drop dead gorgeous devised theatre ď˝œ 2019-2020 drop dead gorgeous is a devised theatre piece which explores the expectations of female bodies in public space.

Having met as part of the Goldsmiths MA Performance Making programme, Same Same Collective was driven to create a show which highlighted and undermined aesthetics of attractiveness, respectability, containment and amenability.

All of which combine to deny women something very basic: the satisfaction of our appetites.

It is an immersive experience that asks the audience to assemble a room together “manually”. By using their imagination and creativity, the audience has to becomes all kinds of human furniture.

The idea of this performance comes from the word “family” in Mandarin. In Mandarin, the word “family” is a combination of the two words: “house” and “people”. In this performance, every participant becomes a part of a “family” is similar to being in a multicultural city which is the home for many people. We are not originated from the same country nor the same culture but we are all now in the same community.

It is Taiwanese script written by Wu Zheng Han（ 吳 政 翰 ）which is based on the metamorphosis written by Franz Kafka. I wanted to explore what the essence of privilege is through this script. I had thoughts on the inequality between person and the society; I wandered how could this happened since the government and the society are all constituted by ordinary person.
