Africa Twin reaches new heights In 2017, the Africa Twin broke the record for the highest altitude reached by a twin-cylinder motorcycle. After 5 days of acclimatisation, a team of 5 five riders piloted the Africa Twin onto the slopes of the world’s highest active volcano, the Nevado Ojos del Salado – located between Argentina and Chile. Reaching 5,965 metres above sea level, the international team completed its ascent within 24 hours with Africa Twin specially equipped with Termignoni exhaust, revised final sprockets, new Metzeler MC360TM tyres and a range of Honda genuine accessories, Their route took them – in temperatures as low as minus 5 degrees Celsius – through broken asphalt, gravel, mud, sand and finally stretches of ice pockets known as ‘penitentes’, underlining once again the Africa Twin’s credentials as the best-performing offroad motorcycle in its class. 06

Fitted with the one-key Honda system, this top box can be operated using the Africa twin ignition key. The stainless piping of the Front Side Pipe has been finished with electrolytic polishing, making it resistant to corrosion and allowing dirt and debris to be easily cleaned. This Grip Heaters are operated using the handlebar switch. There are five heat leavels to chose from which are displayed through the TFT display. By being of the same thickness as the standard grip, they don't affect the motorcycle handling. They also include a memory function and battery drainage prevention.

Installed on the control panel, this 12V Socket is ideal to power or charge electrical equipment.

The Engine Guard protects the engine frame in case of fall or collision, while providing an enhanced adventure appearance to the motorcycle. Made of steel and finished in Mat Beta Silver Metallic colour. This accessory is required to fit the Skid Plate onto the motorcycle. This kit includes: • Engine Guard • Guard Attachment

The steel side pipes reduce damage to the motorcycle fairings and other parts in case of fall, while providing an enhanced adventure look. The Guard Attachment (08P74-MLC-D00) is required to install it.

The skid plate consists of a 2.5 mm thick aluminum plate with excellent strength and corrosion resistance. It is designed to protect the motorcycle parts located around and below the engine like the oil filter or the exhaust pipes, and shaped to fit perfectly with the engine guard for a more compact and resistant appearance. To install the Skid Plate, Engine Guard and Engine Guard ATT are required.

The Dream CB750 FOUR, which hit the market in July 1969

After 5 consecutive titles in the World Grand Prix Road Racing Series, Honda decided to withdraw and turn toward its primary target: transfer the technology obtained in competition to develop high-performance consumer machines. After a first attempt with a 450cc, Honda released the CB750 Four in January 1969. The initial production forecast of 1,500 units a year became soon a monthly figure and then jumped to 3,000 units/month. By pushing the boundaries of performance, reliability and easy handling in motorcycles, Honda created a new class of Superbikes. The CB1000R is the modern expression of the same spirit that guides Honda engineers since decades. 83

Where are these beautiful curves coming from? One of the most distinctive attributes of the CB650R is its swooping four-into-one exhaust system. This beautiful design is a tribute to another iconic Honda: the CB400F also known as the CB 400 Four. Produced between 1975 and 1977, the CB 400 Four caused quite a stir thanks to its café racer look. Delivering only 37 bhp (28 kW) at 8,500 rpm and 24 lb·ft (33 N·m) at 7,500 rpm, its four-in-line engine was not meant to take the racetracks by storm. Yet, back in the late 70’, some versions upgraded to 492cc were capable of 13,500 rpm and producing an estimated 60 bhp (45 kW). 90

The CBR900RR Fireblade that started all.

Aiming to create a high-performance motorcycle that could defeat its own RVF750 in Endurance Road Races, Honda developed an R&D project that led directly to the CBR900RR in 1992. With 128 HP, it was not the most powerful of its time. However, thanks to a dry weight of 185 kg when all rivals were well over 200 kg, the first Fireblade, soon nicknamed “Blade” by the fans, was so easy to control that it seemed to read its rider’s mind. What does HSTC means?

The CBR650R in action.

Since 1992 with the ST1100 aka “Pan European” model, Honda equips more and more of its motorcycles with a system called Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC). This system monitors constantly the speeds of the front and rear wheels via speed sensors incorporated into the Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS). When the rear wheel begins to rotate significantly faster than the front, the system reduces fuel delivery to the engine and limits rear-wheel slippage. In 2019 with the new CBR650R, Honda applied this technology for the first time to its mid-displacement SuperSport motorcycle. The rider can deactivate it on demand.

The CBR500R Cup.

It’s not rare to find some CB500 proudly boasting more than 300,000 kms (more than 186,000 miles), but the long-time favourite of the couriers and the driving school is much more than a workhorse. Beginning in France in 1996, the CB500 Cup spread across Europe quickly. Since 2014, it is on a CBR500R that young talents try to make a name by themselves, on a budget.
