House of the Future must be a resolution of these
ideas. The Secret Box is a cubical mass of these in
a miniature architectural framework. Domesticity
made for a less consumptive future. The future of
the house is an exercise in compaction and
simplification. It attempts first to compress the
home into a cubical mass 50' x 50' x 40', so
occupying only a 2500 sq. ft. footprint. Second, the
compression creates a more connected
overlapping family life internally. Room,
Courtyard and garden integrated into family space.
Bedrooms retreat in relative privacy to the rear
and a service core is attached at all levels. Third is
climate relief. The Secret Box is a container of
urban life so private that it is a shield against
excessive heat, sun, prying eyes, noise and
pollution. Thick walls with rare windows turn
a blind eye to the street — and making its own
secret life within
