ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
The elementary school is set in Blacksurg, Va. My proposal is based heavily on safety of the students. Therefore, you will see the open floor plans encourage movement of the students, but always have spaces of authority nearby in the case of emergencies. To make this philosphy evident, I have employed the use of Neighborhoods to divide seperate grades across the two stories.
Important aspects I considered: 1) Neighborhoods: Each neighborhood consists of 3 grade levels. These span across two floors. 2) Shared Makerspaces: There is one shared makerspace per Neighborhood, and a mixed shared maker space easily acessible to all grade levels.
3) Counselor Islands: Each Neighborhood has one counsel-
or island. A counselor is assigned to keep an eye out on the students and remain in close proximity to students who need special attention.
