Hello everyone, this is Frank from HTA. This video is part of A to Z of landing pages. Today we are going to cover what is the domain name and its connection to a URL. We will also cover how to have keyword rich domain name. OK? So let us jump right to this. Folks domain name. What is a domain name? Domain names are used to identify one or more IP addresses. For example, the domain name microsoft.com represents about a dozen IP addresses. Domain names are used in URLs to identify particular Web pages. For example, in the URLhttp://www.pcwebopedia.com/index.html, the domain name ispcwebopedia.com. Every domain name has a suffix that indicates which top level domain (TLD) it belongs to. There are only a limited number of such domains. For example: •gov - Government agencies •edu - Educational institutions •org - Organizations (nonprofit) •mil - Military •com - commercial business •net - Network organizations •ca - Canada •th - Thailand Because the Internet is based on IP addresses, not domain names, every Web server requires a Domain Name System (DNS) server to translate domain names into IP addresses. Branded Domains Your brand is very important to you and is the cornerstone of everything you do as a business. It is seen on your website, stationery, business cards, invoices, etc. You’re working hard to establish your brand. So why wouldn’t you use that for your domain name as well? There are some good reasons why you should: •It is easy to remember •It is short •It keeps your brand in front of the customer •It looks more professional •It further establishes your brand and maintains consistency. It is a fairly safe bet to go with your name or business name for your domain. There are many successful examples of this such as Twitter, Facebook and Google. There are, however, circumstances when having a keyword rich domain can help.
Everyone that enters into Internet world basically have to have an address. For people to find you, people to know where you are. And just like google.com, yahoo.com these ere domain names. So when your get yours domain dot com that is your domain name. So instead of having a bunch of numbers like goggles IP where I am. Googles IP appears 216.239.51.99 the first unit is a lot easier to remember Google dot com. So that is what it is. A domain. Your domain dot com. So now you have your domain name, you need to have hosting. OK? What is a hosting? A service provider that offers shared hosting or dedicated hostingof a service or services to customers. Hosting services are most often used for hosting Web sites but can also be used for hosting files, images, games and similar content. In the case of Web site hosting services, there are three main types of hosting available: 1) Shared Web hosting, where a large number of Web sites are typically housed on the same server; 2) Dedicated Web hosting, where an entire server is leased and reserved for a single Web site; and 3) Virtual Private Server hosting, a hybrid of the first two options in which a Web site is hosted on its own virtual server so that it won't be affected by the Web sites of other customers. See All About Web Site Hosting in the Did You Know...? section of Webopedia.
We will cover hosting in the separate video. Hosting is how I like it to say It refers to house. So people actually can have your address but if you do not have a house people do not recognise where it is? So you need to have your housing or hosting so you can start storing pages, you can start storing what you want people to see in your domain in your love area. All right? So we will cover that in the another video. So. But what is the URL? A uniform resource locator, abbreviated as URL (also known as web address, particularly when used with HTTP), is a specificcharacter string that constitutes a reference to a resource. In most web browsers, the URL of a web page is displayed on top inside anaddress bar. An example of a typical URL would be "http://en.example.org/wiki/Main_Page". A URL is technically a type of uniform resource identifier (URI), but in many technical documents and verbal discussions, URL is often used as a synonym for URI, and this is not considered a problem.[1] URLs are commonly used for web pages (http), but can also be used for file transfer (ftp), email (mailto) and many other applications (see URI scheme for list).
Basically a URL when you up-grown your house and it will become a big apartment building that has different locations. You have different rooms. You have this room where you have your landing pages and you want to separate this from another room. So basically a URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. So your resource for example stands on the first floor and room 3B so you give them a URL http://yourdomain.com/3floor/room3B.html so that is a URL. All right? Let us jump up into a next topic which is The keyword rich domain searching. What is a Keyword Rich Domain Searching? Keyword Rich Domains If you are a marketer and are trying to attract attention for a very specific keyword or phrase, purchasing a domain with that keyword or phrase to use for your landing page can be very effective. Once they have arrived at your landing page you can then direct them to your main site as the keyword rich domain has done its job. If you use the keyword in your business name, such as mine Maple Moon Web Design Inc, you can have the keyword and your brand in the domain, so it’s both a keyword rich domain and a branded one – the best of both worlds! If you are actually marketing a product rather than a brand, i.e. the product you sell already has a brand, such as an MLM company. Search engines have in the past placed some emphasis on keyword rich domains so from that point of view it may improve your rankings but take a look at the video below form Google’s Matt Cutts, where he explains that Google may be moving away from that emphasis. Matt emphasizes that Google is ready to experiment mixing up the old and new signals in their algorithm and see its impact on the evaluation of a website, having received criticism for the unfair bias keyword rich domains have received previously.
I usually use a resource here called www.WebConFS.com . OK?
This resources basically it helps and suggest a rich keyword domain names. Rich keywords domain names helps a lot of an it is an important factor of search engine optimisation. For example I would like to “have on-line traffic in the domain that I would like to buy. OK? Let us insert this one. So that we can do a search. All right? Submit. Now on the next page where usually show me a bunch of URLs or what do I mean a bunch domain names.
There are available or not available. Here is the list of all the domain names with the words I chosen. That is keyword So that is the list and there are the key words and the results of people they are looking for this domain name all right? And the status of the domain as you can see the most of them are not available any more.
Well this is why this takes a lot of creativity and imagination to come up with very good domain names because one word, two word or even three words top domains are not available. So what I do? I usually just take for example like this: IncreaseOnlineTraffic.com I like the sound this three words together. So what I do is I will pay around wit it. I will go to www.GoDaddy.com I use Godady.com for search for that domains are avalaible or not. So I will do with that word I will do play around it. For example I put Traffic in the beginning instead.
So I would like to see if TrafficIncreaseOnline.com is available. Right? Is that even make senseTrafficIncreaseOnline.com? Let us see if it is available? All right as you can see TrafficIncreaseOnline.com is available just for $11.99 OK?
So again if something is not available then play around with it. Go back again and try That is already taken. What about this one? There we go onlinetrafficincrease.com is also available. You see what I just mean. You have just creatively moving those words around and that will help you. OK? All right. So before you go any further quick wake up, pit stop. If you are follow in along the first thing you have to do is come up with the cool domain name. So go on those two websites mentioned in this video and brainstorm yourselves and find a cool domain name for wherever you gonna it to use to promote. The only thing I would like to tell you is you are promoting How to earn money on-line: product, services or business opportunity an e-book or whatever. Right. If you promoting a niche which is talking about how to make money on-line, your domain has to gonna match that you are gonna promoting. Is that make sense for you. I know it is just basic staff. It is a common sense staff. It is very elementary staff. But I have seen so many people for examples promoting how to make many on-line products and they have a domain name which they bought from some MLM company like five years ago and it was talking about how to lose weight. So get yourselves a cool domain name.
