FISHER MUSEUM THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO INCORPORATE ELEMENTS FROM OUR PRECEDENTS THAT WE HAD STUDIES FOR SEVERAL WEEKS INTO A DESIGN FOR THE FISHER MUSEUM AND COURTYARD ON THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA’S CAMPUS. THE CAIXAFORUM IN MADRID, SPAIN INSPIRED ME TO EXPLORE ONE CENTRAL CIRCULATION POINT, AND HOW A COMPLEX GEOMETRICAL CIELING CAN AFFECTLY IMPACT THE AUDIENCES EXPERIENCE INSIDE THE GALLERY AND OUTSIDE IN THE COURTYARD.

A - FRAME RON BETTS, MY PROFESSOR AT LANEY COLLEGE, GAVE AN ASSIGNMENT TO DRAFT OUT FIRST RESIDENTIAL SITE. THE FIRST THING THAT POPPED INTO MIND WAS AN A-FRAME. I ENJOYED THIS PROJECT BECAUSE I ASSOCIATE CABINS WITH RELAXATION AND COMFORT. IT REMINDS ME OF MY SUMMER TRIPS TO COLORADO WITH THE FAMILY.

GORMAN RESIDENCE I CREATED A DESIGN AT THE ILLUSTRIOUS GORMAN RESIDENCE FOR MY FINAL PROJECT IN LANDSCAPE DESIGN. AFTER THOROUGH ANALYSIS OF THE SITE, I DETERMINED THAT A CURVILINEAR DESIGN WOULD BEST SUIT THE THREE-ACRE PROPERTY. I INCORPORATED UNIQUE IDEAS TO SEVERAL AREAS THE GORMANS REQUESTED: A KIDNEY BEAN SHAPED KITCHEN-GARDEN, A ROCK GARDEN IN THE FRONT YARD, AN AMPHITHEATRE WITH A FIREPLACE, A TABLE TO HOST DINNER PARTIES FOR THEIR FAMILY, OUTDOOR KITCHEN SPACE, A PLAY AREA FOR THEIR GRANDCHILDREN, A TOOL SHED, AND A CIRCULAR DRIVEWAY. I PRESENTED THIS TO THE GORMANS AND THEY DECIDED TO USE PORTIONS OF IT FOR THEIR HOME. THIS PROJECT OFFERED FACE-TO-FACE EXPERIENCE WITH CLIENTS AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE HOW IMPACTFUL LANDSCAPE DESIGN CAN BE WITH RESPECT TO RESIDENTIAL ARCHITECTURE, AND ARCHITECTURE GENERALLY.

RAINGARDEN DESIGNING A RAINGARDEN IS NO EASY TASK, ESPECIALLY IN THE HARSH CONDITIONS OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS. WITH THE HUMIDITY OF EAST TEXAS AND ALKALINE, SANDY/CLAY SOILS IT IS DIFFICULT TO ACHIEVE ANY LANDSCAPE DESIGN THAT WILL RETAIN WATER. OUR CLIENT, DAVID BROWN, A PLANNER AT TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY, CHALLANGED OUR CLASS TO DESIGN A LOW MAINTENANCE RAINGARDEN. THIS DESIGN ACCOMPLISHES A LOW MAINTENANCE AND COST EFFECTIVE SOLUTION THAT CAN WITHSTAND THE HARSH ENVIRONMENTS IN COLLEGE STATION.

PAVILION GRASSHOPPER, AN ALGORITHMIC MODELING PROGRAM THAT FUNCTIONS WITH RHINOCEROS 3D, ALLOWS YOU TO DEVELOP INTRICATE AND ELABORATE DESIGNS WITH MULTIDIMENSIONAL PANELS AND SURFACES. THE COMPLEXITY OF THE STRUCTURE DEPENDS ON THE PAVILION WE CHOSE, HOW WE WISHED TO INTERPRET THEM, AND HOW SKILLFUL WE WERE IN GRASSHOPPER. MY RECONSTRUCTION OF THE THOMAS HEATHERWICK PAVILION (1993) SURFACE WAS DONE THROUGH TRIAL AND ERROR, AND THE USE OF MULTIPLE BATTERY CONNECTIONS IN GRASSHOPPER. THROUGH THAT PROCESS I BECAME MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE WITH RESPECT TO THE PARAMETER MODELING PROCESS AND REALIZED THE LIMITLESS POSSIBILITIES IN GRASSHOPPER.

THANK YOU
