That was my first love for music. I love Garage, House, Dance, Reggae you name it! I am so diverse when it comes to music, which probably reflects in some of the mixtapes I’ve put out. You have regular slots on Fever FM and All Star FM, how has that been?

I can’t put into words how much it means to me. I have had this dream since I was young. I used to tell people all the time, watch me – one day I’m going to be on that mic, I’m going to be on that station, I’ll be running my own show. And here it is! How did it all happen?
My radio shows have made me into the person I am today. Radio is my life. I started off at Fever FM during my work experience, which led to a permanent slot. Over the years I’ve gained more and more skills and

The day the announcement was made I was in Morocco and I had the worst Wi-Fi connection ever. When I was told it was a feeling I can’t describe. How are you preparing for your show? Right now I’m still trying to take it in to be honest. It’s just something I can’t believe is actually happening. I have so many ideas I want to put across, but obviously I can’t tell you too much right now. You’ll have to make sure you tune in every Sunday to hear what it’s all about! What are you looking forward to? Everything. I can’t wait to sit in that studio and do what I believe I do best! It’s the start of a new beginning. What can people expect? Lot’s of banter and great music. It’s what I’m all about. I don’t want to change for anything or

anyone; it’s just going to be me. What you hear is what you get! Why do you think that there are so little Asians in the mainstream media? I believe we lack Asians within mainstream in particular Asian females because they’re too scared to come forward. They’re too worried about the lack of support they are going to have. Build up the courage to show the world anything is possible. Just because you’re a girl does not mean you can’t be successful. We need more Asians to prove people wrong! We’re not just Doctors and Lawyers! We can be creative too. What advice would you give to people? I’ve seen a lot in life and I’ve also seen people being forced to do things they don’t want to do. No dream is too big. And always, always, ALWAYS be you. Remain original. And never let anybody put you down. Just like my dad once told me, “You just do your part and never burn bridges, they will need you someday”.

Aishwarya made her acting debut in Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film ‘Iruvar (1997). The film was a critical success and won many awards. Following on from that, Aishwarya also appeared in her first Hindi film release in ‘Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya’ that same year. Both films broke from the simplistic structure typical of Bollywood films at the time and helped to push Rai to

The movie became the highest-grossing film of the year in India and overseas. Devdas won numerous awards, including 10 Filmfare Awards, and Ash playing the love interest of the protagonist won her second Filmfare award. She followed with a critically acclaimed performance in Chokher Bali (2003). That same year she became the first Indian actress to serve as a jury member at Cannes. The Bollywood actress was not just bound to Indian films. In 2004, she appeared alongside Martin Henderson in ‘Bride and Prejudice’. Her next overseas release was Paul Mayeda Berges’s ‘The Mistress of Spices’ in 2005. Next, she appeared in ‘The Last Legion’, which at the time appeared to be a critical failure. She then went on to star in ‘The Pink Panther 2’.
She returned to Bollywood for the blockbuster Dhoom: 2 (2006) before releasing the English film Provoked: A True Story (2006). We last saw her in the 2010 Guzaarish, where Ash co-starred with Hrithik Roshan and received praise for performing a nurse in the drama. Personal Life In April 2007 Ash married Abhishek Bachchan, her frequent co-star and the son of Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan in a union that joined two of the most powerful names in the Indian entertainment industry. Brushing your hair when wet can cause breakage if you’re not careful. Make sure to detangle strands with a wide-tooth comb. When removing tangles gently brush hair from bottom to the top, in order not to create any static or frizz which can cause breakage. Avoid the heat when possible Over-styling with curling irons and straighteners is the main cause of split ends. Apply a leave-in conditioner to protect your hair from the heat. When it comes to blow-drying, try to aim the nozzle at the roots and the mid-shaft because the tips of hair burn more easily. If you are not in a rush just simply let your hair airdry.

Disguise with oil Frizz makes breakage look more noticeable. Hair oils applied throughout strands or even just at the ends smooth out breaks and create a more even-looking finish. Apply argan oil from the mid shaft to the ends, because that’s where most breakage, and spit ends occur.

William Wordsworth (7 April 1770 – 23 April 1850) was a major English Romantic poet who, with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, helped to launch the Romantic Age in English literature with their joint publication Lyrical Ballads. "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" (also commonly known as "Daffodils") is a lyric poem by William Wordsworth. It is Wordsworth's most famous work.The poem was inspired by an event on 15 April 1802, in which Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy came across a "long belt" of daffodils. Written some time between 1804 and 1807 (in 1804 by Wordsworth's own account), it was first published in 1807 in Poems in Two Volumes, and a revised version was published in 1815.
