GREETINGS «The National Centre of Audiovisual Media and Communication -EKOME, is committed to its mission of promoting Greece as a top global audiovisual destination, providing continuous support to its industry professionals. Through its activities and programs, EKOME has created an ideal ecosystem for Greece to stand out as one of the most attractive world locations for the production of audiovisual works. The year 2020 was a milestone in our effort to strengthen and promote audiovisual productions in Greece. Through the impressive results of our incentives program, namely, the 40% cash rebate and 30% tax relief with the support of our National Network of Film Offices and thanks to the country’s emergence as one of the safest shooting locations in the world, Greece recently attracted a significant number of international high-budget productions of global distribution and this year we are witnessing a surge of creativity and an array of foreign productions choosing to film in our country and work with our professionals. Especially in the field of animation, our collaboration with the domestic community stems from our strategic cooperation with ASIFA HELLAS. EKOME is the main sponsor and key supporter of the Greek national delegation in the International Animation Festival of Annecy and MIFA, the world’s largest animation event, which promotes successful international synergies and marks an important territory for our local animation industry to thrive. We are happy to uphold the continuous development marked by the Greek animation community and we shall continue our support to further strengthen its work and international distinctions. Panos Kouanis President & CEO National Centre of Audiovisual Media and Communication-EKOME Dear friends, ASIFA HELLAS is the Greek Animation Association, formally established as an NGO back in 2015, in Athens. On ANNECY MIFA 2021, where Greek Animation is officially represented for a fifth consecutive year, we have developed a colorful digital pavilion which we hope you all visit, enjoy and interact with. Together with our partner Institutions, EKOME and Greek Film Centre, we prepared a FOCUS on the new production ecosystem in Greece, enabling co-productions. I would like to acknowledge the great collaboration and support to Greek Animation by the Annecy Festival and MIFA team all these years as well as the French Institute of Greece for endorsing our efforts from the beginning to date. This has led last September to the hosting of MIFA Pitches – Animation du Monde sessions for the first time in Greece at Animasyros, resulting to the selection of two projects from Cyprus & Greece to this year’s MIFA Pitches, making us truly proud and optimistic for the future of Greek Animation worldwide. Enjoy & support Greek Animation. Vassilis C. Karamitsanis President Greek Animation Association - ASIFA HELLAS In Greece animation is an art that has drawn mainly from its own resources : the imagination the persistence and the team spirit of animators. Asifa Hellas has managed to motivate them towards a common goal and connect them to the international community of animators. The initiative and action it has taken for years, have created an environment conducive to the development and blossoming of animation in Greece. The constant, well-organized presence of Asifa Hellas at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival & Market is evidence to this concerted effort, as well as to the need for greek animation to broaden its horizons. The Greek Film Centre clearly considers animation to be a genre equally important to all other film genres and therefore supports the work of Asifa Hellas. Moreover, it acknowledges the significant contribution of animators to the development of the audiovisual sector in Greece and encourages them by funding their projects in all stages of production. We hope that our efforts, along with the efforts of Asifa Hellas, will eventually bear fruit. Markos Holevas President of the Board of Directors Greek Film Centre (GFC)

ECH0 Short Film • 11min • 2D Animation Director: Sergio Ko Production: ADDART, PLEASE INSERT COIN, HOORAKHSH Studios ELLIE(30s) lives with her goldfish, Kitten. She avoids verbal communication, for at an early age she began to hear an ECHO of -what she perceives to be- the thoughts of the speaker. Scarred and reclusive, she never leaves home and survives thanks to PENNY(60’s), her landlady. PENNY lives in the next door apartment. Every month ELLIE slips the rent under her door, while PENNY leaves a container with food on ELLIE’S doorstep, everyday. Their communication is nonverbal: PENNY rings thrice to denote here presence, while ELLIE leaves her notes under the door. MANU(40’s) moves into the apartment across ELLIE’s hall, his presence intrigues her. Their everyday lives and habits are parallel. MANU’s lifestyle ignites a change in ELLIE; she starts cooking, cleaning her house and taking care of herself. She still gives shopping lists to PENNY, but she stops eating her pre-made meals. Day by day, their routines echo each other. Suddenly one day PENNY doesn’t show. ELLIE is waiting for the groceries and the fish food has run out. A whole day passes with ELLIE fixed on the door’s peephole, when she sees two paramedics carrying PENNY out of her apartment. She can’t help getting out. She grabs the fishbowl like a child/ security blanket. Struggling to avoid the crowd, she bumps on MANU and falls on the ground. Startled, she expects to hear the ECHO of his words. For the first time she doesn’t hear a thing. MANU signs and ELLIE hears only what he means to say. One year later they live together and ELLIE is recounting the tale. hi@addart.gr / sergio@pleaseinsertcoin.com

HELLENIC PLACES: HERMOUPOLIS Short Film • 11min • 2D Animation Director: Charalambos Margaritis Production: ANIMASYROS A glance at the past and present of Hermoupolis, the Capital of Syros island in Greece, through an animated documentary. The story highlights all significant events that lead to the establishment of Hermoupolis in the midst of the Greek Revolution in the 19th century, by “wounded” refugees from the islands of Chios, Kasos, Psara and Crete and other places, who relocated at the island of Syros to seek refuge from the Ottoman Empire atrocities. The film eloquently narrates the construction of Hermoupolis through its most characteristic landmarks as well as the social and economic development of the city during the 20th century until today. The birth, development and growth of Hermoupolis, as shown in the documentary is inevitably associated with the history of the contemporary Greek State. director@animasyros.gr

IN BETWEEN Short Film • 6min • Stop Motion - Puppets Director: Effie Pappa Production: MARNI FILMS Vicky doesn’t have time to eat her breakfast, little Andreas can’t cross the street due to heavy traffic, a banker in urgent need to go to the toilet can’t find the right time. Time suddenly freezes and like mannequin challenge everything stops. Apart of them.. effiepappa@gmail.com / mina@marnifilms.gr

THE PROJECT Short Film • 3D Animation Director - Producer: Giorgos Farazis In the near future, the Company of Representational Holograms (CRH) uses the environment of the city to reproduce experiences encoded through old narratives, recordings, texts - and a series of old supposedly forbidden means such as books, audiovisual material etc. broadcasting them as whispers or as images in promotional holograms to relieve plebeians from the suffocating deadends of everyday life. The protagonist X, a sex worker, with the help of her dog companion and his addictive consumption of memories, discovers traces of the memory of the city that have been lost or silenced. This small quest conflicts/contrasts with the dominant cruel and impersonal character of the future city which stems from an attempt by the regimes over the centuries to eliminate parts of its history and leave them in the dark. The connections of the old world, as narrated by the forbidden holograms with the modern world of the heroine, show that there is a recurring pattern in the times that run through the dark life of the city. Immersion in the historical paths of a building complex that left a permanent mark on the memory of the city, will also accompany the troubled consciousness of the heroine. farazisgiorgos@gmail.com

THE SONG OF THE FATES Short Film • 7min • 2D Animation Director: Aristarchos Papadaniel Production: Syllipsis The animated short The Song of the Fates by Aristarchos Papadaniel is based on the ancient Greek myth of the Three Fates who determine in an unavoidable way the destiny of Man. An audiovisual reflection on Man’s attempt to transcend the limits of his mortal nature, touching the divine. The film is funded by the Special Program for the Support of the Cinema Community (Animation) of the Greek Ministry of Culture and is implemented in collaboration with the Greek Film Centre (WIP 2021). info@syllipsis.com.gr
