ABOUT THE EVENT

This year, the Mudcat Festival is in its 49th year, held the second weekend of June, the festival celebrates one of the Grand River’s most well-known inhabitants (the Mudcat) and attracts thousands of visitors each year.

A parade, kids fishing derby, car show, live music, midway rides and fireworks are just a few of the weekend’s activities: voted by Festival Ontario as one of the top 100 festivals to attend, this event is definitely one to mark on the calendar!

KIDS FISHING DERBY

The Dunnville Fishing Derby is an annual event hosted by the Dunnville Chamber of Commerce, dedicated to providing kids and families with a fun, community-focused fishing experience, promoting outdoor activity, and fostering environmental stewardship.

Reel in the fun with the Annual Dunnville Fishing Derby! Held every year on Sunday, this exciting community event invites kids and families to enjoy a day of fishing from the shore at Wingfield Park. Designed for young anglers aged 3-17, the derby is a family-friendly competition where participants can cast their lines in hopes of catching the longest and heaviest fish of the day. With over 100 kids signing up last year, this event has become a much-anticipated tradition in Dunnville.

Participants will fish from shore, release their catches, and enjoy a fun-filled day surrounded by nature. The event includes three age categories (3-7, 8-12, and 13-17), offering every child a fair chance to compete and win prizes. Families are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear, including a bucket, rod, bait, and chair, to settle in for a memorable day by the water.

The Dunnville Chamber of Commerce is excited to welcome Michelle Avery as the Fishing Derby Ambassador again for this year’s Fishing Derby. With her passion for the fishing industry and Dunnville community events along with her keen organizational skills, Michelle brings a wealth of experience to the role.

Her leadership, supported by the Chamber’s board members, event director, president, and marketing director, ensures that the Fishing Derby will continue to be a highlight of the community’s annual calendar. Together, the team is working to create a seamless and fun-filled event that will engage families and young anglers from across the region.
