OVERVIEW
An awe-inspiring land packed with ancient culture, spectacular natural beauty and hugely diverse cities, China is a traveller’s dream.
The world’s oldest continuous civilisation possesses amazing landscapes and unique man-made attractions, such as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City and the Terracotta Army. With a land mass of 9.6 million sq-km, it is the planet’s fourth-largest country and it has the second largest population of 1.4 billion citizens.
Big in size and big in experiences, the contrasts are immense; visitors can explore the elevated terrain of the Tibetan Plateau, ‘known as the roof of the world’ and the far north-west’s low-lying vast deserts. The southwestern region has huge limestone settings, including the Stone Forest near Kunming, Guangxi’s incredibly beautiful karst landscape and Tiger Leaping Gorge. Further south lies the tropical resort island of Hainan. Many of Asia’s greatest rivers also originate here, among these are the Mekong and the Yangzi, providing immense waterbased exploration activities. The ‘Middle Kingdom’ has it all!
